Reiterate

Keyword Fatigue Feedback

New 03 Mar 2024 Asked by thegreatklaid 116 Comments

Im just gonna say I know my community is beyond sick of all these new keywords and actions and whatever you wanna call them. Like all excitement for Thunder Junction was sucked out the window when we read the phrase "commit a crime". Because we knew it was gonna grind another dozen games to a halt as we were going to have to look up the exact phrasing, because somebody was going to make some weird play. The same as its been with discover, and historic, and reconfigure. I've even had to stop and explain surveil. Even playing a precon took way longer because I had to essentially keep one card in my hand to make sure I was doing disguise right. And keep explaining it. And while I am it, ward. We had to reiterate all weekend what ward did, so people knew "cant be countered" got around it. And these are tournament players Mr. Rosewater. Some of us have been playing since 93. You cannot get more ingrained than our community. And we are so ingrained we know nothing can change for years. We know how design works. But we are begging you. Soon, please. Stop with the keywords. Just put the text on the card. None of us like having to pull out our phones to add more text to the effects.

The text for all non-evergreen mechanics *is* on the card, with the sole exception of a few high rarity cards where the reminder text doesn’t fit. And that’s been true for decades.

Legendary Drawback Discussion

New 18 Aug 2023 Asked by nightfiremelody 138 Comments

I play Magic daily, and respectfully, I cannot recall the last time the Legendary drawback was relevant to me. EDH is singleton, so it rarely matters there. In Constructed, you build your deck, so you build with the Legend rule in mind. In Limited, you rarely have multiple copies of a Legend at all, even at uncommon. So, I'll reiterate, it feels to me that 90% of the time, the drawback isn't relevant. I know you may disagree, but I'd still like to hear more about WotC's perspective on the shift.

When you play non-singleton formats, do you play less than four copies of legendary creatures? If you do, then it’s mechanically impacting your play. Also, if we want you to play multiples, we specifically don’t make it legendary. Third, if we put them at uncommon, we have to adjust the set to accommodate for it, so the legendary drawback matters less.

Dominaria United Praise

New 03 Nov 2022 Asked by relicmtg 21 Comments

I know you've probably heard it a bunch, but I just want to reiterate what a slam dunk the Dominaria United limited format was. So unique and so much fun. A really masterfully-crafted set. Big thanks to everyone involved in its creation for the hours and hours of fun.

I’ll pass along the kind words.

Unfinity's Legal Cards

New 21 Sep 2022 Asked by blaze-1013 48 Comments

I think you should reiterate for people that Unfinity was changed to allow some cards to be eternal legal late in the process. In a different Universe this call wasn't made and the product would be nearly indistinguishable from the one in our universe. The only difference is now cards that would be eternal legal if they originated in any other Magic product are now eternal legal despite first being in an Un-Product.

Thanks for doing it for me. : )

Limited's Popularity Defence

New 29 Sep 2021 Asked by lurking-mtg-dnd 73 Comments

I'm really sick of this "remove limited" rhetoric. Limited is hugely popular. For me and almost everyone I play with it is the main way to play Magic. The people asking for its removal are claiming my favorite way to play magic matters less for no gain whatsoever for their way of playing. Can I reiterate that the biggest argument is *people like limited*?

There’s this false narrative that limited is preventing certain players from getting more of the designs they want. You are correct that limited is hugely popular.

World Tree's Development

New 03 Feb 2021 Asked by thisareorpresented 48 Comments

In Kaldheim part 2 article when you get to the world tree you just to reiterate/defend your/magics position on legendary land printing. Was there nothing else about the world trees development you could have shared? Was there any previous concepts or required changes made or even the thought because it wasn't going to get legendary changing the land all together?

Not everyone who reads my column reads this blog. For most, it was new information. That was the number one question (by far) I got about the tree, so that’s what I wrote about.

Arena Brawl Mode

New 03 Nov 2019 Asked by elvious-brightsword 80 Comments

Hey Maro, First time question Mark here. I'd just love to reiterate, in case it hasn't been said enough, that a constant arena brawl mode rather than once a week would really be appreciated. I'm a huge fan of both commander and brawl. I've noticed things like streamers creating large scale discord servers for constant play so clearly the demand is there. I appreciate you're work and how responsive you are to the community. Keep up the good work :)

I will definitely pass along the desire for Brawl to be a full-time thing. If you’d like to see that happen, try to play Brawl as much as you can when it’s available, because high play numbers will help this happen the fastest.

