Undead Type Attempt

New 10 Mar 2024 Asked by dazzani 37 Comments

If/When: "Undead" batch (Which would include Spirits, Zombies, Skeletons, Vampires and Wraiths, or the like)

If. Many years ago, we attempted to combine a bunch of creature types into Undead, but it didn’t go well and we put them back.

Ring Mechanic Concept

New 19 Jun 2023 Asked by rtk1357 20 Comments

Hi Mark, was there ever any consideration for the “ring tempts you” mechanic to give the ring bearer the Wraith or another creature type as they became more tempted?

We talked about it, but never executed it in any version of the mechanic that I know of.

Birthday Combo Trivia

New 09 Dec 2022 Asked by dancingindecay138 41 Comments

Hi Mark. I was sick during my birthday a week ago and forgot to message you. As a Spike limited player I was reminiscing earlier about simpler times. I started in Revised, and still love MTG after all these years. When I first started playing as a kid, I was in love with the combo of Bog Wraith and Evil Presence (so much flavor). Can you give me fun trivia about a combo that YOU enjoy?

The first combo that fascinated me was Lure and Thicket Basilisk. The first deck I made was monogreen as my first Starter deck had a Craw Wurm.Happy Belated Birthday!

Changing 'Undead' Creature Type

New 04 Apr 2022 Asked by greg502 38 Comments

FYI "Undead" used to be creature type for two cards, they became a Horror and a Wraith with the creature type update

We experimented with using Undead for all dead creature types, but we gave up on it after one set.

Discussion about Printed Cards

New 18 May 2021 Asked by sniffnoy 39 Comments

Some of the cards you say in your column today didn't make it to print did, in fact, make it to print! Butterfly became Whip-Spine Drake; Spellwild Dog became Spellwild Ouphe; Boss Scragnoth became Quagnoth. Also, Sneaky Goblin seems a lot like Street Wraith, and Veiled Clone like Shapeshifter's Marrow. Also the green common kicker/convoke creature did make it, as Kavu Primarch; Sprout Swarm was in addition. Also, one of the vanishing cycle you say got cut did stay, as Lost Auramancers.

Innistrad Tribal Identity

New 20 Aug 2018 Asked by rotwench 45 Comments

I mean, you could easily, easily set something on innistrad with a different tribal focus, especially because it's all stuff that already exists there. g/b: clerics&horrors (cultists) w/r: knights (church cathars) w/b: shades or wraiths (usual spirit stuff, but innistrad's rather more frightening and restless dead u/r: wizards (the various mad scientists. necro-alchemists, geist fueled technology, etc) u/g: mutants (alchemists creations, weirder werepeople, residual eldrazified stuff, etc.)

Innistrad has a clean tribal identity. We can do one-of’s, but the main tribal for Innistrad is already a core identity of the world. We have lots of other worlds to do things like Cleric tribal.

Cycling Mechanic Return

New 30 May 2015 Asked by the-batlord 16 Comments

if cycling were to come back, would we get cheap or no-cost cycling creatures like street wraith or deadshot minotuar?

Mechanics lead to better gameplay if there are substantial decisions to be made.

Victorian Setting Possibility

New 01 Mar 2015 Asked by ptenterprises 32 Comments

Since we're talking about alternate planes and settings (fwiw, I agree about not going high-tech) what's the likelihood of a Victorian (possibly steampunk?) setting as hinted by Patrician's Scorn and Street Wraith from Future Sight?

Anything we teased at in Future Sight is possible.
