It’s going well. I’m excited for my talk/Q&A later today. I’ve been able to see a bunch of great panels.

I don’t know. I can probably get more info as we get closer.

Trivia on 'Love Song of Night and Day'

New 19 Jul 2024 Asked by mistymountainsgay 6 Comments

Before my birthday is over, I would love to invoke my right of trivia!Anything about my favorite part of Magic's world, the Love Song of Night and Day? Or if not, Mirage in general? (I fell in love with Magic when I found my parents' old collection of Mirage and 4th Edition, making me probably the youngest grumpy old magic player to ever shake their fist at these new confangled planeswalker cards)

The Love Song of Night and Day was a poem written by Jenny Scott when she was an editor on Magic. Pieces of it were used on flavor text in Mirage block. I would later read the poem at a wedding at a Magic Grand Prix. We would also eventually making a Saga that referenced it.Happy Birthday!

SDCC Preview Expectations

New 12 Jul 2024 Asked by emrachemicalromance 6 Comments

In this year SDCC are we getting a similar preview of things to come as the one we got last year?

No. It’s the weekend of Bloomburrow prerelease, so my talk is Bloomburrow focused, but I will be talking about things you don’t know about.

Animals for Bloomburrow Color Pairs

New 08 Jul 2024 Asked by moonwaltz7 44 Comments

Did the ten animals for the two color pairs in Bloomburrow get announced somewhere and I missed it? You and other folks on here seem to be talking about them but I haven't seen it anywhere.

They were announced at the preview panel at MagicCon Amsterdam.

Preview Panel Feedback

New 28 Jun 2024 Asked by kylekpratt 8 Comments

"Absolute faith. The audience is *so* excited for Bloomburrow we didn’t feel a need to focus on it." I must admit that this was not my experience. I was extremely excited to tune into the preview panel to get a sense of the cards I'm next going to open, draft, and play with. The panel's virtual lack of Bloomburrow content dampened my enthusiasm and made it feel like the extremely fast sprint between magic sets is even faster than it currently is. We were getting AC spoilers a week ago.

The preview panel at Chicago Magic Con (which I was on) had the same effect. Yeah, we showed cards from Outlaws of Thunder Junction, the next set, but everyone wanted to talk about Bloomburrow. The unknown thing just pulls attention.

Hi Mark!Unsure if you've been asked before, so I'll just ask to make sure: Will you be coming to Magiccon Amsterdam?Because I have three very special cards I'd love to get signed by you :)

Sadly, I am not coming to Amsterdam. I will be in Vegas.

Personal Card Designs

New 15 Jun 2024 Asked by cinominn 4 Comments

Hey Maro, met you at magiccon chicago, and you signed my prophetic bolt, just wanted to say thanks again. In an effort to actually have a question, what are some kinda goofy cards you designed that people might not realize are yours or that you don't get to talk about a lot.

I’m really happy to sign any Magic card. I’m not sure what cards I design that people don’t know. I produce a lot of content.

Transformers TCG and BOT Trivia

New 13 Jun 2024 Asked by haru-n-harkel 3 Comments

Hey Mark, it's my birthday, so I was wondering if I could ask for some trivia on either the Transformers TCG or the Tramsformers Magic cards from BOT.

The Transformer card was the first card we designed for the Hascon product. We started with “it has to be double-faced”. Happy Birthday!

Happy belated birthday, Mark! A very special Magic memory of mine was getting to go to MagicCon Chicago through the New Perspectives program. It was a really meaningful opportunity for me and everyone was so kind.

I’m glad you enjoyed it.

New 16 May 2024 Asked by eternalcheechako 3 Comments

has there been any public announcement about the status of the pro tour since the August 2020 announcement that "we're taking the year off" and to stay tuned for a 2021 announcement (which I can't find)?

The Pro Tour has started again. We just had one held in Seattle last month, and the next one is in June at MagicCon Amsterdam.

D&D Card Trivia

New 16 May 2024 Asked by sapphic-recluse 20 Comments

Hello! Saturday, 18 May is my birthday and I'm requesting a(n early) spot of birthday trivia about any Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, please. It could be about a card from CLB or AFR, or something on the D&D side like the Strixhaven sourcebook. Many thanks!

This is the first Dungeons & Dragons themed Magic card we made. It was designed for Unstable, but first appeared in a special box at Hascon. When I designed the card, it rolled three six-sided dice, but the D&D team asked if we could change it to a twenty-sided die as that was more iconic for D&D.Happy Birthday!

Homunculus Naming Conventions

New 01 May 2024 Asked by vedalkensamurai 64 Comments

Homunculus fact! While Homunculi on Ravnica, Fiora, and Kylem have been shown to have vowelless names, that is not the case on Innistrad, as with Geralf's assistant, Oglor.

Un-sets vs Playtest Cards

New 15 Apr 2024 Asked by lumideluxe 25 Comments

Do the MagicCon Unknown events count as un-sets or something adjacent?

Playtest cards are a different animal from Un-cards, but they are adjacent to one another.
