Wolverine

Armadillos and Folklore

New 11 Apr 2024 Asked by submergedforgottencladogram 41 Comments

Mark, I love OTJ, and how it uses the fauna, flora and folklore of North America to feel 'western'. Armadillos, Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Prairie Dogs, Buzzards, Coyotes, Roadrunners, Gila Monsters, Wolverines, Porcupines, Tumbleweeds (nevermind the Tumblewaggs), Beavers, Possums, Badgers, a knight riding a Moose, a battalion of various Cactus-folk and a Magic version of Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox. Its like a roadtrip from my childhood through Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and western Texas was condensed into a set, even the panning for gold at a tourist trap! All I'm left wondering is when can we return so we can get a card inspired by John Henry, the steel-driving man, and maybe an ornery bison or two.

Please dole out copious high fives to those who had the idea that this set needs a bunch of critters from the southwest and the Rocky Mountains to feel like a western setting.

High fives shall be applied.

What is Wolverine color identity? I would assume he is red/green but wouldn’t know his base color

He’s primary green, secondary red, tertiary white.

Speaking of Wolerine(s), what color would Wolverine be? I'm guessing either pure red or RW?

Would Wolverine be a good example of a non-White superhero? I want to say he's either Green or Golgari.

Wolverine is red/green, being core green.

Planeswalkers' Powers Origin

New 07 Apr 2019 Asked by gophilipbowles 60 Comments

You keep mentioning that "planeswalkers have their own suite of powers", but Magic's planeswalkers aren't superheroes with intrinsic abilities - most of those with developed backstories have been described as becoming time mages, telepaths, necromancers, hieromancers etc. through training, while some like Vraska and Arlinn have no intrinsic talents or magic beyond their species identity.

They have special abilities. Some came from training (like Batman or Doctor Strange). Others have natural abilities (like Wolverine or Wonder Woman).

Wolverine's Nature

New 24 Jun 2018 Asked by theuninvitedghost 52 Comments

Wolverine was chaotic, like in berzeker rages. He wouldn’t follow rules, such as “no killing”.

You mean he acted animalistic and went into a Instinctual frenzy? Yeah, pretty green.

You said original comics Wolverine is green? He seems really red to me, at least from comics circa the 80s when I read the most X-Stuff.

Early Wolverine isn’t emotional, he’s feral. His powers are heightened senses and regeneration. Over the years, the character starting becoming more red, but that is not how early Wolverine functioned.

Green Philosophy

New 23 Jun 2018 Asked by tonyredgravedmc 55 Comments

Any words of wisdom about understanding Green philosophically outside of fantasy & fiction? White's communal and lawful, Blue's progressive and thoughtful, Black's selfish and goal oriented, Red is passionate and impulsive, those things apply to people irl easily, but it's hard to attribute Green's philosophies to non-specific people's irl without getting literal with hippies, hunters, animal rights activists, etc. Any example of a non-plant/animal themed Green character?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is pretty green. Original comics Wolverine was pretty green. Yoda is both physically and philosophically green.

Green Character Essence

New 24 Feb 2018 Asked by bugberry 34 Comments

Are there any magic characters you would say exemplify the color green in a non-plant or animal way. Similar to how Red’s loving side gets rarely shown, Green seems to rarely deviate from things being about plants/animals.

Buffy is very green. As is Wolverine in the comics from his early days.

Non-Nature Green Characters

New 03 Feb 2017 Asked by patpov85-blog 45 Comments

Can you give examples of green characters that aren't directly tied to nature? I can see myself connecting with green philosophy but I find very few green characters are relatable.

Yoda is very Green (in philosophy and color). Early Wolverine was pretty Green.Buffy the Vampire has a lot of Green.

Back in the day he was pretty mono-Green. He added more Red over the years and in the last decade has added a bunch of White.

Character Essence Importance

MaRo, I can see you're passionately set against the Superman portrayed in the latest movie. While I can sympathize with your viewpoint to a degree, I feel that you are very explicit in your dislike of such a Superman. The nature of DC/Marvel comics has been that a Wolverine, for instance, in one universe is not necessarily the same as another, having different circumstances, viewpoints and ideas. There is room for Grimdark Superman; he doesn't always have to be the idealist who saves everyone.

I love seeing different portrayals of characters but you have to get the center of the character correct otherwise it’s not the character. Red Son Superman is different than Dark Knight Returns Superman which is different than All-Star Superman but all of them get the essence of the character correct. Someone can make a movie about the Spider-Man that never learns the importance of responsibility but that doesn’t make it a good movie or a good portrayal of Spider-Man.

I don't know much about Wolverine, but I always used him as an example of G/r. What is white about him? : )

Lately in the comics (well, before he SPOILER), he began running the new version of Xavier’s school. They have made him feel more responsible for the fate of young mutants.
