Request for Mono-Blue Spell

New 26 Jun 2024 Asked by honor-basquiat 1 Comments

May I please request a mass blink/flicker spell with a mono blue color identity? There multiple versions of this effect that are mono white (i.e. Another Round, Semester's End, Ghostway, Eerie Interlude) and there have been some that have White and Blue color identity too (i.e. Brago, King Eternal, Disorder in the Court, Yorion, Sky Nomad). It would be really nice to have some that are mono blue for Commander purposes!

White is primary in flickering and blue is secondary, so mass flickering is more a white thing. That doesn’t mean blue can never get it, but it needs the right set.

Reprint Request

New 02 Dec 2023 Asked by razorofartorias 26 Comments

Hi Mark! I hope you are having a great weekend. I don't know if you can pass this message to the team that handles reprints to put in the to-reprint list the ten common cards that still had a old frame on the Pauper Cube: Deftblade Elite, Phantom Nomad, Capsize, Miscalculation, Ashes to Ashes, Pestilence, Tortured Existence, Silver Drake, Temporal Spring and Cavern Harpy. Thanks!

I’ll pass the list along.

Nomads in Premier Sets

Hey Mark, do you think a few Nomads could show up in a premier set like the Rebel creature type did?

It’s possible.

Unique Card Drawbacks Request

New 09 Jul 2022 Asked by obazervazi 29 Comments

I ran out of text space. I meant cards like Forbidden Orchard in Massacre Girl, Nomad Stadium in Darien, or Sorrow's Path in Enrage decks. Drawbacks that are drawbacks in 99% of decks, but good on rare occasions because they are one of the few cards that do that thing some other card cares about. I'm asking for more weird, one of a kind drawbacks, including ones that are bafflingly awful until someone figures it out.

Players do like drawbacks you can turn into a positive with proper deck building, but usually a bit more of the time than 1%. What you’re asking for is mostly just cards with big downsides which are pretty unpopular. We make them on occasion, but not often.

Do you think nomads could make a return as a tribe?

There’s always a chance.

Information on Celtic Plane

New 06 Aug 2020 Asked by chorocojo-b-deactivated20221107 44 Comments

There is a second Celtic plane that we've seen. It's called Ir and was hinted at in Future sight and has shown up in Planechase and Commander. It's the world Fomori Nomad and Ruhan of the Fomori are from

Desk Nomad Inspiration

New 19 Jan 2019 Asked by phyrexianoracle 28 Comments

Mark, after all your stories of being a desk nomad when you 1st arrived at wizards I’m surprised to not see a card inspired by it in the “unsets”. Have tried and failed or still looking for the right home?

It’s a pretty narrow joke.

Keyword and Color Pie

New 15 Apr 2017 Asked by theuninvitedghost 24 Comments

Regarding if Desert Nomads were in Amonkhet, do you guys strongly consider things like that that you know people would want and make people happy, or do you just dismiss them for silly reasons like "Protection and landwalk aren't ever green any more, we haven't done those abilities in a while, and there are no other cards in the set with those abilities?" No one who plays magic, new or old, would get a broken brain over how those abilities work or thay no other creature in the set has them.

Our goal is to make people happy while still doing things like using keywords we currently support and upholding the color pie.

It is not.

Diverse Cultures in Sets

New 18 Feb 2017 Asked by haiddon 41 Comments

what I meant by "different and distinct cultures" was a series of factions that are clearly different people groups, and very much exist in different areas of the plane. like tarkir, they had monks on the mountain tops, warriors who charged across the plains, nomads, surviving in the frozen tundra, schemers, who plotted in jungles and swamps, and survivors, who marched across the deserts. these weren't just different factions, they were extremely different cultures existing on the same world.

I believe we’ll do that again but it will probably require some kind of factioning.

First Days Trivia

New 22 May 2015 Asked by toren8002 67 Comments

Birthday!! This also marks 20 years of playing Magic!! Thanks for the memories. May I have some trivia about your first few days working at Wizards?

For the first six weeks I was at Wizards I had no desk. We were just about move to a new building (now our old building) and R&D was out of space so I was told to just use desks of people when they weren’t using it. Yes, I started my time at Wizards as a desk nomad. When I got to the new office, I finally got a desk but had no computer, phone or chair. I needed to be more specific. Happy Birthday!

Non-Basic Land Subtypes

New 14 Sep 2014 Asked by spadesslick 56 Comments

The land Desert was printed with the Desert subtype. This allowed it to be referenced on the cards Camel (Desert deals no damage to it) and Desert Nomads (which has desertwalk and also isn't dealt damage by Desert). My question is: Would you ever print a land with a non-basic subtype in modern Magic?

If there was a good mechanical design reason, sure.

Unique Land Types

New 08 Dec 2013 Asked by vault756 9 Comments

Mark, what's the deal with Urza's Factory and Desert? They both have land types that don't mean or do anything. At least the Lair cycle and the 2 Locus lands care about their own land types. Is there any plan to utilize the "Desert" or "Urza's" land types for anything?

Desert matters mechanically in the very set it was introduced with the Desert Nomads and Camel. The Urza’s subtype was needed for rules reasons, I believe.

Livewire Lash Mechanic

New 23 Dec 2012 Asked by losingmusings 6 Comments

Someone mentioned the "Livewire Lash" effect for red. To make it a full mechanic, I think it needs to be scaled back and read, "Whenever CARDNAME becomes the target of a spell or ability for the first time in a turn EFFECT." Allows for better effects without Nomads en-Kor ruining the day.

It would have to be the target of a spell or ability controlled by an opponent.

Zero Activation Costs

New 03 Oct 2012 Asked by americantdreams 5 Comments

Why aren't there many cards printed anymore that have activation costs for 0:? Too complicated ala Spirit Mirror and Nomads En-Kor?

It causes a lot of confusion. What exactly does paying 0 mean? It threw many players, so we tend to avoid it.
