Lotus Petal

Token Lotus Petal Idea

New 14 Feb 2023 Asked by nothingbutland-blog 34 Comments

If or when a world where treasure gets replaced with token Lotus Petal?

If. I made Lotus Petal as a fixed Black Lotus. One of my many “fixed” cards to also be broken.

Sticker Effects on Names

New 15 Oct 2022 Asked by absoluteboyo 19 Comments

If a sticker (or any text-changing effect) changes the name of a card, does that name carry over to that card's abilities e.g. if you renamed a Lotus Petal to Urza's Lotus Petal, does the sacrifice ability become "Sacrifice Urza's Lotus Petal:"?

Yes, text referring to the name adjusts to the new name.

Lotus Petal Rarity

New 11 Jul 2022 Asked by seventhousand7 30 Comments

Can a non-standard set support Lotus Petal at common?

I don’t think we’d introduce it to a format it wasn’t in already, and I’m very skeptical it would be at common.

Lotus Petal Errata Query

Will Lotus Petal (and possibly other similar cards) get errata'd to Treasure?

Not that I know of.

About Lotus Petal's Design

New 06 Apr 2022 Asked by ebonstone 54 Comments

*Is a MV1 mana rock that enters tapped still too powerful?" "Yes." How did Lotus Petal happen then?

We were trying to make a “fixed Black Lotus” and missed. Also, that was twenty-four years ago.

Common to Mythic Rare Possibility

New 08 Dec 2021 Asked by deyuil 64 Comments

On commons being Mythic Rare: would Lotus Petal qualify? If you were to print Lotus Petal today, would it be at Mythic Rare?

That’s the best suggestion I’ve heard for a card being printed at common and mythic rare.

Lotus Petal as a Treasure

Could Lotus Petal be made into a Treasure?

That is an interesting question.

Regarding Lotus Petal's Cost

If lotus petal cost one generic mana, do you think it would still be broken?

Probably.

Elvish Spirit Guide Concerns

New 24 Mar 2020 Asked by rincewindthewanderer 63 Comments

Wait, how is elvish spirit guide a play design concern? Its just one free mana, not even repeatable because you exile it. I'm no professional game designer but that doesn't seem so bad

So, you’ve obviously never played with Lotus Petal. : )

Lotus Petal in Standard

New 29 Jun 2019 Asked by tbjanowski 26 Comments

Could you see a standard set where Lotus Petal could see a reprint?

Usually cards banned in larger formats can’t be reprinted in Standard. Lotus Petal, in particular, isn’t remotely close to being printable in Standard.

Poisonous Mox Design

New 06 Oct 2017 Asked by great-rusher-blog 42 Comments

How would you design a Mox with Poison counters?

I’m not sure we can. A 0-cost artifact that taps for one color of any mana and gives you 9 poison is essentially Lotus Petal and that was broken.

Treasure Token Standard

New 17 Sep 2017 Asked by reels-and-cartridges 27 Comments

Is Treasure the new standard moving forward for Lotus Petal/Gold artifact tokens? So they have to tap and sacrifice instead of just sacrifice?

Not necessarily. Improvise won’t always be in Standard.

Kaladesh Invention Query

New 20 Dec 2016 Asked by subbak 29 Comments

Lotus Petal is a Kaladesh Invention. Meaning it exists on Kaladesh. How does the flavor make no sense?

It makes no sense for Tezzeret. Etherium is his thing.

Etherium Cell Discussion

New 20 Dec 2016 Asked by oldtumblehome 31 Comments

On the Etherium Cell issue... why isnt it just a Lotus Petal token? The game has already created tokens that are literally preexisting cards with the Time Spiral creature spellshapers and it would have been a nice nod to the Masterpieces.

Because the flavor would make no sense.

Lotus Petal's Power

New 08 May 2016 Asked by landgrafb 34 Comments

RE: Lotus Petal is definitely too strong in Modern and also too strong in Standard. - We've already proved via Treasure Cruise that Modern's metagame has a completely different scale when it comes to "too strong". Is it possible that a card like Lotus Petal isn't that bad for Standard?

No, it’s too good for Standard. You are way underestimating it if you think it isn’t.

Lotus Petal Standard Debate

New 08 May 2016 Asked by greatghoul 37 Comments

I think lotus petal should be brought back into standard. It's strong, but not too broken. Maybe make it an uncommon instead?

Not a developer, but even I know Lotus Petal is way above the power level of current Standard. It’s even above the power level of Modern.

Lotus Petal Assessment

New 16 Oct 2014 Asked by lynnis1115 66 Comments

Lotus Petal, did you design it? Do you think it is broken or just very strong?

I did design it and it is broken. Who knew one third of a Black Lotus was still really good? : )

Lotus Petal Standard Power

New 15 Sep 2013 Asked by theverdantchef 10 Comments

Would Lotus Petal be an appropriate power level for standard?

I’ll start with the “I’m not a developer” explanation and then say no.

Lotus Petal in Standard

New 04 Jul 2013 Asked by subbak 3 Comments

Apart from the fact that it would probably get insta-banned in Modern, do you think Lotus Petal could be reprinted in Standard, either now or in a reasonable future environment?

Unlikely as it has the potential to get very dangerous.
