Intuition

Color Pie Intuition

New 16 Mar 2024 Asked by j-waffles 32 Comments

Intuition is a blue card, and I feel like it’s a safe guess to say that intuition would be in pie for black. But what about green? Green is allowed to do some self mill stuff, so it feels like it would be a bend? Or would it have to only get creatures to be fair game for green?

The way we’re interacting with impulse effects (look at top N cards of a library, take <blah> and then put the rest in the bottom of the library in random order) colorpiewise is treating them like we would tutoring effects. Green can tutor for lands and/or creatures, so it can impulse for them. This is mostly due to us trying to lessen shuffling effects.

Intuition would be in pie for black right?

Yes, in the sense that we’re trying to use top of library instead of tutoring more.

Intuition Template Issue

New 22 Jan 2023 Asked by su92 23 Comments

I think it's weird that Intuition was allowed to remain as it is (you can search 3 of the same card), given that it was a template mistake compared to what design wanted. Is there another case where a card was used in a non-intuitive way before it came out?

I did point out the template violated my design intent, but the rest of R&D liked it. That’s why it stayed.

Keywording Benefits

New 26 Nov 2022 Asked by atheisttalk 45 Comments

I know you get asked a lot about if something could be "keyword"ed. Do you know why people want this? I believe it is because people want a shortcut in their head, but fail to see that beginners would require that headspace for other things. Writing out "enters the battlefield" or "sacrifice at the beginning of the next end step" don't require extra knowledge, but Vigilance and Menace do (without the reminder text)

Keywording simplifies text for those already familiar with the concepts. When you can keyword with something that intuitively makes sense (“dies” means a creature goes to the graveyard), it can do the same work without causing extra burden for the new player, but it has to really play into intuition.

Designing Cards for EDH

Hello Mark, when you guys make a card that is broken in EDH is it planned? (Example: Containment Construct pairs w/Artificer’s Intuition and Lion’s Eye Diamond)

I think “broken” is a high bar, especially in an eternal format. We have lots of designers that think about Commander, but there are a *lot* of potential card interactions, so sometimes.

Intuition's Colour Combination

Hi Mark, I listened to your podcast about the two colours combination and was wandering what colour combination you think intuition is?

Intuition is probably green/blue.

Trivia on Intuition and Gifts Ungiven

New 20 Mar 2020 Asked by subwayray 58 Comments

I shall tap 44 mana to play "Birthday Trivia" on my turn. 'Target Maro must search thru his deck and reveal information pertaining to my favorite card, Gifts Ungiven. If he cannot, he is forced to give up trivia on the Storm mechanic itself.' :)

When I designed Intuition (in Tempest), the intent was you had to pick all different cards, but I didn’t write it clear enough and people were picking the same card. I pointed out that wasn’t what I intended, but they were enjoying the card as it was so they wouldn’t change it. Gifts Given was me redoing Intuition that way I intended it to play. Happy Birthday!
