Rarity Assignment Errors

What cards do you think were the biggest rarity mistakes? As in, cards that were unnecessarily high rarity, or cards that warped limited environments being too low rarity.

The classic mistake was Pestilence at common in Urza’s Saga.

Hi Mark! I hope you are having a great weekend. I don't know if you can pass this message to the team that handles reprints to put in the to-reprint list the ten common cards that still had a old frame on the Pauper Cube: Deftblade Elite, Phantom Nomad, Capsize, Miscalculation, Ashes to Ashes, Pestilence, Tortured Existence, Silver Drake, Temporal Spring and Cavern Harpy. Thanks!

I’ll pass the list along.

Black's Pestilence Space

New 06 Mar 2023 Asked by zorroaburrito 44 Comments

Conductor of Cacophony is a fairly recent card playing in the Pestilence space in B (and it's even in a JMP pack themed around that mechanic). Is it in-pie because of it's differences (paying the counters maybe)? Or is it something that we shouldn't expect more of?

The ability is core red, not black. It’s a slight bend in black though, not a break.

Mr. Rosewater, is Pestilence/Pyrohemia in-color-pie for both black and red nowadays?

It’s in red now.

Black Damage Scope

Are "damage to each creature and each player" cards like Pestilence and Last Laugh still in pie for black?

Not really. It can do -N/-N to all creatures.

Effect Color Distribution

New 11 Feb 2013 Asked by sarroth 4 Comments

Is the Pestilence/Pyrohemia effect both black and red? I'd think it was black only if it gained life as well, but Pestilence Demon saw print recently suggesting it is still a black effect too. How so when black also gets drain life effects and mass destruction?

It’s a black effect. Pyrohemia is from Planar Chaos, the set that experimented with an alternate reality where the color pie had played out differently.
