Killer Cosplay Limitation

New 14 Jan 2024 Asked by carvedocean 24 Comments

If I attach Killer Cosplay to a token creature, can I name Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar and have the token transform into her?

No. It has to match the mana cost. No mana cost isn’t a mana cost, and thus you can’t match it.

Killer Cosplay Rule

New 15 Nov 2023 Asked by cpudraner 28 Comments

Hi mark! I have a question about the ruling on the acorn card, Killer Cosplay. If I equip it to a token, can it become a copy of Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar? Thanks!

No. To have an identical mana cost, the card it’s copying has to have a mana cost.

No, just tabletop versions.

Killer Cosplay Complexity

New 11 Oct 2022 Asked by ckb625 27 Comments

Is Killer Cosplay acorn for rules or power level reasons?

It’s considered too much cognitive load for tournaments. Players aren’t expected to know all 24,000+ printed cards.

Mana Cost Mechanics

New 09 Oct 2022 Asked by kirahawk 20 Comments

For Killer Cosplay, can a token with no mana cost be turned into the flip side of West Vale Abby since that also has no mana cost?

No. To have an identical mana cost you have to have a mana cost.

Killer Cosplay Limits

Un rules question: Can killer cosplay copy cards not released yet, like in Brother’s War, and can it copy card that are digital only on mtg arena.

Only cards already released.

Killer Cosplay Rules

Can a Killer Cosplay attatched to a token (with no mana cost) cause it to become the back side of certain double faced cards that also have no mana cost?

You have to have a mana cost to have an identical mana cost. No cost is not a “mana cost”.

Online Search Limits

New 27 Sep 2022 Asked by joeshorriblepuns 22 Comments

Am I allowed to search cards online for effects like standard procedure and killer cosplay?

Normally not in the middle of playing. EDIT: As pointed out in the notes, you can do the work ahead of time, so you narrow down your options. You can’t just stop the game for five minutes to do research.

Unfinity Cards by Rosewater

New 23 Jun 2022 Asked by nicolbolas96 41 Comments

Hi Mark, will there be any card in Unfinity with FT written by you?

There will be many. Of the ones that are already public, I had a hand in writing Assembled Ensemble and Killer Cosplay.

Killer Cosplay's Green Nature

New 13 Dec 2021 Asked by admiralsmash-blog 37 Comments

Why is Killer Cosplay green when Ricard Garfield, Ph.D. and shapeshifting effects in general are blue?

Green is secondary in shapeshifting after green (albeit a distant second). Richard Garfield already let blue play in the “Mental Magic” space. We wanted to let another color have some fun with it.

Issues with Killer Cosplay Card

New 08 Dec 2021 Asked by elspethconquersbreathmouthwash 52 Comments

Hi Mark, You said that what makes cards "acorn" can be very subtle, and already I don't see why Killer Cosplay couldn't be printed in black border 😅 Can you explain? Also, sorry for making this a 2-parter but why Squirrels and not Beebles? We've seen a lot of black bordered squirrels recently but Beebles have only shown up in Unsets in the past decade+ and are a lot wackier :)

Killer Cosplay has a bunch of issues. One, it requires an amount of working knowledge that exceeds the mental capacity of even the most enfranchised player. Two, it has a higher variance than we’re comfortable with in an eternal card. Three, if we made it eternal, we’d have to cost it so conservatively, that it would be hard to play. All the same reason we wouldn’t make Richard Garfield PhD eternal.

Killer Cosplay Flavor Text Comment

I just noticed the flavor text on Killer Cosplay. Sheer genius. Cant wait for the rest of the set.

My favorite touch is the name of the woman saying it, Steffi Bobsdotter.

Rules Concerning Killer Cosplay

New 01 Dec 2021 Asked by dragongirl-brev 24 Comments

I have an (un-?)rules question about Killer Cosplay: do creature tokens like 1/1 Squirrels have the same mana cost as Meld cards like Brisela? I know Brisela's CMC is 11, but I've been unable to find info on if Brisela has a "mana cost". Followup: do tokens have the same mana cost as Dryad Arbor?

Creature tokens only have a mana cost if they are a copy of a creature with a mana cost. Otherwise they have no mana cost and a mana value of 0. Two cards that have no mana cost do not share a mana cost, so no, tokens (non copies) and Dryad Arbor do not share a mana cost.

Killer Cosplay and Banned Cards

New 01 Dec 2021 Asked by badatcommander 32 Comments

How does Killer Cosplay work with banned cards? In a game of Un-Commander can I dress Stuffy Doll up as Golos, or animate a Sultai Ascendancy and dress it up as Leovold?

As long as it is an official Magic card that’s a creature, Killer Cosplay can copy it, provided another creature exists with the same mana cost. Remember the card is acorn, so it’s only in decks in most formats where everyone is on board with it being used.

Details on Killer Cosplay

New 30 Nov 2021 Asked by minoke5618 45 Comments

So, Killer Cosplay can't have a no-mana-cost creature become a copy of another no-mana-cost creautre, right? Like you can't put it on a Dryad Arbor to become a copy of Asmoranomardicadaistanaculdicar?

No, you have to have the same mana cost which means you have to have a mana cost. Me and you being barefoot doesn’t mean we have the same shoes. : )

Unfinity Trivia on Birthday Week

New 29 Nov 2021 Asked by banksyguythrowingthings 44 Comments

It's my birthday week, and I'd like some trivia on Unfinity. I am very excited for this set!

Killer Cosplay was originally an aura, but we realized it would be cool to represent cosplay (as it’s popular at amusement parks) and to do that we felt it needed to be an equipment. Also, a joke I forgot to point out in the article, the little bear (a grizzly bear) is dressed up as a tarmogoyf, both costing 1G.Happy Birthday!EDIT: Maybe it’s a Bear Cub (also 1G). Good catch.
