Prizes in Non-acorn Attractions

New 21 Jul 2024 Asked by tameryourentertainer 4 Comments

I'm interested in why there is only one non-acorn attraction that you can claim a prize from. Was this unintentional or was there a reason?

The cards were designed a ways before the decision to make the ones that could be Eternal legal, Eternal legal, so we just converted what we could. The main criteria at determining Eternal legality was “can it work in the rules?”. The one wrinkle was the Teddy Bear token that was a prize for some Attractions was pink and the rules don’t handle pink as a color. We’d already made the token and were using Water Gun Balloon Game as a promo and it also used the same pink Teddy Bear token which kept us from changing its color.

Understanding 'Each Color' in Acorn Games

New 13 Jun 2024 Asked by eredithdriscol 4 Comments

Per culation's ask about "each color" in acorn games, would having Water Gun Balloon Game or Sword of Dungeons and Dragons, which reference pink and gold but aren't those colors themselves, count for those colors being "active"?What about if I had Avatar of Me in the graveyard (and brown eyes)?

To count an additional color you have to have a permanent of that color on the battlefield, not just a permanent that refers to it.

Teddy Bear Tokens

New 24 Sep 2022 Asked by sobek16 44 Comments

Why did you make cards have pink teddy bear tokens if they could have been a “regular” magic color and this eternal legal?

The eternal decision was made late and the Teddy Bear token frame and art were done and we’d already chosen Water Gun Balloon Game as our release day promo and it has a pink Teddy Bear creature token (although 5/5). We did look to swap the Teddy Bear to cards that were already acorn. There unfortunately wasn’t another good token choice for either Gift Shop or Push Your Luck.

Unfinity Marketing Feedback

New 30 Jul 2022 Asked by bassimelwakil 56 Comments

Hi, I just wanted to say, as someone who’s always loved silver border, and was super excited for Unfinity, and even suggested on this blog that un-sets should be a mix of silver and black border, I’m currently very unenthused about unifinity. I’d like to explain why:While I personally think an un-set being a mix of black and silver border is great, putting the distinction as a small holo stamp, rather than the clearer borders has resulted in a continuous series of misconceptions. Each preview for unfinity has shown the same card with both the acorn and the regular stamp. The first preview had a silver border reprint with the regular stamp. Magar had both. To make it worse, some cards, like Far Out, have an acorn stamp yet feel like they should work in black border while stickers is apparently going to be eternal-playable. The errors and the lack of clarity of what effects can/can’t be acorn, means people are unable to trust the previews they’re seeing as being accurate. This results in the discussion only being about the eternal legality of cards instead of what’s fun and how things play. The reason for my lack of enthusiasm is not due to anything in the set, rather, the marketing, whoever was in charge of these previews, has so mismanaged the set that instead of exciting me - a silver border player - I am significantly less excited than I was. I have to actively remind myself that you’re excited for a reason and take it on faith in you and the rest of the design team, while the previews continue to put me off.I hope as the set gets closer to release, this will change, because I want to support un-sets. But the marketing has really lost me. I am genuinely surprised at how much it has affected my anticipation. So surprised I felt compelled to tell you in the hopes you can pass this on to the right people so they learn from their mistakes.Thank you.

There have only been two mistakes, and it’s the same mistake (showing the wrong security symbol). When we make files, we make a version we use to show online (we call them HRR’s, but I have no idea what that stands for). Unfinity is the first set where the security stamp is a field that needs to be proofed on the HRR, and the system just wasn’t set up to do that proofing, because it dwasn’t a thing we had to worry about. We’ve now changed our process, so it is. Again, Magar of the Magic Strings is eternal and Water Gun Balloon Game is acorn. Everything else was what it said it was.Things like Far Out just demonstrate how fuzzy the line is between acorn and eternal. It often relies on minute details that the average player isn’t aware of, but that doesn’t mean on our end there isn’t clarity. I do believe when you get to see the full set, you’ll be excited. I just had to proof collation, which meant I opened up actual boost packs and it just reminded me how excited I am for the set. Un-sets just let us do things we normally can’t and the design team really had fun tapping into cool spaces.

Water Gun Balloon Game Misunderstanding

New 24 Dec 2021 Asked by shyflops 28 Comments

"It’s one of the issues that has to be figured out before we could consider reprinting a silver border card as an eternal black border card. I don’t know the answer. " Isn't Water Gun Balloon Game already doing that? or am I mistaken

Water Gun Ballon Game has an acorn symbol. The initial image with the oval in the article was a mistake. That’s not what the printed card will have.

