Fallen Empires Episode Interest

New 06 Jul 2024 Asked by thimofranke 1 Comments

I just listened to the Fallen Empires episode of drive to work and it made me think; two Mtg veterans (Cedric Phillips and Patrick Sullivan) are currently doing a video series in which they revisit every set ever produced on their Resleevables YT channel. Their last Episode was Exodus. I think it would be great and very fitting if they could interview you at some time.

Always happy to talk about Magic’s past.

Whale Trivia

New 09 May 2024 Asked by 0gl1tch0 57 Comments

Hello Mark! I turned 30 today.
Do you have any trivia about colossal whale, or whales in general?

The first Whale, with Whale printed on the card, was Killer Whale in Exodus. We had a larger creature (3/5) with an activated jump, so we liked the idea it was a sea creature jumping out of the water. I believe Killer Whale was its playtest name and it stayed.Happy 30th Birthday!

Potential Spikes Return

New 28 Nov 2023 Asked by casofsas 38 Comments

While Odyssey may be the Spike-iest set, Exodus has the most Spikes. What are the chances of more Spikes being printed in the future?

Spikes add a lot of board complexity. I think they’re most likely to return in something like a Modern Horizons set that has a higher complexity level.

Old Border Reprints

New 23 Sep 2023 Asked by purplerakath 27 Comments

Rather than Birthday trivia, I want to ask if there's an effort to move what cards only exist in old border to modern frame (barring natural complications like RL cards or 'this card's text box is unprintable now' cards)? And if so can I get a maybe on a Reconnaissance (the white Enchantment from Exodus) reprint?

Maybe. : )Happy Birthday!

Social Media Expansion Request

New 06 Aug 2023 Asked by anyguy 56 Comments

Since many (me included) move away from Twitter, could you forward the request to the social media team to make official content also available on mastodon etc.?

The exodus from Twitter has made things a lot more complicated. I’ll pass the request along.

Graveyard Order History

New 12 Jun 2023 Asked by judge-natedogg 39 Comments

Tempest Block was indeed the last block to print cards that cared about graveyard order - Tempest had Corpse Dance and Phyrexian Grimoire, and Stronghold had Volrath's Shapeshifter (Exodus did not have any).

That was my memory.

Animate Graveyard Clarification

New 15 Oct 2022 Asked by what-i-cant-hear-you 21 Comments

if I cast Animate Graveyard and have Mirri, Cat Warrior (from Exodus) in the graveyard, does my graveyard count as a Cat Warrior? Or does the fact that errata has put her types on the type line in later versions mean she no longer "has" that rules text?

Yeah, that stuff’s on the type line.

Expansion Symbol Confusion

New 08 Oct 2022 Asked by krinstranger 29 Comments

The Unfinity release notes state that cards before Exodus don't have expansion symbols, which came as quite a surprise to me! I think it's supposed to mean they don't have their rarity reflected in their expansion symbols...

I think it was supposed to reference rarity.

Exodus Nickname Mystery

New 04 May 2021 Asked by sauwa 46 Comments

Maro, why was Exodus nickname Gorgonzola?? i must know or else ill die

I chose that codename because it was a funny sounding word.

Birthday Trivia About Slivers

New 18 Apr 2021 Asked by rwssr 41 Comments

Hey Mark, it’s my birthday today. Can I get a birthday trivia factoid concerning either: Sliver Legion, Sliver Hivelord, Sliver Overlord, or The First Sliver?

Normally, when we put Slivers in a block we put in one legendary five-color Sliver, so in Future Sight (the end of Time Spiral block), I made one based on a card I designed in Exodus that I really liked called Coat of Arms. That’s how Sliver Legion came to be. Happy Birthday!

Coincidental Exodus Card Acronyms

New 16 Feb 2021 Asked by yellowfoliage 46 Comments

I've wondered about this for more than 20 years now: back in the day when jokey card names were more common (Telim'Tor et al) was it intentional that Exodus contained MoM and PoP (Mind over Matter and Price of Progress)?

Not that I was aware of, but maybe.

Mirri's Fate

New 10 Mar 2018 Asked by rainy-bluefoxie 55 Comments

Hello, Are we gonna see anything about Mirri in Dominaria? She's my favorite of the weatherlight crew. Also thanks for all the awesomeness that is Magic.

I have some bad news about Mirri. She died a long time ago in the middle of the Weatherlight Saga (in Exodus).

Reconnaissance Trivia

New 09 Jan 2018 Asked by noxialisrex 37 Comments

Hi Mark, yesterday was my Birthday! Can I get some trivia about my favorite non-Black card Reconnaissance?

I designed Reconnaissance in Exodus for players that get nervous when attacking. Happy Birthday!

Amonkhet Story Insights

New 20 Jul 2017 Asked by rhoxosgsaint 51 Comments

Isn't Amonkhet story too focused in Old Testament? I respect these but I want to see more of Egyption history and myths.

I had to study Exodus in Sunday School. Other than a couple plagues overlapping, the stories have nothing in common.

Dominating Licid Trivia

New 12 Jul 2017 Asked by pbrisbestbeer 26 Comments

My birthday was the other day. Can I get some trivia on a card recently bought, Dominating Licid?

There originally weren’t going to be any Licids in Exodus, but I designed Dominating Licid and everyone liked it so we put it in.Happy Birthday!

Real-World Inspirations

New 22 Jun 2017 Asked by subbak 29 Comments

Asked already but it didn't go through. The events, symbolism, and even a lot of the terminology used around HOU are very reminiscent of the bits of Exodus and Apocalypse that made it to popular culture. Isn't this in contradiction with your policy of not taking inspiration from real-world religions? (note that some of this could also apply to the Avacynian church on Innistrad)

We’re more likely to butt up against things from sources we’re much more aware of.

Exodus References

New 07 Jun 2017 Asked by darkterrorblade 75 Comments

Didn't you say you were specifically avoiding Exodus references? Because a river turning into blood is kind of a really overt reference.

Amonkhet proper avoided them. Hour of Devastation obviously did not.

Mirrodin's Return Reasoning

New 05 Mar 2017 Asked by superfantasticpiratecollection 54 Comments

Mirrodin was one of the most broken sets and caused a huge exodus of players. Why did we return to it and why was it received well in market research?

People liked the world and mechanics. They didn’t like the degenerate Standard environment.

Lim Dul Speculation

New 20 Dec 2016 Asked by mrpopogod 31 Comments

So should we be expecting Lim Dul to join the Gatewatch in Amonkhet?

And all the Exodus Oaths as well. : )

Shadow Mechanic Trivia

New 18 Dec 2016 Asked by dace67 38 Comments

Birthday question time: Do you have any trivia on the Shadow mechanic or any random card from Exodus?

The Shafow mechanic was originally called Astral and was from Mike Elliott’s homemade set (from before he joined Wizards) called Astral Ways. Slivers also came from that design.Happy Birthday!
