Scarecrow Card Reprint Request

New 11 Jul 2024 Asked by j-waffles 1 Comments

May I request a reprint of the card scarecrow in the upcoming return to Lorwyn? The card is absolutely horrible but that’s what makes it so funny

We don’t have a lot of space for cards that are funny to see once and you don’t play.

Menace Against Certain Types

if or when: Menace against certain creature types? As in, "Spooky Scarecrow can't be blocked by only one Human."

If. It’s pretty narrow.

Constructs vs Robots

New 02 Aug 2023 Asked by taco-the-magic-dragon 58 Comments

"Both are fair game for a set where they make sense. I'd put Robot at 6 and Clown at 7."
Wouldn't robot just be a construct?

Not in a set where it was clearly a Robot. Think of Construct like Beast. We use it as a catch-all when there’s not a more specific creature type available. For example, all Golems and Scarecrows are technically Constructs, but we don’t call them that.

Scarecrow vs Saproling

Which do you think we will see first, scarecrow tokens, or a nontoken saproling?

The former.

Pauper Card Design

New 14 Jun 2023 Asked by livbrazilian 31 Comments

coming back to ask again a question, you said that pauper gets the "once per turn" treatment on most of its cards, but we have some recent examples that contradict this like "Energy Refractor", so does your answer only refers to the fact that the cost is "1 of any color"? so would it be possible for we to se on the future maybe a better "Shire Scarecrow" that doesnt have the "OPT" but the cost to use it is maybe higher or needs color mana like "orochi the leaf-caller"

There is a huge difference between that ability at 1 and 2.

Common Rarity Limitation

New 09 Jun 2023 Asked by livbrazilian 43 Comments

why the new card "Shire Scarecrow" can only activate once per turn? in the name of all pauper walls players, i'm asking if it would be too much to ask it to have the ability of "Orochi Leafcaller" Ç..Ç we are heart broken

Sometimes we try an ability and over time realize that it needs to be at a higher rarity. Common gets once per turn, multiple times per turn is for a higher rarity.

There were two in Throne of Eldraine, so most definitely a chance.

Future Scarecrow Commander

New 08 Mar 2023 Asked by fancifoolery 44 Comments

What are the odds of us getting a new Scarecrow commander that is less oppressive than Reaper King and more synergistic in the near future.... compleated Reaper King?

I can’t tell you how soon something can happen, but I do believe another legendary Scarecrow is more when than if.

Creating Strong Scarecrows

New 08 Feb 2023 Asked by ultimacc 28 Comments

Dear Mark, first question after reading the Blogatog for few years.I always loved the Reaper King, but scarecrows are not so many and not so strong to make a real EDH tribal in my opinion (I don't like use Changelings).I was thinking, is it difficult to create new strong scarecrows cards when there is a powerful "commander /lord card" that can be broken? This is an example with my favourite tribe, I think it could be the same with others that I don't know. Thanks

Eternal formats are very powerful, so we usually don’t worry about new cards (especially ones going into themes that aren’t already dominant) causing major problems. If they do, we have resources like banning.

Scarecrow Tribal Future

New 02 Feb 2023 Asked by extremecolourtyphoon 31 Comments

Can I get a "maybe :)" about seeing more scarecrow tribal in the future? Regardless, I love seeing when you guys slip one into a set. It's one of Magic's weirdly specific tribes, but I love them. :)

We keep making them, albeit slowly.

Wicker Picker Appreciation

New 08 Aug 2022 Asked by titania776 30 Comments

Im a tad late but I would like to thank you (and anyone else that was involved) for Wicker Picker. I love scarecrows all regardless of their playability. But this one checks so many boxes. It’s funny has good art and seems pretty playable. Can’t wait to kick around with some stickers, and with the rest of Unfinity. Honestly haven’t been this excited in years!

Happy to hear you’re excited. The sticker sheets have all sorts of goodies on them.

Scarecrows Trivia Gift

New 14 Jul 2022 Asked by lhurgyof-blog 27 Comments

Hey mark! My birthday was on the third, so I was wondering if I may get some birthday trivia on Scarecrows. :)

The first card where the world “scarecrow” appears is the card Scarecrow from The Dark. The first set to have “Scarecrow” printed on the type line is Shadowmoor where Scarecrow was the major artifact creature.Happy Birthday!
