Raise the Alarm

Improving Raise the Alarm

Is there room to make a strictly better raise the alarm?

Not a play designer. My gut is yes, but not by a lot.

Against Tribal Errata

New 19 Apr 2023 Asked by mysticleviathan 40 Comments

I wish you’d bring back tribal and errata older cards. Make the criteria simple: If the name kf the card has a creature type’s name in it, eg Goblin Grenade, Dragon Arch, Demonic Tutor, or if the card mechanically cares about the creature type, eg The Hive should be Insect tribal, Whirlermaker should be Servo tribal, Raise the Alarm should be soldier tribal. You guys did a giant creature type update in the past so mass erata isn’t foreign territory.

It adds a lot of words on cards for minimal mechanical relevance.

Possibility of Non-Human Tokens

New 04 Dec 2021 Asked by danco110 71 Comments

If generic 1/1 white Soldier creature tokens from Raise the Alarm and other sources don’t count as humans (for purposes of Winota, mutate, Sigarda’s lord ability, etc.), is there a possibility of seeing tokens that depict leonin, kithkin, kor, or others as the set dictates?

Yes, future Raise the Alarms could picture non-Humans.

Sorceries vs Instant Tokens

New 11 Jun 2016 Asked by gutturalcoprolalia 34 Comments

Why are dragon fodder and Krenko's command sorceries but raise the alarm an instant? Design or development?

White gets to be more defensive this it gets token making at instant speed. That’s not design or development. That’s color pie.

Green's Token Production

New 02 Aug 2015 Asked by jyhwk865 25 Comments

Is it possible for Green to get a token making instant like Dragon Fodder or Raise the Alarm, but making elves instead of goblins or soldiers?

We’ve moved away from Green making small tokens as a single effect so while possible it’s unlikely.

Silver-Border Usage

New 17 Dec 2014 Asked by calintares 19 Comments

Silver-Border question: can you use Mishra's Toy Factory to cast Cloudgoat Ranger? how about Elspeth, Knight Errant?

Mishra’s Toy Workshop can only be used to cast spells and activate abilities that actively are making tokens. You cannot use it, for example, to cast a creature (let’s say Phelddagrif) that has the ability to make tokens. You could though use it on the activation that makes them. So, casting Raise the Alarm, yes. Casting Doubling Season, no.

Token Creatures Count

New 25 Oct 2013 Asked by yeef 14 Comments

You've said in the past that you typically try to give white and then green more creatures in a set and blue and red fewer creatures. When working on this balance, do you count token producers, like Hive Stirrings and Raise the Alarm as creatures?

Yes, spells making tokens count as creatures for creature count purposes. Interestingly, creatures with defender do not.

Thatcher Revolt Inquiry

New 29 Apr 2012 Asked by cautrell 1 Comments

I pulled two Thatcher Revolts for my RGW deck at our local prerelease. On two or three occasions, it was critical to establishing early control of the board. Like other cards of its kind (Even the Odds, Join the Ranks, Raise the Alarm, etc.), it also promises to be great fun in Casual Constructed. Is there a Color Pie reason for White and Green to get the vast majority of such cards, and either way, are we likely to see more in Red, even if they have certain drawbacks compared with W & G?

The key for this being red is the temporary nature (along with haste) of the token creatures. As I love Thatcher Revolt, I’m lookking for places to use this again.
