Trivia about Vizzerdrix

New 27 Jun 2024 Asked by hexooze 2 Comments

Hi Mark!
Yesterday is my birthday. May I get trivia among one of my favorite cards - Worldfire, Wurmcoil Engine, Radiant Performer, Sundial of the Infinite, or Vizzerdrix? Or a random card from MH3 not covered by your previous Making Magic articles?

Vizzerdrix got created as a card for a product called Starter. The reason we made it is we had a series of TV commercials, one of which featured Kezzerdrix from Tempest (it involved mixing a wrestler, a chainsaw, and a bunny in a machine). A different ad in the same campaign used an Orgg. So to tie to those, we made a simpler Orgg and Vizzerdrix, as the original cards were too complicated for a beginner product.Happy Belated Birthday!

Soulgorger Orgg Classification

does soulgorger orgg count as a life gain effect that is within red's color pie?

This ability feels more black than red, but I wouldn’t classify it as life gain.

Unique Creatures Production Frequency

"1) There are also a bunch lower down on the scale. We have a lot of unique things to Magic.2) A bunch you have listed aren’t unique to Magic (like noggle or ouphe)." Which unique creatures are lower on the scale besides Slivers? And even those are only in supplemental sets at this point. I didn't know those weren't unique to magic, but the point is still the same; you guys seem to produce the more interesting looking and less generic creatures less often.

The original Magic creature types: Aetherborn, Assembly-Worker, Atog, Azra, Beeble, Blinkmoth, Bringer, Brushwagg, Camarid, Cephalid, Eldrazi, Fractal, Graveborn, Homarid, Inkling, Kavu, Kithkin, Kor, Lhurgoyf, Licid, Masticore, Metathran, Myr, Nightstalker, Orgg, Pentavite, Pest, Phelddagrif, Phyrexian, Praetor, Rigger, Saproling, Slith, Sliver, Soltari, Spellshaper, Spike, Surrakar, Tetravite, Thalakos, Triskelavite, Vedalken, Viashino, Volver, and Zubera.A bunch of those have appeared on new cards in the last five years.

Any chance of a teaser regarding the contents of Duel Decks: Bob vs Orgg?

The deck were designed so Orgg always wins. The Bob deck does come with blood counters though.

Trained Orgg and Vizzerdrix were actually printed in Starter, since the core sets at the time didn't have new cards.

FYI.

Birthday Trivia: Vizzerdrix

New 10 Sep 2015 Asked by a-wild-polinthos-appeared 30 Comments

Hey MaRo, It's finally my birthday! Can I get a some trivia on either Vizzerdrix or Conjurer's closet?

We had an ad company make a series of ads and let them base it on whatever part of Magic they wanted. One commercial featured Kezzerdrix from Tempest. The commercials were popular so we wanted to focus on the creatures from them in the next core set. Orgg, who was in the other commercial was fine but Kezzerdrix wasn’t, so we made Vizzerdrix as the replacement. Happy Birthday!

Bob's Adventure

Did bob from accounting ever make it out of the testing facility against the orgg?

I like to believe he did. In my mind, he made it out, gave up accounting and lived his life dedicated to his love of raising pigs.

The very first Orgg ended up in one if the early Magic commercials and because people liked it we went out if our way to put more Orggs in Magic. Happy Birthday!

Old Commercials Nostalgia

New 16 Apr 2013 Asked by suliscrew 9 Comments

Did you have anything to do with the old commercials like Orgg vs Bob from accounting? I loved those I even saw them on tv when they were airing. They made me want to play even more! You think you can them to do more like them?

I didn’t have anything to do with them but they are my favorite batch of commercials we’ve done. I also may have made Bob from Accounting for a certain silver bordered set that never got made.

Unglued 2 (the one that never got made, not to be confused with Unhinged) had the card Bob from Accounting.

Keywording Combat Mechanics

New 07 Jun 2012 Asked by rivercrab 0 Comments

I really like the Two-Headed ("can't be blocked except by two creature or more") and the Stalking Tiger ("can't be blocked by more than one creature") mechanics. Why haven't either of these been keyworded? They make combat more interesting without making it less interactive. BONUS TRACK: Why hasn't the Butcher Orgg ability ever been reprinted?

We don’t use them enough to keyword. By the way, just because we don’t keyword something doesn’t mean we can’t still use it.