Unfinity Set Reprints

Unfinity doesn't have reprints? Isn't Water Gun Balloon Game a reprint tho?

That’s the prerelease promo, it’s not in the set.

Issues in Revealing Cards

New 03 Dec 2021 Asked by greg502 36 Comments

Do you feel there are more flubs in revealing cards recently? e.g. Bloodvial Purveyor missing an "until end of turn" and Water Gun Balloon Game having the wrong stamp for the preview image initially

We’re working on getting a better system for generating images for articles. I don’t want to get too technical, but cards are generated from many components and articles have to properly collect all of them in a way that’s a little different than how we print them. It’s one of those things that is way more difficult behind the scenes than you might think.

Potential Pink 6th Color

So if Magic got a 6th color for Black border, would it now be Pink?

Water Gun Balloon Game is acorn, not eternal.

Art Design for Water Gun Balloon Game

New 30 Nov 2021 Asked by zanthr 27 Comments

Is there a reason the new art for Water Gun Balloon Game doesn't have a space on the card for each number for both players?

We gave the artist freedom to draw the best image and that’s what he drew. We realized we only needed one track for players to monitor (and we’re using the eye as the 0 as the reminder text says).

Discussion on New Color

New 29 Nov 2021 Asked by cwolfe114 42 Comments

So pink is a new color?

No. Water Gun Balloon Game is going to be printed with an acorn security stamp. The original picture in the article was in error.

Water Gun Balloon Game Misprint

New 29 Nov 2021 Asked by annorax 31 Comments

The preview of the release promo Water Gun Balloon Game has an oval stamp and a black border. Will that promo be actually printed with an acorn stamp? As printed, it technically legalizes the original silver-bordered printing of Water Gun Balloon Game in the Eternal formats, which calls back to why The Cheese Stands Alone couldn't be reprinted in Eighth Edition.

The original card image in the article (which I think has been fixed) was in error. The printed card will have an acorn security stamp.

Silver Border Rules

Silver border rule question. If I play coalition victory in silver border, do I need to control a pink(water gun balloon game) creature to make it work?

No.

Token Interaction Rules

New 24 Nov 2016 Asked by ace-hobo 12 Comments

Un-rules question: How do effects like Doubling Season or Proliferate work with Water Gun Balloon Game?

They don’t. The token is just a marker so getting extra tokens doesn’t do anything.

Sixth Color in Un-set

New 05 Oct 2016 Asked by befunge 39 Comments

There's already been a sixth color in an Un-set. Water Gun Balloon Game makes a pink creature token.

And Avatar of Me turns all eye colors into colors.

Un-Rules Color Mana

Un-Rules question: If I control the Giant Teddy Bear from Water Gun Balloon Game and a brown Avatar of Me (my eyes are brown) and then I tap Bloom Tender (from Eventide), will Bloom Tender provide me with pink and brown mana?

Yes it will. Use it wisely.

Un-Rules Pop! Counter

New 10 Oct 2015 Asked by captainslams 15 Comments

Un-rules question. If I have a B-I-N-G-O, and then a player plays a Water Gun Balloon Game, can I put my pop! counter on the 0 on the B-I-N-G-O? The one directly below a 5?

No. The Pop! counter goes on a 0 on Water Gun Balloon Game.

Seventh Color Hypothetical

New 30 Sep 2015 Asked by thatnoelguy 35 Comments

During Time Spiral you guys almost made purple... regardless of history, if you could pick a colour to be "the" seventh colour, what would it be? (Water Gun Balloon Game already added pink)

You forgot that Avatar of Me (from Unhinged) added all eye colors such as Brown and Hazel.

Sixth Color Addition

New 18 Apr 2015 Asked by spadesslick 21 Comments

Could the theoretical third Un-Set have pink as the sixth color? It was introduced in Unhinged's Water Gun Balloon Game, and so already exists in Un-sets. And let's not even get into the possible colors for Avatar of Me.

I see no immediate need to make a sixth color.

Mana Color Query

New 14 Nov 2014 Asked by pyromancy-inc 27 Comments

You keep saying that the design team throws around the idea of a sixth color of mana. But wouldn't it be 7th because you can already add pink mana to your pool with water gun balloon game and bloom tender?

If you’re counting Un-set colors there’s a lot more than one. Avatar of Me (from Unhinged), for example, turns every eye color into a color.
