Valkyrie Token Confusion

New 05 May 2023 Asked by forestd3w 40 Comments

Hi, I bought a Valkyrie Harbinger for one of my deck, but I'm confused for the token. Valkyrie Harbinger creates a "4/4 white Angel creature token with flying and vigilance" and I can't find such a token in Kaldheim because it seem the angel token it has is a 4/4 white Angel Warrior with flying and vigilance. Is it a misprint? Oracle doesn't have the warrior subtype. If it is, can it be errated to make the token a warrior too?

Valkyrie Harbinger and Rampage of the Valkyries both create a 4/4 white Angel token that isn’t a Warrior, so it wasn’t a misprint.

Serra Trivia for Birthday

New 16 Sep 2020 Asked by ecoli13 44 Comments

If it’s not too much trouble I would like to get a bit of birthday trivia about Serra, my favorite planeswalker.

The names Serra came from the word “serrated” because the warrior angel carried a sword.Happy Birthday!

Dual Race/Class Lords

New 13 Sep 2020 Asked by polluxr 47 Comments

Was there ever consideration of dual race/class lords (lorwyn-like)? I'd love to have gotten a bit of Kor support and other formats would probably appreciate having another human/elf/merfolk/vampire (plus cleric/wizard/rogue lord) instead of just the warrior lord.

Tribal support is tricky and we have limited space. I hear you though that you’d like more world specific tribal support.

Creature Type Consolidation

New 18 Feb 2019 Asked by lookingupanddown 39 Comments

During the Grand Creature Type Update, was it ever considered to consolidate bigger creature types amongst each other? I'm thinking collapsing Samurai, Knight, Barbarian, Berserker, and/or Soldier into the Warrior creature type.

The goal of creature types is not just maximizing tribal interactions. There’s a lot of flavor dividing up certain categories (such as magic caster or combatant).

Squirrel Sub-Theme Potential

Would it be possible to see a squirrel sub-theme in a supplemental booster based set like the warrior subtheme in Battlebond?

Unstable had a small Squirrel theme.

Warrior Tribal Trivia

New 26 May 2018 Asked by ti0mumu 19 Comments

Happy Birthday Mark!! My birthday as yesterday but I forgot to ask a question so, ith all the Battlebond hype floating around, could I get some Trivia about the Warrior tribal? that's by far one of my favorite things about the set

We used to focus a not more on Soldier than Warrior, but ever since the Warrior tribal of Khans, we’ve upped Warriors a bit. Happy Birthday!

Amonkhet Token Vigilance

New 19 Apr 2017 Asked by charjazznable 44 Comments

Why do a bunch of the 1/1 tokens made in Amonkhet have vigilance? Seems like a weird keyword for a 1/1, let alone a trend of 1/1s.

We were trying to convey the sense that they were the citizens of the city working out for the trials. We gave them the Warrior subtype and vigilance to capture the intensity of their training. The other option, first strike, led to bad game play en masse.

Warrior Sub-theme Insight

New 01 Feb 2015 Asked by h0nchkr0w 25 Comments

I'm interested as to the decision to include the Warrior sub-theme in Khans block so far. I doesn't do anything significant in the wedge-themed Khans, and doesn't have the time-travel feel of Fate Reforged. Why keep it in? Both of those sets already have great and varied mechanics and themes.

Tribal themes are very popular, so much so that we try to include at least one in each block. In Khans, Warriors was used as something for a White/Black deck to do in draft.

Khans Theme Query

New 02 Oct 2014 Asked by danvogelsong 33 Comments

If Khans was supposed to be a block with a warrior subtheme, why are there so many soldiers & bezerkers?

Because not everything is supposed to be part of the warrior subtheme.

Anthropomorphic Species Logic

New 14 Aug 2013 Asked by sazorak 15 Comments

why exactly does every intelligent species have to be anthropomorphic Maro? why can't a hyperintelligent megatoad learn the way of the warrior without being a biped? Serioustalk.

Resonance. When animals act like humans, it helps for them to have some human features.

Bushido Flavor Limitations

New 12 Aug 2013 Asked by mousegirlpenis 23 Comments

Bushido is often defined as "way of the warrior" but its actually literally "warrior spirit" not sure how that's against magic flavour

The problem is the flavor is still pretty limited as it can only go on things that have the flavor of being a warrior, basically humanoids and even then a subset of them. Let’s imagine you made a giant toad that you wanted to give the ability to. “Way of the warrior” would make no sense.

Design Roles

New 28 Oct 2011 Asked by eternalcheechako 0 Comments

I just finished "A Kick in the Seat of the Pants" and I was wondering which of Explorer/Artist/Judge/Warrior you consider yourself best at in magic design.

Part of being Head Designers is taking on all four roles. Probably I’m best at being the Artist but I’ve discovered that I have to spend a lot of time being the Warrior.
