Was Myr Battlesphere an intentional rhyme?

Probably.

Appreciating War Finales

New 10 May 2019 Asked by deadinthestreet 30 Comments

Among so many other cards, the finale cycle in WAR is so awesome! I play them in my vintage cube and got to cast the white one for 11, into the green one for 12 the next turn for myr battlesphere and swing for like 600 damage. Thanks for so many awesome cube cards, I’m really looking forward to modern horizons 🤓

I’m happy you’re happy. : )

Myr Battlesphere Origins

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY! Sorry. Just realized I can ask a question, got excited. Ahem. So. Can I ask for some trivia on everyone's favorite Adorable Death Ball: Myr Battlesphere?

Myr Battlesphere was created by a mini design team dedicated to making Myr cards. I believe it was the brainchild of Aaron Forsythe. Happy Birthday!

Mishra's Toy Workshop Ruling

New 24 Oct 2015 Asked by zombie-illithid 21 Comments

One of your rulings on Mishra's Toy Workshop says (or at least implies) it can't be used to cast Cloudgoat Ranger, Elspeth, Knight Errant, and Doubling Season. Yet you implied in another ruling that it can be used to cast Myr Battlesphere. I don't understand the difference between casting Myr Battlesphere and Cloudgoat Ranger (they both create tokens with ETB, and only ETB). What is the difference?

Mishra’s Toy Factory can be used or any spell or effect that directly makes tokens. I’ve ruled that an “enter the battlefield” effect counts.

Mishra's Workshop's Intelligence

Wait, how does Mishra's Toy Workshop know that when Myr Battlesphere enters the battlefield, it makes token? Because it doesn't make tokens on cast. Just on ETB.

Mishra’s Toy Workshop is smart.

Torpor Orb Limitation

New 22 Dec 2014 Asked by imperialgrunt 14 Comments

If torpor orb is on the battlefoeld, can Mishra's Toy Workshop still be used to cast Myr Battlesphere?

Nope. If the spell/effect will not generate tokens, the Workshop cannot be used.

Mishra's Toy Factory Mechanics

New 22 Dec 2014 Asked by nobthehobbit 16 Comments

So even though Acorn Catapult doesn't immediately generate tokens upon coming into play, Mishra's Toy Factory can still be used to cast it? And can Mishra's Toy Factory be used to cast Myr Battlesphere (or, say, an Equipment with Living weapon) if there's a Torpor Orb or Hushwing Gryff in play? Can Mishra's Toy Factory be used to cast any creature if Genesis Chamber is in play?

Oops. I confused two cards. You can use Mishra’s Factory to activate Acorn Catapult or to cast Acorn Harvest. You may not use it to cast Acorn Catapult as it does not directly create tokens when cast.

Mishra's Toy Factory Query

New 22 Dec 2014 Asked by osomoore 17 Comments

Oh Silver-Bordered Rules Master, inquiring minds want to know about Mishra's Toy Factory (Tap: Add 3 to your mana pool. Spend this mana only on spells or abilities that put tokens onto the battlefield). Does it cast Myr Battlesphere? What about Acorn Catapult?

Yes and yes. If the spell’s casting results in tokens, you’re good to go.

Designing Iconic Cards

Did you design Arcbound Ravager, Myr Battlesphere, or Phyrexian Metamorph? A Maro signature on one or more of them would really make my Commander deck happy.

Arcbound Ravager yes, the other two no.

Myr Battlesphere Nickname

New 21 Jun 2013 Asked by hibropotamus-blog 30 Comments

Please tell me that the design name for Myr Battlesphere was at one point Myrderball.

If I could go back in time, I would make that true. I mean… I don’t deny cool things. NOTE: Myr is pronounced at Wizards as “meer” as in rhymes with steer.

Favorite Cards Inquiry

Love your blog! It's all... insightful and fantastic and things. Since you've been getting a lot of "who designed this" questions lately, do you know who designed Hellrider, Myr Battlesphere and Hellkite Charger? Those are my three favorite cards. And, um, a more substantial question of what your opinions of them are as well? Hellkite Charger and Bear Umbra are from the same block, and I'm curious, was that combo planned or often used in testing? sorry for all the questions, stay awesome!!

Hellrider was probably made by myself or someone on my Dark Ascension design team (Jenna Helland, Zac Hill, Graeme Hopkins & Matt Tabak), Myr Battlesphere was made by Aaron Forsythe and Hellkite Charger was made by Ken Nagle or someone on his Archenemy design team (Kelly Digges, Aaron Forsythe, Dave Guskin & Mons Johnson). My favorite of them is the Myr Battlesphere but the other two seem like fun cards. I don’t think the combo was planned.
