Chaos Confetti Interaction

New 23 Sep 2022 Asked by dolbyzalo 29 Comments

Say I have March of the Machines and Chaos Confetti in play, and I cast Mobile Clone, targeting Chaos Confetti. If I then activate the ability of the phone creature artifact, do I have to destroy my phone?

You are allowed to represent the copy token with a Magic card at any point, so you can use that during the activation of Chaos Confetti.

Possibility of Chaos Confetti Reprint

New 16 Jul 2022 Asked by elmarcodepico 54 Comments

Can I get a "maybe" on a Chaos Confetti reprint someday? I'm running out of copies!

I’m skeptical that’s going to happen. That card is unpopular.

Cryptic Spires Comparison

New 18 Jun 2022 Asked by caitsith4 37 Comments

Re: Cryptic Spires. It feels a little disingenuous to start comparing a common tapland (less powerful than a guildgate) with similar rarity to a basic land to Chaos Confetti, etc. Can we limit handwringing about the subject to maybe cool feedback that takes the facts into account, maybe just this once? It feels like people are just trying to troll you sometimes.

Some players are trying to troll me every day. : )

'Un-cards' in Digital Format

New 08 Oct 2021 Asked by ihaveaten 20 Comments

"I’m not sure what the black border rules can handle that a computer can’t. " Chaos Confetti/Comet type stuff, presumably.

If we’re talking about Un-cards, there’s all sorts of tings we can do that a computer can’t. The question was about black border.

Silver versus Black Bordered Cards

New 10 Jul 2021 Asked by bassimelwakil 138 Comments

After looking at the responses to my “set with both silver and black bordered cards” ask, I genuinely think the nay-sayers never saw or played with Unstable. The three main mechanics of the set are all completely fine for black bordered play. They do not have rules issues. They do not require dexterity. They don’t care about weird traits like set symbols. They are mechanics directly in black border now. Host/Augment is Mutate. Contraptions are Dungeons. Dice rolling is dice rolling. Modern Horizons 2 even had a Squirrel tribal theme! Yet people think silver bordered means Chaos Confetti and Volrath’s Motion Sensor. It’s as out of touch and removed from the reality of the game as thinking “I don’t want to play black border, it’s too competitive because of all the ante cards and it’s all just counterspells and lightning bolts anyway.”

I agree.

Gotcha Scale for Ripping Cards

New 16 Sep 2020 Asked by thasgar 47 Comments

Where does ripping cards (Blacker Lotus and Chaos Confetti) fall on the Gotcha Scale?

A 10. They were pretty behated.

Unpopular Cards Insight

New 09 Nov 2019 Asked by mrpopogod 118 Comments

"our research shows players aren’t fond of permanently defacing their Magic cards" - You mean there aren't a lot of Ironman Magic playgroups anymore?

No. Fun story. We did market research on Unglued. I was told that the two most unpopular cards were Blacker Lotus and Chaos Confetti by a large margin. The data people doing the market research said that they cross referenced all the various elements - art, name, flavor text - but couldn’t find any correlative connection between these two cards. I said, “Don’t worry. I got it.”

Set and Playmat Joy

New 09 Apr 2018 Asked by sadcryingclown 25 Comments

Thanks for fighting to make Dominaria awesome! Also just got my playmat, time to rebuild my The Cheese Stands Alone deck (The trick is that I sprinkle Chaos Confetti all over my own stuff)

I’m happy to hear you like the set and the playmat.

Chaos Confetti Interaction

New 19 Nov 2017 Asked by ned-of-the-net 23 Comments

What happens when chaos confetti lands on an augment card but not the host?

When an Augment card is augmented to a Host it’s one creature. Whatever happens to part of it happens to all of it.

Slaying Mantis Mechanic

New 15 Nov 2017 Asked by sundayswiththeilluminati 35 Comments

Unstable design question! "Just a second" on Slaying Mantis is a great riff on "Split second," but I'm curious: did you also add that ability to avoid a repeat of ruling on whether a player can move their permanents around in response to Chaos Orb/Chaos Confetti?

Yes, just a second was designed to avoid the “in response, I move my stuff” answer to a physically thrown card.

Blacker Lotus Legacy

New 16 Feb 2017 Asked by danvogelsong 40 Comments

Have you thought of return the self destructive element of Blacker Lotus to limited commons in a desire to combat collection creep?

Blacker Lotus was the number one most disliked card on Unglued according to our market research. Chaos Confetti was number two.

Blacker Lotus Interaction

Pretty sure Processors and graveyard shenanigans can't touch a used Blacker Lotus or Chaos Confetti.

Fine point.

Token Tearing Mechanics

New 24 Oct 2015 Asked by mcsleuthburger 33 Comments

Do you think people would like cards that tear things like tokens specifically made to be torn when you use the card? Like day chaos confetti has a tear a confetti token clause instead of tearing the card itself?

My research has basically said people do not enjoy ripping up their own cards.

Chaos Confetti Interpretation

New 24 Oct 2015 Asked by anarchypete 15 Comments

Regarding Chaos Confetti and crew, what if I were to make the cards cry or become inconsolable, and thus interpreting the cards as just having poor grammar. Maybe I could convince them that people want to tear them up, so they would tear up at the notion of people wanting to tear them up and discard them?

If you can get actual tears out of them, more power to you. : )

Correct Tearing Method

New 24 Oct 2015 Asked by magicjudge 29 Comments

Un-rules question: Can I "tear" Chaos Confetti and/or Blacker Lotus into a single piece when I use their abilities?

That is not “tearing” under even the loosest of definitions.

Least Loved Un-Set Cards

New 24 Oct 2015 Asked by kerrjf 48 Comments

Do you have any idea what Un-set card players hate the most?

Market research of Unglued showed that Blacker Lotus and Chaos Confetti were by far the least liked individual cards. The market research said they checked against all the different factors - title, art, flavor text - and couldn’t find what linked the cards. “Don’t worry,” I said, “I cracked it.” : ) So what do Un-players dislike the most? Ripping up their cards.

Un-sets' Impact

New 08 Aug 2015 Asked by theangrymongoose 32 Comments

Around '98 '99 my brother collected the game and I played occasionally with him. He described some crazy cards to me (Chaos Confetti, The Cheese Stands Alone and later AWOL). I didn't know these were joke cards at the time so, a decade later when I was reminded of the game, I already knew how awesome it is. I'm walking evidence that Un-sets sell MtG.

Black Border in Silver

New 28 May 2015 Asked by nobthehobbit 26 Comments

"Are black border cards legal in a silver border tournament?" "Absolutely. In fact, encouraged." Hold on a sec, doesn't that run afoul of the "no destroying your opponent's cards" rule? If I stick a Take Possession on my opponent's Chaos Confetti, I could then tear up my opponent's card.

You don’t need black border cards to create that problem. Mirror Mirror, for example can do it. If you play Chaos Confetti or Blacker Lotus you run the risk of it being ripped up not by you.

Chaos Confetti Explanation

New 25 Jul 2014 Asked by davidgiven 33 Comments

The local Mormon elders, who cannot use the internet for recreation while on their missions sent me the following question: Hey is there really a magic card called Chaos Confetti? And if so, what does it do? Which broke my irony dampeners.

It is an Unglued card you rip up and toss the pieces. It destroys any card a piece touches.

Split Card Concept

New 01 Jan 2014 Asked by veenilla 12 Comments

What about split permanent cards in an Un-set, where you have to cut them in half when they resolve?

Unglued’s market research showed us that players don’t like destroying their cards. Blacker Lotus was the most unliked card and Chaos Confetti was #2 most unliked.
