Graveyard Order History

New 12 Jun 2023 Asked by judge-natedogg 39 Comments

Tempest Block was indeed the last block to print cards that cared about graveyard order - Tempest had Corpse Dance and Phyrexian Grimoire, and Stronghold had Volrath's Shapeshifter (Exodus did not have any).

That was my memory.

Errata on Specific Cards

Has Wizards considered Errata’ing Bone Dancer, Corpse Dance and Krovilan Horror to eliminate this? You also forgot the most played format in the game which DOES HAVE CARDS FROM PRE URZAS SAGA LEGAL: Commander

There are pros and cons of eternal formats.Pro: You get to play with cards from all of Magic.Con: You have to play with cards from all of Magic. : )

Reanimate Spell Limits

Is it possible to push cheap temporary reanimate spells like Corpse Dance (without the buyback)?

Not without making it hard for us to make big, expensive splashy creatures.

Red Reanimation Nuance

New 24 Feb 2017 Asked by tmzerozero-blog 29 Comments

So with the red corpse dance comment did you mean than an appropiately costed way to reanimate creatures temporarily over multiple turns with the same card could be in the red color pie? Or were you just commenting on the one shot version?( I guess that a planeswalker minus might be a compromise too)

I was saying I think Red could reanimate a creature until end of turn. That’s all.

Red Reanimation Spells

cryptrat said I would love to see Corpse Dance printed in red. Maro:Me too, except without the graveyard order mattering part. Before we start giving red instant speed cheap playable reanimation spells, can we please let black have them back? Rise from the grave isn't competitive standard playable.

I was talking about the effect not the power level/cost.

Cheap Reanimate Spells

Low mana cost reanimate spells on the storm scale (3 and below)? What about with heavy restrictions like the card unearth or corpse dance?

Development has been moving away from cheap reanimation spells for years.

Buyback Mechanic Issues

New 14 May 2014 Asked by evouga 24 Comments

What is the problem with buyback? It is 1) beloved by all psychographics, and 2) generally looks better than it is, which sounds perfect for a mechanic... Whispers of the Muse and Capsize were mistakes, but Reiterate, Fanning the Flames, Verdant Touch, Clockspinning, Corpse Dance, etc were all perfectly fun and balanced cards.

The problem is that it isn’t worse than it looks. Journey Into Nyx tried to bring it back and it was too good.
