Absent Hedgehogs in Bloomburrow

New 19 Jul 2024 Asked by holoio-blog 0 Comments

Hi Mark, first off thank you and the team for the amazing Bloomburrow set. Just wanted to ask, is there a reason why you did not include any hedgehogs in it despite having tons of other critters not in the main tribes (weasels, foxes, moles, hamsters, etc)?

We included a lot of one-of creatures, and I believe we designed a hedgehog, but it didn’t make it to print. I’m not sure why, but it probably has to do with the individual card design.

Bird Versus Mole Mechanics

New 12 Jul 2024 Asked by puddlemereunited25-blog 16 Comments

Now that Bloomburrow is in preview season, feels like a great opportunity to ask a question about magic which has always bugged me. How come birds get to fly but moles and other similar creatures don't get an evasion mechanic called "burrow" (i.e. flying but underground)?

Because we have an evergreen mechanic called flying and not one called burrowing. : )The closest we have to burrowing is “target creature with power 2 or less is unblockable” first seen on Dwarven Warriors in Alpha.

Panda Creature Possibility

You guys made a mole, a sloth and a capybara recently. There's any chance of making a panda?

There is always a chance.

Molefolk Art Style

New 20 Jan 2024 Asked by curiooftheheart 37 Comments

Hey Mark. I know you aren't on story team but as someone who does have more behind the scenes than us I wanted to ask you about the mole person in MKM. It seems kinda controversial in some places I see because it's the first molefolk on Ravnica and he is very cartoony which clashes with the plane. Do you know what's up with it?

I went and looked at the card. I don’t find the art cartoony.

Capybara Debate

New 15 Feb 2020 Asked by rod-b-negri-blog 34 Comments

I actually think that capybaras should be the red rodent rather than moles. Boy, they are very emotional, if you mess with them you will regret your life... (search for "capybara attack")

I would not have picked this as the most popular topic of the day. : )

Rodent Cycle Composition

Rodent Cycle: Moles should be Reds and Beavers should be Blue (to complete the Rat/Black, Mouse/White, Squirrel/Green cycle).

Interesting suggestion.

Rare Creature Types

New 10 Nov 2019 Asked by doortonothingness 79 Comments

The loneliest creature types (which have only one representative creature card not counting Changelings, tokens and Mistform Ultimus) are Brushwagg, Dreadnought, Ferret, Lamia, Mole, Oyster, Pest, Reflection, Sable, Spawn and Wombat. Where does each rank on the Beeble scale?

They are all 8 and 9’s. I can say one of them shows up on a new card in Unsanctioned. : )

Gods vs. Moles

New 23 Feb 2017 Asked by sunnyautumns 111 Comments

There are 15 Gods in Magic, with at least 5 more on the horizon (presumably). Yet, there is only ONE (1) mole! Does this mean that Gods are canonically more common creatures in the multiverse than moles?

Magic cards are not trying to be representative of the inhabitants of a world but rather focus on its highlights. So, is Magic hinting that Gods are more important to most worlds than Moles? Yes, yes it is. : )

Can you confirm or deny the existence of moles in Kaladesh?

You mean a spy? : )

Mole Beast vs Squirrel

New 04 May 2016 Asked by secondmoonrise-blog 113 Comments

Biggest Question I have with SOI: Why is a "Mole Beast" acceptable in black border but "squirrel" is not? Wouldn't a squirrel horror been great there?

Preaching to the choir.

Creature Type Choices

Why was Mole made a creature type in SOI? Why not just Beast?

Maybe he’s a Spy. : )
