Hornet Queen Break Criteria

New 07 Sep 2023 Asked by seventhousand7 31 Comments

Is Hornet Queen only a break because it makes a bunch of small flier tokens? Green seems to be allowed to get flying on high MV rare creatures, like on the occasional green dragon.

Hornet Queen’s issue is that it’s too efficient in both creating fliers and in shutting down the opponent’s fliers with your own fliers.

Green Flyers Opinion

Good morning MaRo,What is your opinion on recently printed large creatures in Green with flying? For example, Destructor Dragon, Foe-Razer Regent, Herdchaser Dragon, Old Gnawbone, Green Dragon, and Kura, the Boundless Sky.

Green should get flyers infrequently. I prefer when the monogreen ones aren’t too strong.

Evergreen Keywords and Colors

New 28 Apr 2022 Asked by nicklbailey 42 Comments

"Do you feel like you are stretching evergreen keywords to too many colors. Reach used to be only green now white and red can both get it. Green gets flying in almost ever set now and even blue has haste and is getting vigilance."For reference, Mono-Green has gotten exactly 5 creatures with Flying in premier sets since the Tarkir block. Three are parts of dragon cycles, one is a callback to an iconic green dragon and one is Gilded Goose, which has 0 power and so mechanically is similar to reach. The claim that Green gets flying almost every set is very false.

Dragon Colors and Flavor Text

New 02 Jul 2021 Asked by hugetractsoffetchland 34 Comments

Although their "breath weapon" abilities are certainly in the color pie, the flavor text on Green Dragon, Black Dragon, and Red Dragon seems more suited to black, red, and white respectively. Is this a kind of bend? Do you know whether the designers considered having the cards' colors not necessarily match the colors of the scales?

It was talked about early and the decision was reached to match their physical color.

If/when another mono green dragon?

There will be one when we do another cycle of monocolor Dragons. We do them about once a decade.

Black/Green Dragon

Will we ever get a Black/Green dragon?

It’s tricky getting g multicolor iconics where neither color is the core color of the iconic. But if any creature type could do it, it would be Dragon.

D&D Dragons Correction

New 14 Feb 2017 Asked by apocalypticvalraven 33 Comments

"Yes, Dungeons and Dragons debuted with exactly five dragons, one matching each color of magic. Four of their five habitats also match the Magic basic lands, only white dragons (whose habitat is arctic) don't." Not exactly- OD&D debuted with the Black dragon (swamps), Blue dragon (deserts), Green dragon (Forests), Red dragon (volcanoes), and White dragon (Arctic), as well as the Golden dragon which had no particular favored location. So, six dragons, two of which do not match MtG's lands.

Green Dragon Concept

New 10 Dec 2016 Asked by ironchefravnica 42 Comments

Regarding having a green dragon in KTK, did design consider a flightless dragon? An Ostrich Dragon, if you will. Too big to fly, but happy to trample. Basically a fire-breathing Terra Stomper.

We call wingless Dragons Wurms in Magic.

Uncounterability Color Pie

New 06 Sep 2012 Asked by nomoremonkis-blog-blog 3 Comments

Due to the prevalence of these cards in RTR, I feel justified in asking this: What part of the color pie is uncounterability?

Traditionally its red and green. Red gets uncounterable spells and green gets uncounterable creatures. When we do cycles though, we occasionally bleed for the cycle. For example, In Champions of Kamigawa, the green dragon in the cycle had flying even though green seldom gets big fliers.

Green Dragon Flight Potential

New 27 Jul 2012 Asked by stealingshit-blog 2 Comments

If you were to do a cycle of dragons in vein of Champions of Kamigawa, would how much push would there be to prevent the green dragon from having flying?

I wouldn’t mind if a green dragon in a cycle of dragons had flying. Flying shouldn’t be a green thing but Magic does have rare exceptions.
