Ghost's Color Identity

New 08 Jul 2018 Asked by unclewiker 31 Comments

In Ant-Man and the Wasp, what is the color identity of Ghost?

The movie version is essentially a different character than the comics version. I’d say the movie character is black/red.

The Hive Token Change

New 16 Feb 2018 Asked by pneumatichugdispenser-blog 45 Comments

Hi Mark, I've been reading the wording on some old Limited Edition cards for fun and was wondering why the name of the tokens The Hive makes got changed from "Giant Wasp" to "Wasp"? I think it was before your time at Wizards, but I was hoping you could shed some light on this for me.

Because they’re not Giants and we didn’t want Giant tribal affecting them.

Green's Hornet/Bee Dilemma

New 09 Jul 2016 Asked by emelica 211 Comments

Do you think there will ever be a time where Green has had so many Hornet/Bee/Wasp cards that they're no longer considered color pie violations but rather as a regular part of Green's slice?

Not while I’m alive. If I’m found dead covered in bee stings, you all are responsible to telling the authorities foul play was involved.

Gatewatch Story Expansion

New 31 Mar 2016 Asked by kevinthewaterman 59 Comments

As the Gatewatch expands, can we eventually see stories where the Origins 5 are either absent or peripheral, sort of how Justice League Unlimited often did stories not featuring the original members from Justice League?

Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant Man and the Wasp are not in every Avengers story.

Drop of Honey History

New 20 Jan 2015 Asked by thesilvernoble 48 Comments

Miss Piggy? More likable as a r/b figure? Than who? I can't stand her! I'd take a date with The Joker over her any day. Do you have any trivia on Drop of Honey?

This wins for most “non sequitur” post of the day. Drop of Honey for those of you interested in history was the first time wasp/hornet/bee flavor was used to break the color pie in Green.

Hybrid Mana Thoughts

New 05 Dec 2014 Asked by x--i--v 12 Comments

Would it make you feel better if deathtouch wasps were hybrid mana costed with something like black?

Hybrid cards still go into monocolor decks. They have to do things that color can do.

White Hornet Sting Concept

New 20 Sep 2013 Asked by loreleywrites 23 Comments

If Hornet Sting cost W and only did damage to an attacking or blocking creature (because they kicked the hornet's nest), I assume that would be ok with you. Like ants, hornets/wasps/bees/etc. have highly organized colonies. And hey, they're small fliers. Maybe White's characteristic race should be Beefolk. :-)

That would be fine as that’s something white gets to mechanically do. I’m fine with hive insets being in white.

Brushwagg's Unique Type

New 07 Jul 2012 Asked by heroes182 6 Comments

How did Brushwagg manage to retain its wacky creature type when all the Guardians, Heroes, Wasps, Butterflies, etc fell under the wheels of the Great Creature Type Update?

It is the true power of the Brushwagg.

Misjudged Cards

New 15 May 2012 Asked by bobmcfaceshield 5 Comments

When you first started playing magic, was there a card you thought was great and later learned that it sucked? I know that I loved Island Fish Jasconius because it was the second biggest creature my dad owned (second to Colossus of Sardia. My first ever deck was blue and terrible).

When I first started playing I thought The Hive was the bee’s knees (okay, maybe the wasp’s knees). I was so excited to open one because I knew no one would ever trade it to me.
