Hey, big fan of some of the more "monstrous humanoid" types here, particularly around Red, and I was wondering where in the Beeble Scale would Ogres, Trolls, Cyclopses and Giants be?

Giants are a 1, Ogres a 2, Trolls a 3, and Cyclops a 4.

Homunculi and Cyclops Difference

New 13 Jan 2022 Asked by erok-lrrfan 62 Comments

Why are homunculi and cyclops not the same creature type?

Because they are not remotely the same thing. Should Goblins and Merfolk be the same because they both have two eyes?

Difference Between Giants and Cyclops

New 22 Dec 2021 Asked by valvadis 52 Comments

Why are Giants and Cyclops separate creature types?

We actually tried to fold Cyclops into Giants many years back, but the audience didn’t like it, so we broke them apart again.

Red's Reach Trait

New 15 Feb 2020 Asked by victimofnight-blog 30 Comments

Something that has been happening a lot including during Worlds has me thinking. Is reach a thing that Red is typically going to have access to? I'm referring to Flummoxed Cyclops and the fact that players (even at the top level of play) seem to be missing that a lot. Maybe it's a flavour disconnect because most giant-sized creatures don't get reach but this one does.

Red is secondary in reach.

Giant vs Cyclops

New 24 Aug 2019 Asked by wolflight-aesthetic 30 Comments

People get excited about Snakes versus Naga, but I'm curious about Giant versus Cyclops - it's a square-rectangle kind of thing, where all Cyclopes are Giants but not all Giants are Cyclopes. Excepting the Izzet Cyclopes, Cyclopes do not seem to have a mechanic identity distinct from Giants. Just for flavor?

We tried condensing Cyclops down to Giant back in the day, but the players were not happy about it and we changed it back.

Guild Paruns Update

New 30 Jan 2017 Asked by sultaiascendancy-blog 73 Comments

FYI: The guild paruns without cards are Azor I (Azorius, wrote the Guildpact, probably a planeswalker), Cisarzim (Gruul, cyclops warrior), and _____ Simic (Simic, vedalken wizard, first name unknown). Svogthos, the Restless Tomb represents Svogthir, the Golgari parun, but he doesn't have a proper card. Any would be great in Commander sets. Only Cisarzim is canonically confirmed to be dead; the others might still be alive, so they could theoretically show up in a future Ravnica set.

Thanks for the summary.

This may not be your bag, by why does the Cyclops creature type imply Giant? Cat has never implied leonin, and there have been many different sizes and shapes of Minotaurs.

Cyclops are a type of Giant.
