Legacy Weapon

Legacy Weapon Cost Link

So the {7}s on Legacy Weapon and Karn, Liberated is pure coincidence and had nothing to do with the Urzatron?

When did I say that? If a card is connected thematically to Urza and there’s a 7 activation, odds are it wasn’t a coincidence.

Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant Inquiry

Mark - Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant is the last known piece of the Legacy to not receive a physical card printing. Will you champion this cause, so that we may finally assemble the Legacy Weapon and bring about the end of Yawgmoth's terror?

I’ll see what I can do.

Colored Permanent Ability

New 07 Dec 2019 Asked by djscrub 29 Comments

"Could a colored permanent have an ability that reads "7: destroy target permanent?" "No." Is Legacy Weapon not something you would print now, then? It's basically the converse of that.

I read that as monocolored. Yes, five color can do it.

Urza's Legacy Representation

New 29 Mar 2018 Asked by tasty19384-deactivated20200201 68 Comments

Wasn't Urza represented as headless in the 10th edition version of legacy weapon? That's not a silver bordered card...

In black border, Urza has his head cut off and lived for a short time. That’s what silver border is making fun of, that living headless Urza was ever a thing.

Urza's Fate

Urza actually survived being beheaded. His head finally died sacrificing itself to power the Legacy Weapon that destroyed Yawgmoth.

Karn Liberated Exclusion

New 01 Aug 2016 Asked by shadesofpink 35 Comments

In From the Vault Lore, why wasn't Karn Liberated included? He just seemed like the perfect inclusion: His -3 ability refers to the Legacy Weapon, His Ult refers to his ability to time travel, AND he was one of the central figures in MANY of MTGs stories... The perfect combination of power and lore.

We only had fifteen slots and lots of choices to fill them.

Karn's Spark Origin

New 10 Nov 2015 Asked by songofviceandire 84 Comments

FYI, Karn's original spark comes from Urza (Urza placed his powerstones into Karn, sacrificing himself to power the Legacy Weapon and defeat Yawgmoth). Karn had to give up the spark to seal the Tolarian Academy time rift, and the instant he gave it up, the oil that had always been in Urza's stone began corrupting him, so he fled to Mirrodin, where the corruption worsened until Venser gave Karn his own spark to liberate him.

Legacy Weapon Trivia

New 31 May 2015 Asked by pijytfdea-deactivated20180308 29 Comments

Today is my Birthday! I'm super excited to finally ask: do you have any trivia on my all time favorite card, Legacy Weapon?

The Legacy Weapon was the culmination of a four-year story and we knew we needed to make something impressive. It needed to be an artifact for flavor reasons and we wanted it to involve all the colors showing everyone coming together. We toyed with all kinds of effects but ended up with the simple “Remove target permanent from the game.” (The term “exile” would come later.) The extra text was a rider to keep it from being abused. And that is how Legacy Weapon came to be. Happy Birthday!

Weatherlight Planeswalker Spark

New 21 Apr 2015 Asked by nick012000 22 Comments

You said that the Skyship Weatherlight wouldn't use a Planeswalker card if printed nowadays, but wasn't it part of the Legacy Weapon, and thus would have gotten a Planeswalker Spark alongside Karn had it not already been destroyed by that point?

The Weatherlight did not have the ability to move naturally between planes.

Weatherlight Crew Lifespan

New 13 Jul 2014 Asked by anarchistbunny 45 Comments

On not all of the Weatherlight crew being dead, obviously Karn makes this statement true, but has their been a short enough of an in universe time span to assume anyone else is alive? Is there a set idea in the multiverse how long it has been since the Legacy Weapon killed Yawgmoth?

Do a little research on Squee. : )

Karn Urzatron Connection

New 23 Aug 2012 Asked by vereendood 12 Comments

The Urzatron generates 7 mana, Karn costs 7 mana, Karn was created by Urza (and Barrin). Besides being such an undeniabled cool thing, was it actually intentional like the legacy weapon?

I never deny cool things. : )
