Prospects of Conspiracies in UB Set

New 20 Jul 2024 Asked by tmdoublezero 0 Comments

Do you think we could see conspiracies in a UB set or are draft only cards too weird for a product that is also trying to attract new players?

I’ll call it a longshot. It is pretty complex if you’re new to the game.

Conspiracies Card Type

New 12 Mar 2024 Asked by kilo-pascal 21 Comments

Do you think we'll see Conspiracies (the card type) again? They're one of my favorite things in my cube.

I think there’s a chance. It might not necessarily be tied to multiplayer play though.

Mystery Boosters Conspiracies

New 21 Dec 2023 Asked by tmdoublezero 25 Comments

Out of curiosity, did WotC consider adding Conspiracies back when putting together the mystery boosters?

I was uninvolved with the Mystery Boosters (other than design a couple of playtest cards), so I don’t know.

Conspiracy Card Legality

New 21 Nov 2023 Asked by thasgar 34 Comments

If Conspiracies were acorn/silver border, wouldn't that make it so that they would not be legal in strictly non-acorn cubes?

Cubes have no inherent legality. Designers can include whatever cards they wish.

Conspiracies as Acorn

New 20 Nov 2023 Asked by futuristicenemydonut 43 Comments

Why do you think Conspiracies should have been acorn?

They had to be banned. There’s technology to ban them without having to write all their names on a list.

Silver Border Acorn

New 20 Nov 2023 Asked by delicateturtleangel 31 Comments

"That’s basically silver borders/acorn which is what Conspiracies should have been."Isn't a big distinction between silver border/acorn and regular black border, their interaction with the rules? You can throw in a pack of Conspiracy in any draft (Chaos or regular) and all rulings involving the draft-matter cards will 100% comply with the rules of the game. A lot of them can even be played in eternal format. Since you didn't draft them, some of their effects don't do a thing, but they still work. (It wasn't drafted, so no cards were revealed this way for instance).

Conspiracies had to be banned from constructed formats. There’s no reason to do that when we have technology that does it without having to gum up a banned list.

Limited Watermark Use

New 20 Nov 2023 Asked by delicateturtleangel 29 Comments

About watermark matter in black-border:What about a supplemental set with cards that care about watermarks, but only in limited games of that set?Kinda like Conspiracy, but it doesn't need to have cards that matter while drafting (not that it couldn't)

That’s basically silver borders/acorn which is what Conspiracies should have been.

Draft Matters Possibility

New 05 Aug 2023 Asked by heleor 56 Comments

Conspiracies aside, do you think more "draft matters" mechanics are an if or a when?

They’re an if, but I’d like them to be a when. I think they’re more likely to show up in a product aimed at two-player play than multiplayer, as the biggest fans of draft tend to prefer two-player games.

Conspiracies Return Potential

New 05 Aug 2023 Asked by notmakingablog71 43 Comments

Do you think we'll ever see conspiracies come back?

I feel it’s possible, but pretty far from a certainty.

Conspiracy Cards Future

New 17 Mar 2023 Asked by j-waffles 30 Comments

In the same way bonus sheets are legal in limited but not standard, could we see something similar with conspiracies in a non-conspiracy set?

Conspiracies are core to any set that’s using them. I do think we might use something like acorn technology if we do them again, so we don’t have to list them all on a ban list.

Accounting Bamboozling Theories

New 20 Jul 2022 Asked by caitsith4 23 Comments

What if accounting bamboozled you and photoshopped together a fake check??? How do you know Mark, how do you know!? Conspiracies abound!!

It’s a lot of work to save a dollar, but maybe.

Considerations on Conspiracy Cards

New 10 Apr 2022 Asked by blazinjsin 23 Comments

"I believe Conspiracies would have been acorn if that technology existed at the time" can we get more since they are black border? Conspiracy was a really fun set, so was Battlebond for that matter. A lot of us want more of those specifically.

Whether or not we mark the conspiracies as acorn or just list them as banned/make them unlegal in every constructed format doesn’t affect whether or not we’ll make more.

Conspiracy Cards and Acorn Technology

New 10 Apr 2022 Asked by natew000 30 Comments

Conspiracies work perfectly fine inside the black border rules in the format they’re designed for. Do you think maybe it would be a confusing message for players if conspiracies were printed as acorn just to effectively ban them from formats that can’t use them?

They’re already banned or not legal in every heavily played constructed format. Using acorn technology just means not having to list them as being banned.

Future of One-Off Acorn Cards

New 10 Apr 2022 Asked by thisisanuncreativeusername 28 Comments

RE: Conspiracies being black border - Does the acorn stamp technology increase the liklihood of one-off acorn cards/mechanics in otherwise fully black border supplemental sets (for drafting, etc.)?

Time will tell.

Potential Card Updates

New 09 Apr 2022 Asked by moonsliceman 26 Comments

Great podcast about silver border / acorn, especially the point about casual play coming before the formalized rules. There are a lot of cards that are exceptionally complicated in errata in order to make them work (Shahrazad, Raging River, Camouflage), or have to be banned from vintage to stay in black border (conspiracies). Do you think its possible to errata those cards into silver border / acorn?

I believe Conspiracies would have been acorn if that technology existed at the time.

Legal Conspiracies Introduction

New 01 Apr 2022 Asked by sneakyscarab 29 Comments

I heard that New Capenna is coming out with not only the first standard-legal Conspiracies, but also Conspiracy Creatures, is this true??

Absolutely. All the Leprechauns are Conspiracy creatures, half are compleated.

Rethinking Card Border Placement

New 09 Dec 2021 Asked by stormtide-leviathan 40 Comments

What is the most recent card you can think of that was printed in black border but probably should have been silver border/acorn

All the Conspiracies.

Spike and Conspiracy Cards

New 16 Nov 2021 Asked by pascal314 27 Comments

Regarding Spike, Tournament Grinder and conspiracy cards: wouldn't the last part of rule 314.3 [Conspiracy cards that aren't in the game can't be brought into the game] prevent Spike from bringing a conspiracy card into the game in the first place? Or does silver-bordered land not care about such paltry restrictions?

No, silver border does care about things like that, so I guess Spike can’t get Conspiracies.

Scheme Plane Border Logic

New 24 Mar 2019 Asked by dalenthas 29 Comments

Do you think whatever color border Conspiracies should've had should also be applied to Archenemy schemes or Planechase planes? Also, what color would you pick if it were up to you?

Schemes and Planes are a different size, so they don’t need a different border.

Conspiracy Frame Color

New 24 Mar 2019 Asked by mynameisfourteen 30 Comments

"Conspiracies should have had a new frame color." I've argued with some that Conspiracies should have been silver bordered. Can you explain why a new color would be better for them than silver?

Silver border has connotations beyond “can’t be played in tournaments”.
