Possibility of Kindred Creature Cards

New 06 Jul 2024 Asked by thunderweb 5 Comments

Can Creature cards have Kindred, like "Kindred Creature - Brushwagg"?(I know it won't do much, unless I play cards like Embiggen.)

Creature cards would not have the Kindred card type as it’s not needed.

Front for Nerfing Embiggen

New 13 Jun 2024 Asked by zombsidian 6 Comments

Mark, we all know the Lizard/Cephalid Creature errata is actually a front, so you can nerf Embiggen.

I think Embiggen only grows over time, no matter how much we try to stop it. : )

Embiggen and Human Human Creature

New 28 May 2024 Asked by bardeen1 32 Comments

Mark, some friends of mine are debating how Embiggen works. If, somehow, we manage to make a Creature - Human Human, will it get +2/+2 or +3/+3?

I don’t know of a way to make a creature a Human Human.

Future Un-Sets Uncertainty

New 18 May 2024 Asked by jimharbor 48 Comments

Will future Unsets no longer have eternal legal cards in them? If that is true what is the solution for cards like Embiggen and Saw and Half that work in the rules? Thanks for answering our questions sir .

I’m still working to try and make sure future Un-sets even exist, so that is what I call a stage two problem. I honestly don’t know the answer. The eternal cards helped sell the set and got a lot more people playing Un-cards in Commander. On the flip side, it upset a lot of other players. So, I honestly don’t know what a future Un-set would do.

Unfinity Cards Legality

New 13 May 2024 Asked by su92 4 Comments

I saw that Legacy and Vintage banned sticker and attraction cards. While I agree that the logistical reality of tournaments is not ideal, I just want to express that I really liked making (some) Un-set cards legal including very off-the-beat mechanics, and I hope that remains a possibility for the future (probably not with extra decks though). And I hope other Unfinity cards (Embiggen, Saw in Half, etc.) are not retroactively made illegal as well.

There are no current plans to ban any of the non-sticker/Attraction eternal-legal Unfinity cards.

Unfinity Cards Issue

New 12 May 2024 Asked by thebuslady 3 Comments

Can we go ahead and admit that legalizing unfinity cards in eternal formats was a mistake? As a goblin player I'm sick of dealing with sticker goblin, it's both a pain to play with and against. And while this is one card that could be banned there doesn't seem to be any reason why another card like embiggen couldn't cause problems down the road with the right tools.

If there was a way to make them legal in Commander, but not Legacy, I would have done it.

Brushwaggs' Secret

New 01 Apr 2024 Asked by parkmaniatheoriginal 40 Comments

With the full spoiler for OTJ out, I have to say: the choice of "non-Brushwagg" on Embiggen suddenly seems less random. Any comments?

The Brushwaggs know what they did.

Creature Type Clarity

New 06 Oct 2023 Asked by stanthedrybear 35 Comments

As someone who is a big fan of playing [Embiggen], please, PLEASE, have future "two word" creature types be hyphenated. I don't look forward to arguments about whether my Doctor gets +4/+4 or +5/+5

I think Time Lord is a special exception.

Praising Expansion

Just wanted to add my voice to those who are very happy, and very excited, to see Magic push into so many new spaces. Embiggen the Buffet!!!

Time Lord Classification

On the new Doctor Who cards previewed at SDCC, is “Time Lord” considered one creature type, or two? Embiggen wants to know!

It’s one creature type.

Feedback on Unfinity Launch

New 10 Oct 2022 Asked by thatguyovertherewiththething 75 Comments

I judged my Unfinity launch this weekend. Wanted to send some feedback here:- Players seemed really frustrated that stickers were pretty one use. Stickers never went back properly on the sheet after use. - General Positive reaction to Attractions. Players did seem frustrated with the dexterity ones, mainly due to difficulty. Lots of talk about using them in Commander.- Humor of the set landed okay but when it landed, it landed very well. Lots of love from the enfranchised players on the in-jokes and references.- "What constitutes a hat?" Is now a philosophical question. Highly recommend some reminder text when "hats matters" returns as a theme.- Some complicated black border rules questions actually came up more often than normal. One that stuck out was the interaction between Monitor Monitor, Drop Tower, and how the rules see dice results.- Embiggen, Animate Object, and A Real Handful were definite bombs that took over games. Six-Sided Die as well but I think that breaks even due to the variance. All in all, everyone left happy over 3 events in 2 days (minus one vocal player who was upset with stickers.) I personally loved the set and plan on building around some cards in commander. Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for the feedback.

Embiggen Design Choice

New 29 Sep 2022 Asked by annorax 47 Comments

For Embiggen, if you'd remembered any of the other creature types that are unlikely to be printed again (Spawn comes to mind, from Elder Spawn), would you have used one of those instead of Brushwagg to block Changeling brokenness?

The goal was to make it funny while choosing a creature type that impacted very few creatures.

Standard Embiggen Possibility

New 28 Sep 2022 Asked by admiralsmash-blog 32 Comments

Embiggen has the non-Brushwagg rider to prevent it from being crazy with changelings, but could we ever see a no-exceptions version of Embiggen printed into Standard on the reasoning of "this is cool in Standard where there are no changelings, if it's broken in Eternal we'll just ban it"?

It would most likely need to get banned in all older formats, so it’s unlikely we’d print it like that. It’s okay not to work with changelings.

Embiggen Excludes Brushwaggs

New 28 Sep 2022 Asked by sdfkjgh 84 Comments

Why does Embiggen exclude Brushwaggs? Is this some kind of throw-forward? Are Brushwaggs finally going to become the unstoppable force their original flavor text hinted at?

We needed to have non-something to keep the spell from being able to target creatures with changelings, as we couldn’t make the card eternal otherwise. We discussed what would be the funniest option and decided it was Brushwagg. (Technically, I made it non-Brushwagg as it was my first guess, and we never found a better option.)

Embiggen Supertype

New 28 Sep 2022 Asked by minoke5618 24 Comments

For Embiggen, does "Token" count as a supertype? It's written that way on all the official printed tokens.

Token is not a supertype.

Embiggen and Brushwaggs

New 27 Sep 2022 Asked by su92 59 Comments

Re: Embiggen. Why Brushwagg as opposed to any other type?

It was the funniest option for non-<blah>. Also, there only being two Brushwaggs meant not a lot of fallout.

Embiggen's Mechanical Humor

New 27 Sep 2022 Asked by darksteelartificer 63 Comments

Why doesn't Embiggen work on Brushwaggs? I don't understand the flavor. Is it only so Changelings don't get huge?

The flavor is the creator of the spell had a beef with Brushwaggs. Mechancially, it was the funniest way to allow the card to be eternal since if it hit Changelings, it would be too good and cause problems in Legacy/Vintage.