Modern Horizons Goals

New 02 Jun 2019 Asked by invisiblechannel 65 Comments

Casual modern? Can you please reiterate the goals of Modern Horizons?

The main goal was to create a more complex, nostalgia-rich supplemental set for the enfranchised players that enjoyed sets like Time Spiral. That also allowed us to make a set that went directly into Modern to allow us to design cards that are tricky to put into Standard, but we thought Modern players would enjoy.

Norse Squirrel Hopes

New 01 Dec 2016 Asked by judgeirenicus 97 Comments

Can I reiterate how much disappointed I will get should your Norse world not get a Legendary Creature - Squirrel in the sets? Ratatosk is one of the main and most beloved characters in Norse mythology.

I’d start preparing to be disappointed now.

Legendary Squirrel Logic

New 14 May 2016 Asked by skalastics-deactivated20171025 29 Comments

I have to reiterate; if there is a set in which a legendary squirrel would make flavor sense(Norse or Scandinavian inspired), not including a legendary squirrel would be highly disappointing. You only would have so many chances to do such a thing. Squirrel tribal is a long way from being a viable deck in any format, however the precedent has been set that squirrels are a thing in magic. I would also argue they make more sense than goats, which, for some reason have been pushed creatively. Why?

Squirrels have somehow become a symbol of something. That’s the only explanation on why we won’t do them on black border. We do sillier things from time to time.

Cats in White

New 09 Jul 2015 Asked by longtimegonemtgo 26 Comments

"Domesticated animals are White." Then I reiterate the question, why are cats white? ;)

The majority of cats are domesticated. Okay, and at least one is a Zombie. : )

Buyback Mechanic Issues

New 14 May 2014 Asked by evouga 24 Comments

What is the problem with buyback? It is 1) beloved by all psychographics, and 2) generally looks better than it is, which sounds perfect for a mechanic... Whispers of the Muse and Capsize were mistakes, but Reiterate, Fanning the Flames, Verdant Touch, Clockspinning, Corpse Dance, etc were all perfectly fun and balanced cards.

The problem is that it isn’t worse than it looks. Journey Into Nyx tried to bring it back and it was too good.

Designer Credit Limits

New 06 Jan 2014 Asked by voicesofchaos 25 Comments

What is your opinion on the "Designer Credit"? It strangely seems like a big hot issue with the new frame. Can you please reiterate that only a few cards will have them because it seems like people freaking out that we will never have flavor text again (Even though we have Wall of Fire)? Also could the designer credit really not fit in the bottom black boarder with the collector's info and copyright?

The designer credit is very limited and has a very specific use which we will explain as we get closer to Magic 2015. The vast amount of Magic cards will not have a designer credit.

TNN Gameplay Impact

New 03 Jan 2014 Asked by convergecrew 19 Comments

Hi mark, I know the hype has died down a bit but I just wanted to stress how much I dislike TNN and how much it negatively affects my legacy experiences. The games come down to "how do I prevent TNN from resolving" rather than playing the board state. Is there anyone in Development I can contact to reiterate my opinions?

R&D is well aware of the public’s feelings on True Name Nemesis and I believe it will impact how we act in the future.

Appreciation for Autographs

New 03 Sep 2012 Asked by jumboto-deactivated20160705 1 Comments

I know this isn't a question, but I wanted to reiterate my thanks for you signing my copy of Magic the Puzzling and signing my playset of Sorrow's Path at the RtR PAX Party.

Always happy to sign autographs and take pictures (which I did a lot of at the PAX party). I never grow tired of positive feedback.

Marks Brotherhood

New 10 May 2012 Asked by hamburgerboogie-deactivated2016 0 Comments

Not a question, more of a reiteration of how amazing you are as a person for being a part of something hundreds of thousands of people enjoy. And to reiterate how super cool we both are for having the name Mark. It's like being part of a Brotherhood.

There are more people right now working full-time on Magic named Mark than any other name (myself, Gottlieb, Globus, and Purvis).
