Trivia on Glissa Sunseeker

New 10 Nov 2021 Asked by dolbyzalo 33 Comments

Hey Mark, looks like my birthday trivia got swallowed last week. Can I get some trivia on my favorite character Glissa Sunseeker?

Glissa was the first creature to have “mana in your mana pool matters”. I was trying to give her something new because she was the protagonist of the novel. Happy Belated Birthday!

Green's First Strike Ability

Hey MaRo, could you provide some insight into why Green doesn't get or shouldn't get First strike unconditionally (Glissa Sunseeker). What about Green as far as the color itself or its philosophies doesn't make First strike fit?

We limit how many colors have any one ability. White and red, the combat-oriented colors, have it primary. Black which has a lot of knights has it tertiary. Three colors is enough.

Omnath Origin Trivia

Hi MaRo! Today is my birthday and I'd really like some trivia on my first and favourite (don't tell the others) commander: Omnath, locus of mana!

I had first messed around with mechanically caring about what mana was in your mana pool in Mirrodin with Glissa Sunseeker. Ken Nagle, inspired by that, made Omnath in Worldwake. Happy Birthday!

Some not lots.

Green's First Strike Exceptions

You said in a previous post that green does not get First Strike, but Glissa Sunseeker has it plus her other ability. It this before that changed?

We very infrequently, usually on legendary creatures, do bleeds to make them extra special. Akroma having haste dies not make haste a White thing.

Green First Strike

Why green can't be tertiary in First Strike? Sounds so natural to me when I see it to cards like Mirri or Glissa Sunseeker and doesn't sounds at all off flavour or off color pie.

First strike already has a tertiary color - black.

Omnath Design Trivia

Hi, MaRo! It's my girlfriends birthday today and her EDH commander is Omnath, Locus of Mana. Any trivia about him/her/it

Omnath was designed by Ken Nagle. I believe he was riffing off the card Glissa Sunseeker that I made for Mirrodin. Both use the number of mana in your pool to set a variable. Happy birthday to your girlfriend! (Man, these birthday wishes are drifting.)

Revisiting Free Spells

New 06 Jun 2011 Asked by thewormturns 1 Comments

I asked this question a week or two ago, but have not had an answer. Don't mean to be a pest, just wanted to make sure the question did not get lost. Have you considered revisiting the free spell "cycle" in Urza's Block, or other pseudo-free spells? I am referring to Snap and Rewind, and the rest of the "cycle". I know free spells can be troublesome, but Rewind has stood the test of time, and Glissa Sunseeker is a nice take as well

The free spells when first done in Urza’s Saga block proved to be problematic. With time we have found that a few of the reactive ones are okay, but this just isn’t a mechanic that I think we’re going to be messing with in a big way anytime soon.   Time has shown that getting to play things for free tends to be playing with dynamite. This isn’t to say we won’t mess in this area but we’ll probably do it more cautiously and in new ways rather than rehash old ones that caused problems in the past.
