Lhurgoyfs in Modern Horizons III

New 08 Jun 2024 Asked by thetitan555 21 Comments

Plus, Modern Horizons III does have a green Lhurgoyf and a Green Lhurgoyf aura that makes Tarmogoyf tokens, so it’s not as if green missed out on all the Lhurgoyf goodness.
I thought those cards were in the Commander subsets, not MH3 proper?

You are correct. I was just looking at Lhurgoyfs as a whole in the database.

Nethergoyf's Color Query

New 07 Jun 2024 Asked by michel475193362 50 Comments

Why is "Nethergoyf" black? "Tarmogoyf" is one of the few iconic green creatures that has supported green for many years, and its successor should have been in green. I don't think it should have been given to black just because it is also possible in black.

Before Modern Horizons III, there were four green Lhurgoyfs and two black ones (plus two red ones, a white one, and a blue one). Green didn’t have the monopoly on Lhurgoyfs. Plus, Modern Horizons III does have a green Lhurgoyf and a Green Lhurgoyf aura that makes Tarmogoyf tokens, so it’s not as if green missed out on all the Lhurgoyf goodness.

Challenge in Creating Lhurgoyf Commander

New 06 Jun 2024 Asked by tameryourentertainer 18 Comments

I personally enjoy Disa though I am curious, was there anything in the way of making a Lhurgoyf commander that was actually a goyf themself or did you just prefer to have a lore connection?

My guess was the flavor was odd.

Erik and Lhurgoyf Story Issue

What story issues would be created if Erik was cast as the commander of the llhurgoyf commander deck?

What would be the problem of Erik having Lhurgoyfs if they’re what killed his children?

I wish the lhurggoyf commander had been Erik himself :))

That would set up some weird backstory issues. : )

I learned Lhurgoyf many years ago. The cook, I still can’t say.

Is there any chance some older creature types (specifically Atogs, Lhurgoyfs, and Cephalids) will show up again?

There is always a chance.

Popularity of Lhurgoyfs

New 25 May 2023 Asked by dazedanarchist1312 24 Comments

How popular are Lhurgoyfs? I love them as a kid and I love them now. I'd love to see more.

Players generally like creatures that (mostly) keep getting bigger over time.

Alternative Crew Requirements

New 19 Mar 2023 Asked by mania42 32 Comments

Hello Mark, I don't know if that question was asked before. but what about Vehicles that ask for something ELSE than tapping creatures to crew them? For exemple: sacrifice a creature, sacrifice a food, sacrifice 3 treasures or exile cards from your graveyard as a condition. Personnally, I believe vehicles like weatherlight compleated and dermotaxi to be flavor wins. Also, for when the Tarmo-mobile? (Tribal Lhurgoyf Vehicle)

We do make those from time to time, and we’ll keep making more.

The original Lhurgoyf, as it’s a classic.

Ghostfire vs Lhurgoyf

New 04 Oct 2022 Asked by what-i-cant-hear-you 34 Comments

Enjoying your appearance on TapTapConcede. But would you agree that Ghostfire's flavor text inspired even more cards than Lhurgoyf's?

Ghostfire’s flavor text inspired a lot of story, and we made cards out of that story, so that’s probably correct. Lhurgoyf’s flavor text inspired more direct card designs from it, at least by me.

Hans's Encounters Unclear

New 31 Jul 2022 Asked by mrpopogod 38 Comments

Was there ever an in-universe explanation for how Hans managed to run into the Lhurgoyf in Ice Age and the Revenant in Stronghold (given the latter is set on Rath)?

There was not.

Origins of Saffi Eriksdotter

Unique Creatures Production Frequency

New 12 Oct 2021 Asked by koriko99 71 Comments

"1) There are also a bunch lower down on the scale. We have a lot of unique things to Magic.2) A bunch you have listed aren’t unique to Magic (like noggle or ouphe)." Which unique creatures are lower on the scale besides Slivers? And even those are only in supplemental sets at this point. I didn't know those weren't unique to magic, but the point is still the same; you guys seem to produce the more interesting looking and less generic creatures less often.

The original Magic creature types: Aetherborn, Assembly-Worker, Atog, Azra, Beeble, Blinkmoth, Bringer, Brushwagg, Camarid, Cephalid, Eldrazi, Fractal, Graveborn, Homarid, Inkling, Kavu, Kithkin, Kor, Lhurgoyf, Licid, Masticore, Metathran, Myr, Nightstalker, Orgg, Pentavite, Pest, Phelddagrif, Phyrexian, Praetor, Rigger, Saproling, Slith, Sliver, Soltari, Spellshaper, Spike, Surrakar, Tetravite, Thalakos, Triskelavite, Vedalken, Viashino, Volver, and Zubera.A bunch of those have appeared on new cards in the last five years.

High Beeble Scale Creature Types

New 11 Oct 2021 Asked by koriko99 53 Comments

Why are so many creature types that are unique to magic high on the beeble scale? Spike (7), Slith (7), Beeble (10), Atog (7), Bringer (9), Brushwagg (8), Homarid (8), Lhurgoyf (7), Licid (9 1/2), Monger (9), Nephilim (8), Noggle (8), Ouphe (9), Phelddagrif (9 1/2). These original creatures were a huge reason I fell in love with earlier magic and I feel like you guys have basically abandoned most of them in favor of more generic creatures.

Two things:1) There are also a bunch lower down on the scale. We have a lot of unique things to Magic. 2) A bunch you have listed aren’t unique to Magic (like noggle or ouphe).

Lhurgoyfs Flavor Text Influence

New 18 Sep 2021 Asked by myfavoriteflavorisblue 62 Comments

Did Lhurgoyfs flavor text really inspire more cards than the one that inspired all the Ugin cards? A whole character born from italics!

Ghostfire is the other contender for the honor. Ghostfire definitely inspired more story.

Favorite Flavor Text Challenge

New 18 Sep 2021 Asked by queko13 71 Comments

This isn't a question but a "challenge".Quote a flavour text you like from memory

“Ach! Hans, run! It’s the Lhurgoyf!” - last words of Saffi Eriksdotter will always have a soft spot in my heart. No flavor text has inspired more individual card designs.

Creation of Unique Creatures

New 16 Aug 2021 Asked by koriko99 37 Comments

Why doesn't magic create more original and unique creatures like Brushwaggs, Spike and Lhurgoyfs more often? I want more of that and less "shark" "camel" "beast".

Resonance is very powerful and popular. We do create a bunch of unique to Magic creatures though.
