Looney Tunes Characters' Colors

New 27 Jul 2024 Asked by bokkiedoke 4 Comments

Would most Looney Tunes character be primary or secondary Red? Most of them are pretty impulsive and very emotional, even the more measured characters like Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian throw a fit and attack people regularly.

Certain genres lean toward a certain color like horror and black.

Possibility of Return to Chronicles

New 27 Jul 2024 Asked by godkingjinping 3 Comments

Do you anticipate a return to Chronicles?

Chronicles was a product that printed black border cards that hadn’t been printed in black border in that native language (back when first printings were black border and reprints were white border). I don’t know how to return to that.

Black's Game Dynamics

New 26 Jul 2024 Asked by krobat 3 Comments

Can Black still turn creatures into 0/2s like Sudden Spoiling or Sorceress Queen?

It’s not in black’s slice of color pie, but more bend than break.

Black Spell Control Mechanisms

New 25 Jul 2024 Asked by irlnautica 5 Comments

Would a black spell or effect that lets you take control of a permanent be an acceptable bend? I know taking control is usually blue or red, but it doesn't feel like a break because black can already cast other players' spells.

We let black mess with other people’s stuff, but more often from the graveyard or their library.

Black Angels vs White Demons

New 23 Jul 2024 Asked by dissociativehusky 7 Comments

Wizards has introduced almost 30 black angels, even though they're usually described as manifestations of white mana. I don't have a problem with this except yall have only made 5 white demons, 3 of which are from New Capenna! Any thoughts on why, and can I get a maybe on more white angels in the future?

I can promise more white Angels.

Dividing Set Themes in Drafts

New 21 Jul 2024 Asked by zackdes44 4 Comments

When/if: a single set split into two draftable packs. There is some overlap (land cycles, equipment, colorless artifacts, etc) but one pack is Team X (Bolas let's say) which is 3 different archetypes in his colors and the other packs are Team Y (Ugin let's say) which are 3 archetypes in colorless, white, black. All the cards together make a single set, but you would draft Ugin packs with Ugin packs, and then only play against players who drafted Bolas packs.

We did this in Mirrodin Besieged. The set was split in Mirran and Phyrexian, and you chose which side to play when you played in the prerelease.

Bloomburrow and Hedgehogs

New 21 Jul 2024 Asked by woodsmithy 6 Comments

I am LOVING Bloomburrow! Haven't been excited for a set like this for a while! But I saw the ask about the hedgehog that got cut and I'm a little disappointed. Hedgehogs are my favorite critters and I would have loved even a one off like hamsters got. It could have been black green and called dredgehog! Maybe in the future?

Maybe. : )

Ubiquitous Tokens Expectation

New 21 Jul 2024 Asked by gcu-sovereign 4 Comments

Is the Ubiquitous Token of a plane something we should expect from visit to visit? Like, how Capenna has its gw citizens, Innistrad has black decayed zombies, LTR had orc armies [applicable to some silmarillion-based visit, I guess]I was looking at the Fish tokens in Bloomburrow and Mercenaries in otj and wondering if those were also more Worldbuilding statements or not.

It’s a mechanical tool that adds flavor, and something we definitely use when shaping a set.

Bloomburrow's Equipment Situation

New 21 Jul 2024 Asked by lookingupanddown 3 Comments

Did Bloomburrow ever have more Equipment that it does right now? Between Blacksmith's Talent and the Valiant mechanic, I'd imagine it would be easier to drop a few more Equipment in the set for increased synergy.

The set had a lot to fit in. There’s a good chance set design tried a larger as-fan of equipment at some point.

Animal Colors Representation

New 19 Jul 2024 Asked by blind42-blog 9 Comments

On the topic of animal colors, why do we keep getting creatures of the night in Gruul colors? Most recently we had werewolves and raccoons show up in RG. Which one of these colors is supposed to be resonating with their affinity amongst the darkness? Red? Because it's closest to black? I feel like it's having a plant show up in Blue/White

Nocturnal animals don’t have to show up in black. Raccoons got red for their trickster nature.

Squirrels Color Associations

New 19 Jul 2024 Asked by gridnack 3 Comments

Black green squirrels work for Bloomburrow but I feel like squirrels could also lean white green for the community aspects.

We have made one white Squirrel, but I’m not sure how communal Squirrels are.

Possible Card Mechanic and Storyline

New 19 Jul 2024 Asked by noahmatthews1399 3 Comments

Hello Mark, I wanted to use my birthday ask to ask if a mechanic like Sole Performer could work in black border? I would also like to request Garruk come back to the story soon

Sole Performer is nowhere close to working in black border. Garruk should return one day. Happy Birthday!

Squirrels Secondary Color Justification

New 19 Jul 2024 Asked by quantext 4 Comments

Why was black chosen as the secondary color for squirrels?

It started because it fit a card I was making in Unstable. That started the ball rolling. I think black feels like a good fit as Squirrels aren’t too far away from Rats.

Importance of Squirrels in Magic

New 18 Jul 2024 Asked by communist-mannyfesto 14 Comments

Question for you and Sally. How does it feel to have your work advocating for squirrels in black border Magic culminating in an entire archetype in a premier set? And an entire commander precon?

It feels good. 🐿️ - Representation matters.

Animal Appearance in Duos

New 17 Jul 2024 Asked by pvonvil 5 Comments

From what I can gather all the duos, like Bakersbane Duo are in shards: Bakersbane duo is green but fits in a squirrel (bg) or raccoon deck (rg), making it a basically a Jund card. The black cards are an exception: Glivedive duo is in a wedge, Mardu (bat wb and lizard rb). Presumably the other black one will be squirrel (bg) and rat (ub)My question is: why? Is the pattern of shards intentional? Is the deviation to one color having wedges intentional?

The only guideline was each animal appeared in just two duos.

Red/White Vampire Feasibility

If or when: Vampire typal as a red/white archtype.

If. Vampires are so core black, it’s hard to imagine a color combination without black.

Color Evaluation: Red Hood vs Batman

New 15 Jul 2024 Asked by zombsidian 6 Comments

What colors would you say Red Hood is? White/Black? And if so, how does that differentiate from Batman specifically? Because I'd argue both Jason and Batman could be White/Black but for different reasons

Red Hood and Batman have very different motivations.

Al-Ghuls' Color Alignment

New 15 Jul 2024 Asked by gloryofdawn 7 Comments

My friend and I can't figure out why you think the Al-Ghuls are Black/Green instead of Black/White. Can you elaborate?

They are very much about controlling the natural order of the world. I will say their third color is white.

Bloomburrow Thematic Construction

New 15 Jul 2024 Asked by shitstormwastaken 0 Comments

You've said you've been seeding the Bloomburrow creature types for a few sets now. Was the decision to make Aclazotz a Bat God, and thus introduce bats and bat themes to the white/black Ixalan vampires, at all influenced by the Bloomburrow bats? There are a lot of pretty obvious similarities (colors, animal type, religion) between the two archetypes across the sets.

If you see any relevant animals in the last Magic “year”, we were very aware of their Bloomburrow needs when we added them to files.

Talia Al-Ghul's Color Identity

New 14 Jul 2024 Asked by honor-basquiat 3 Comments

What color identity is Talia Al-Ghul (from Batman)? I'm thinking mono black or perhaps black and green.

I think her, and her dad, are black/green.
