Heterochromia and Avatar Color

New 13 Jun 2024 Asked by zanmor 7 Comments

I think you've answered this before but if I have heterochromia or have two different colored eye contacts in, Avatar of Me is both colors, correct? Mostly asking so the person seeking more colors can really game the system. ;)

Correct. Kate Bozworth’s Avatar of Me is blue and hazel.

Understanding 'Each Color' in Acorn Games

New 13 Jun 2024 Asked by eredithdriscol 4 Comments

Per culation's ask about "each color" in acorn games, would having Water Gun Balloon Game or Sword of Dungeons and Dragons, which reference pink and gold but aren't those colors themselves, count for those colors being "active"?What about if I had Avatar of Me in the graveyard (and brown eyes)?

To count an additional color you have to have a permanent of that color on the battlefield, not just a permanent that refers to it.

Hexproof and Un-Games

New 13 Jun 2024 Asked by culation 4 Comments

CR 702.1c states that "the same is true for" effects apply to each of a keyword's variants separately. 702.11g states that "hexproof from each " is shorthand for one variant of hexproof per possible quality of that characteristic. This means in non-Un games, discarding Breaker of Creation (which has hexproof from each color) to Indominus Rex, Alpha gives five counters and thus draws five cards. How many cards do you draw in an Un game? (In particular, does every eye color count?)

In Un-games, when counting colors, you count the five normal colors plus any color of permanents you have. You have the gold Dragon token from Sword of Dungeons & Dragons, you’re now at six. You also have a brown Avatar of Me, you’re now at seven. You have a pink Teddy bear counter from Gift Shop, you’re now at eight.

Color Choice Limits

New 25 Feb 2024 Asked by aalgot 26 Comments

In an un Game, when asked to choose a color, can I choose the fictional color Octarine from discworld?

You can only choose a color that exists in the game. Note Un-cards add a bunch. If you have the right contact lenses and Avatar of Me, you can add most colors.

Game Mechanics Query

New 24 Jan 2024 Asked by dapatman-blog 28 Comments

In an Acorn game, if I control Leyline of the Guildpact and my brown-eyed opponent controls Avatar of Me, are all my nonland permanents brown in addition to the five regular colours?

Yep.

Changing Contacts

For the purposes of Avatar of Me, does changing your contact lenses go on the stack?

Sure. : )

Artificial Evolution Limit

New 22 Oct 2023 Asked by cssbb21-blog 58 Comments

Can Artificial Evolution target text that is technically a creature type but is used in a different context? I thought so, as long as it's not rules text or reminder text. I.E. can I use Artificial Evolution to change the text on Avatar of Me "Avatar of Me's color is the color of your ouphes?" And if so, would that now mean that if I had two Brown Ouphes in play, Avatar of Me would be Brown? And if I had a Faeburrow Elder in play and tap it, would I be "forced" to add one Brown Mana?

It can only change words being used in the context of being a creature type.

Avatar Measurement Question

New 17 Jun 2023 Asked by j-waffles 30 Comments

Un-rules question!I think it’s obvious that when avatar of me asks for your height in feet it’s referring to your height standing up; but what if the person physically can’t stand up? I have a friend who’s in a wheelchair for a few months and we want to know if we should measure his height standing or his height in the wheelchair.

The intent is height standing up, but they may use height in the wheelchair if they prefer.

Avatar Color Criteria

New 04 Jun 2023 Asked by j-waffles 42 Comments

If avatar of me is the color of the controller’s eyes, doesn’t that mean it’s basically always going to be at least white and black, since almost everyone has pupils and sclera?

It means the iris if the eye, what people think if as eye color.

Avatar Color Specifics

If you got into a fight and have a black eye, does that count for Avatar of Me?

The color of your eyes not the area around your eyes. : )

Avatar Color Classification

New 03 Jun 2023 Asked by geistfueledscarecrow 60 Comments

Avatar of Me's rules text says it's the color of your eyes, but red and white aren't human eye colors. In this case, do *really* light blue eyes count as white and do brown ones count as red?

Avatar of Me lets creatures be colors other than the five Magic colors.

Avatar of Me Ruling

New 23 May 2022 Asked by aninterestingidea 72 Comments

“If you're wearing colored contact lenses, Avatar of Me is whatever color your eyes appear to be. You can add or remove contact lenses to change your eye color in response to spells and abilities.“ I just want to say this is probably the best ruling ever, thanks for it existing.

Glad to help.

Multi-color Avatar of Me

New 10 Apr 2022 Asked by blood-fish-god 32 Comments

Hypothetically, if someone with more than 2 eyes was playing Avatar of Me, could it be more than 2 colors?

Sure. You should see when Beholders play it. : )

Silver-bordered Rules

New 16 Nov 2021 Asked by kaveriniofficial 37 Comments

Silver-bordered rules question: if I am playing against a computer AI who plays Avatar of Me, what is its toughness given that computers don't wear shoes? Is it 0? How about its eye color?

It would be zero and it would be colorless.

Rarity Granting Color Protection

Can Rarity grant protection from hazel, brown, gray, and Amber since those are possible colors on Avatar of Me?

Sure, but no other cards are those colors.

Unhinged Draft Memories

New 25 May 2020 Asked by sapphirenightmareblade 14 Comments

Happy birthday Mark! You have improved my life in so many ways, both tangible and intangible, but one of my favorite stories I like to share about Magic is when I organized an Unhinged/Modern Master's/Unhinged draft. Reading this blog helped me get that Unhinged drafts really well with normal sets, and it was an absolute blast. I went 3-0 with faeries/aesthetic consultation for Avatar of Me. There was also a SNOT deck and a sweet topsy turvey suspend control list.

Transguild Courier Colors in Un-game

New 08 Mar 2020 Asked by jimmycomments 57 Comments

In an Un-game, how many colours is Transguild Courier? 9? (WUBRG + Pink, Gold, Brown, and Hazel?)

In silver border, the five main colors (white, blue, black, red, and green) always exist. Other colors exist when a card makes them exist. If you have a pink teddy bear, pink exists. Because of Avatar of Me and the ruling that you can wear contact lenses, all colors potentially exist, so things that care about color don’t care about potential, but what currently exists - with the caveat that the main five always exist.

Color Identity Clarification

New 24 Dec 2019 Asked by theblocknessmonster 33 Comments

FYI, I'm pretty sure that with those "hypothetical" cards and color identity, effects that change a card's color don't change its color identity for the purposes of deckbuilding. Example: Avatar of Me has an ability that changes its color to the color of your eyes, but before you shuffle to begin the game, your Deck isn't a Library, so it remains blue outside of the game. The ability only works during a game, so you can put it in a blue deck, and it won't become illegal if your eyes are green.

The color defining ability works at any state color is determined just like any other color setting card, otherwise you could put Transguild Courier in any deck as it’s not five colors until the game begins.
