World Building in Bloomburrow

Sets like Outlaws and Karlov Manor haven't been my particular cup of tea recently, but the sheer wonder and fantasy that oozes from everything about Bloomburrow makes me want so much more. In particular the world building feels so charming and natural with the cultures of each of the animalfolk existing in ways that just seem so perfect and make so much sense, it makes me wish Bloomburrow was a Ravnican style set with each set focusing on 5 of the 2 color pairs, rather than all 10 in 1. Was this ever considered when designing the set?

Card Words Addition Discussion

It's just a slippery slope to putting a lot of extra words on cards for minimal mechanical gain.Putting it on specifically slime against humanity would actually decrease the amount of words on it but whatever. (Scince “Kindred Ooze” is only two words but “Or are named Slime Against Humanity” is six)

Decisions like this tend to be decided more big picture. One card might benefit, but the larger game as a whole wouldn’t when thinking about the change across many cards.

Cards can’t count the properties of face down cards in exile. Interestingly, it can care that it’s a card, so it will count it if the effect specifically cares about just cards in exile. In short, Slime Against Humanity won’t care about face down Oozes/other Slime Against Humanity cards

Hey Maro! I would like to humbly request a legendary Weird Ooze. I’m not sure I care about the colors, but perhaps a weird ooze tribal component. I’ve just never thought about that combination before and I very much enjoy the concept.

On the subject of off color creature types. A way to do it as a theme in a set might be to have the set focus around the secondary colors for the type? Goblins are mainly red, but show up a moderate amount in black, so the set could focus more on black goblins than red ones. The same goes for elves in green and white, giants in red and white, spiders on green and black, and many others that I can’t think of off the top of my head. This way, you’re not entering entirely new space with something like a mono-white hydra, you’re just exploring existing space, like with a mono-blue ooze. Exploring existing space instead of entering new space helps you avoid the issues of designing for an eternal world.

That’s how we already do it when introducing a new color to a creature type that’s existed for while.

Just in time for Halloween and after a week, I have the results of the Great EDH Creature Type Request 2022! Expanding Mechanics

When it comes to mechanical depths, do you think shallow mechanics could be less so by expanding the limitations they previously had, such as adding a color or by allowing a new card type to use them? I.e Aeve, Progenitor ooze? Or give red access to Cipher?

When judging mechanical depth, we look beyond restrictions applied in its first outing.
