Future of Licids

New 28 Feb 2023 Asked by wildcardgamez 43 Comments

If/When: More Licids. They play around in such fun design space but we haven't gotten any in so long.

Actually Licids? If. Licid-esque? When. Reconfigure, from Neon Dynasty, is us playing in this mechanical space.

Licids Coming Back?

Could we ever see Licids again? What conditions would they need to make a resurgence if so?

I think reconfigure was kind of a modern day licid.

The Reality Chip's Creature Type

New 27 Jan 2022 Asked by llanowarminotaur 32 Comments

Was there any discussion during design of making The Reality Chip a Licid rather than a Jellyfish?

While reconfigure is similar in many ways to Licids, it’s not exactly the same and that might cause confusion. Also, creatively, Licids have only appeared on Rath (now Dominaria).

Unique Creatures Production Frequency

New 12 Oct 2021 Asked by koriko99 71 Comments

"1) There are also a bunch lower down on the scale. We have a lot of unique things to Magic.2) A bunch you have listed aren’t unique to Magic (like noggle or ouphe)." Which unique creatures are lower on the scale besides Slivers? And even those are only in supplemental sets at this point. I didn't know those weren't unique to magic, but the point is still the same; you guys seem to produce the more interesting looking and less generic creatures less often.

The original Magic creature types: Aetherborn, Assembly-Worker, Atog, Azra, Beeble, Blinkmoth, Bringer, Brushwagg, Camarid, Cephalid, Eldrazi, Fractal, Graveborn, Homarid, Inkling, Kavu, Kithkin, Kor, Lhurgoyf, Licid, Masticore, Metathran, Myr, Nightstalker, Orgg, Pentavite, Pest, Phelddagrif, Phyrexian, Praetor, Rigger, Saproling, Slith, Sliver, Soltari, Spellshaper, Spike, Surrakar, Tetravite, Thalakos, Triskelavite, Vedalken, Viashino, Volver, and Zubera.A bunch of those have appeared on new cards in the last five years.

High Beeble Scale Creature Types

New 11 Oct 2021 Asked by koriko99 53 Comments

Why are so many creature types that are unique to magic high on the beeble scale? Spike (7), Slith (7), Beeble (10), Atog (7), Bringer (9), Brushwagg (8), Homarid (8), Lhurgoyf (7), Licid (9 1/2), Monger (9), Nephilim (8), Noggle (8), Ouphe (9), Phelddagrif (9 1/2). These original creatures were a huge reason I fell in love with earlier magic and I feel like you guys have basically abandoned most of them in favor of more generic creatures.

Two things:1) There are also a bunch lower down on the scale. We have a lot of unique things to Magic. 2) A bunch you have listed aren’t unique to Magic (like noggle or ouphe).

Future of Licids

Could licids be less of a problem with modern templating and as enchantment creatures?

It’s possible modern design technology could let us capture the essence of Licids..

Slivers and Licids Comparison

New 22 Jul 2021 Asked by baron-von-lucas 50 Comments

"Without the thing that definitionally makes them Licids?". Trolls historically had ties to regeneration that has since been separated. What makes Licids different?

Trolls have existed in pop culture for centuries. People have associations beyond just the game. Licids mean nothing outside the context of Magic. Would you like a new set with Slivers that don’t grant abilities to one another?

Potential Return of Licids

Could Licids return without the problematic ability?

Likelihood of More Licids

If or when: More Licids?

If. My guess is we’d more likely do something similar than do exactly Licids.

Licid Design Issues

New 01 Dec 2019 Asked by midwestmtgjudge 30 Comments

From a Play Design perspective, what are the issues with Licids? I also like the creature type, and the flavor of them being a sort of magical parasite.

Licids were next to impossible to get rid of as they kept changing state.

Licids and Modern Designs

New 30 Nov 2019 Asked by mathweasels 21 Comments

I'm a big fan of licids and I'm wondering if we could get some new ones with modern tech like DFCs or bestow, etc..

Double-faced cards handle the conceptual issue of Licids well, but doesn’t help with the play design issue.

Licids Tribal Support

Spike Creatures Return

Hey Mark, missed my birthday on Wednesday and would like to get some triva on Spikes (the creature) plus a maybe on their return?

I originally designed Spikes in Tempest design, but we pushed them back to Stronghold, save the one teaser, to separate them from the Licids.Happy Birthday!

Licids DFC Suggestion

New 28 Oct 2017 Asked by hayamasb 15 Comments

Is there a way to errata the licids into being DFCs? It would make the rules manager stop running away in fear of them. : )

We can’t turn cards into double-faced cards that weren’t originally double-faced cards. That would be functional errata.

Future of Licids

Let’s call them a 10 on the Storm Scale.
