Gnomes vs Gremlins vs Goblins

New 03 Nov 2023 Asked by hedgewizard714 59 Comments

Hi Mark! In terms of flavor, what is the difference between gnomes, gremlins, and goblins? I love them all, but to me, they all seem to be mischievous little creatures that care about artifacts. Thank you for everything you do!

Gnomes, at least in Magic, are artificial created beings.Gremlins tend to be destructive creatures without much sapience.Goblins are clever little creatures that natural instincts lend towards chaos.

Heroes of the Realm cards don’t have to follow all the normal rules.

Planeswalkers Flavor Text

New 27 Dec 2022 Asked by finneyflame 25 Comments

Do you think we'll ever get more flavor text on planeswalkers? Like with Chandra, Gremlin Wranger.

Heroes of the Realm cards are not technically Magic cards, so they get break all sorts of rules. I don’t expect to see flavor text on planeswalkers anytime soon.

Request for More Gremlins

New 30 Mar 2022 Asked by j-waffles 45 Comments

May I like to request more gremlins? I think many of the goblin variants on different planes could just as easily be gremlins, and I really like the grimy little guys

I too am a Gremlin fan and would like to see them more.

Different Color Rodents

New 03 Mar 2022 Asked by popcornbunni 43 Comments

Can every color get its own respective rodent/vermin? White has mice, Black, rats, and Green, squirrels. Rabbits fit Blue even if they aren't rodents exactly, but Red is harder to pin down. Maybe something known to be more temperamental, like weasels or badgers?

Gremlins are the rodents of Kaladesh.

Some, like Stripe, are black/red.

Possible Appearance of Phrexian Gremlins

New 24 Oct 2021 Asked by rincewindthewanderer 30 Comments

As a gremlin fan, could we possibly see phrexian gremlins (the creature type), rather than a reprint of the card Phyrexian Gremilns in Brothers' War?

That has a higher chance of possibility.

Phyrexian Gremlins Reprint Query

New 24 Oct 2021 Asked by echmiadzin 37 Comments

Is the upcoming Brother's War set the right place to FINALLY reprint Phyrexian Gremlins? Antiquities showed off the results of the War so I expect some callbacks to stuff seen or alluded to there, but Phyrexian Gremlins hasn't seen the light of day since it original printing.

Black no longer (and one could argue never should have) does that in its slice of the color pie.

Adding Squirrels Debate

New 19 Aug 2019 Asked by coolflashyname 290 Comments

RE: "squirrels don't add to enjoyment" it's possible I'm biased as I've always enjoyed squirrels but I'm struggling to see how this is a valid argument. In the last 2/3 years we've seen gremlins added as well as dinosaurs. We've also seen a shift from elves as the 1/1 G token over to saprolings for at least 3 sets. None of those inherently made the game more enjoyable in a way that squirrels as tokens couldn't. I'm not mad and I know you're in favor of squirrels I just don't get that argument.

Let’s try this. Would having Sauirrels in black border make the game more fun personally for you?

Kaladesh Trivia

New 19 Dec 2018 Asked by a-curious-mage 39 Comments

Hello. My birthday question must have been taken by the gremlins and eaten. May I ask for trivia about Chandra Nalaar or Kaladesh?

Originally, Kaladesh was going to fall after Amknkhet, but we realized the story worked better if we reversed them. This change happened in the middle of exploratory design.
Happy Birthday!
