Parallel Lives in Red?

New 07 Jul 2023 Asked by j-waffles 34 Comments

Would a parallel lives effect be in pie for red? Red likes going wide with tokens, so it seems like it should be

Maybe if the copies had haste and were sacrificed at end of turn.

Red Artifacts Question

New 05 Feb 2023 Asked by forestd3w 26 Comments

Can Red have a Parallel Lives for artifacts? If the answer is no(because of creatures), can it for non-creature tokens?

The ability would be blue or white, not red. They both care more about artifacts.

Blue Token Doubles

New 05 Feb 2023 Asked by blazinjsin 26 Comments

"Second my question, could blue have a card that doubles all your non creature tokens? Similar to anointed procession or parallel lives." "Maybe it could double your artifact tokens." There's a few ways to make enchantment or land tokens too, it would be cool to include them in it

Blue’s not the color to double lands or enchantments.

Artifact Token Doubling

Hey, first congrats on the induction, you really deserve it. Second my question, could blue have a card that doubles all your non creature tokens? Similar to anointed procession or parallel lives.

Maybe it could double your artifact tokens.

Red Enchantment for Artifact Tokens

New 13 Jun 2022 Asked by forestd3w 41 Comments

Can red get an enchantment that doubles artifact tokens created? A sort of red Parallel Lives/Annoited Procession but only for artifacts.

Not sure that’s red. If they got haste and went away at end of turn, we could talk.

Green's Go-Wide Effects

New 05 Jun 2021 Asked by tylerja-blog 35 Comments

Not to dispute your rationale, but out of curiosity, why _does_ green get 'go-wide' effects like chatterfang, parallel lives et al, when phasing those out of green would help establish a more robust mechanical difference bw the two?

Green is number two in going wide. Green/white’s main archetype is going wide. We want it in both colors. There might be places to make more separation, but this one isn’t it.

White's Token Copying Capability

New 05 Jun 2021 Asked by blaze-1013 51 Comments

"Token copying is probably the most white is getting, and even that is infrequent." I am honestly pretty disappointed by this. Second Harvest really feels like something white should be able to do. The fact that green seems to have priority over white for that and token doubling effects like Parallel Lives honestly greatly undercuts white supposedly being the best color at go wide tokens.

I think white can have a Parallel Lives effect.

White's Token Creation Potential

New 25 Dec 2020 Asked by sailorforce 46 Comments

May I request more cards that increase token production, especially in white? Also, please more reprints of Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, Primal Vigor, and Annointed Procession?

I agree white should be the best at small token creation.

Pippa's Die Tokens

New 06 Feb 2020 Asked by ryder6six6 33 Comments

Un- rules question: do effects like Doubling Season and Parallel Lives affect Pippa's Die tokens? Would the copy have the same value as the originals roll? If so, can her reroll ability reroll token copies? Thanks.

The copy would have the same value. Make a 3/3, get another 3/3. It would be another die creature, so it could later be rerolled.

C19 Deck Building Limits

New 09 Aug 2019 Asked by donenzone 44 Comments

Could you please explain to us why anointed procession and parallel lives were not reprinted in the c19 populate deck? They were needed reprints that were a perfect fit.

There are a lot of factors and restrictions that go into building a fixed deck product. For instance, the inclusion of one card can often keep you from including certain other cards, so a delicate balance has to be reached.

Doubling Effects in Standard

New 16 Feb 2019 Asked by wifuehvbw-blog 48 Comments

Hi Mark! When Parallel Lives rotated out of standard, we had to wait 6 years until Anointed Procession was printed to have the "create twice the tokens!" effect back in standard. Will we have to wait that long to have that effect back in standard?

I’ll keep making doubling effects, but I can’t guarantee set design keeps them in the sets.

Doubling Season Origin

New 04 Jun 2017 Asked by couchguypho 35 Comments

Can you explain how the design of Doubling Season came about and why there have been neutered versions (Parallel Lives and Anointed Procession) being printed instead of reprints?

It came about because it was a card I wanted to have. Luckily, a lot of players felt the way I did. The card, which predates planeswalkers, is too good with loyalty so we’ve made newer versions that capture pieces of it without hitting loyalty.

Deck Naming Fun

New 26 May 2017 Asked by jacethebeltsculptor 66 Comments

Happy birthday, Mark! A bit of trivia- I have a Modern deck called Rosewater's Fury, which plays Panharmonicon and Parallel Lives alongside ETB creatures that create tokens.

Sounds like Rosewater’s Delight.

Parallel Lives Intent

New 24 Nov 2016 Asked by straxaerioeragous 28 Comments

Was parallel lives a chance at making a standard level doubling season?

It was designed as a tweaked, Standard printable version.

Populate Mechanic Limits

New 10 Sep 2016 Asked by werewolftits 30 Comments

was it ever considered for populate to be able to copy any token? i only recently noticed that parallel lives and doubling season affected all tokens and not just creatures.

No, populate was only ever creature tokens. Selesnya is all about creatures.

Epic Goblin Tokens

New 26 May 2016 Asked by hoondle 59 Comments

Happy birthday! One time, I battled my brother's Riku of Two Reflections commander deck. He had out Doubling Season and Parallel Lives, and had Riku double-cast Chancellor of the Forge. Over the course of the battle, he proceeded to double-cast Parallel Evolution, then flash it back (and double-cast it again)! By the end, he had out over 6 million goblin tokens! Even with the 200 life I had gained over the course of the battle (with my Zedruu deck), I couldn't hope to win.

A kindred soul. : )

Commander Game Victory

Happy birthday! My story should make you proud. I destroyed a 4 player commander game using some of your favorite cards. Doubling season and parallel lives plus storm herd.

What cards would be in FTV: Doubling? Off the top of my head all I can think of is Doubling Season and Parallel Lives, and those two are almost the same card.

A few off the top of my head: • Furnace of Rath • Chameleon Colossus • Doubling Cube  • Goblin Charbelcher • Kalonian Hydra • Solarian • Beacon of Immortality • Evolution Vat • Game of Chaos • Gratuitous Violence • Inquisitor’s Flail

More Doubling Cards?

New 25 Sep 2013 Asked by not-even-irl 33 Comments

I'm curious as to whether or not there are going to be any more green doubling cards like Doubling Season, Corpsejack Menace, or Parallel Lives.

There will be if I have anything to do with it.

Doubling Season Reprint Hope

New 17 Dec 2012 Asked by prathin 10 Comments

Mark, I know with Planeswalkers in the mix, Doubling Season being reprinted is a pipe dream for me. I know we got Parallel Lives, but can we see the other side if had a non-planeswalker permanent clause? I just want it for my Thallids

Doubling Season was so popular that I’m sure you’ll see many variants of it over the years.
