DCI Ban Rules

New 10 Apr 2023 Asked by sleepybreaddemon 50 Comments

If my opponent uses "Look at Me, I'm the DCI" to ban Mulldrifter, can I still play cards as if they were Mulldrifters while I'm in "Form of the Mulldrifter"?

This came up in an actual game.

Form of Muldrifter isn’t technically acorn (or eternal), but I’ll give it my best guess. No, you can’t because Look at Me, I’m the DCI created an effect that, for the rest of the game, removes any card with that name in any zone. When the creature card goes to the stack as a card named Mulldrifter, it will get removed by the banning effect.

Against Mulldrifter Errata

New 22 Dec 2021 Asked by angrytastemakereagle-deactivate 47 Comments

I'm against a Mulldrifter errata - it's against the flavor of Lorwyn elementals, and it makes it harder to print with a new art interpretation

The Mulldrifter Fish issue has divided the community. I think I’m more convinced by the non-Fish side.

Anti-Mulldrifter Errata Counter-Request

New 22 Dec 2021 Asked by bobinthings 100 Comments

Please can I put in a counter-request that mulldrifter *not* get errata to be an elemental fish. The whole concept of the lorwyn elementals is they’re amalgamations of other creatures. If mulldrifter is a fish then all the other elementals should get their component creature types as well (like meadowboon being an elemental fox) when that’s just what non-flamekin elementals look like on lorwyn.

What do others think?Should Muldrifter be creature type Fish?

Maro, my good sir, did you design Evoke and more specifically Mulldrifter?

Yes, I did.

Creature Trivia

So for some birthday trivia how about some trivia on Kitchen Finks or Mulldrifter please, and thank you for the great work you do

Kitchen Finks was Heather’s Squirrel in design and was named after a squirrel that frequented the designer’s lawn. The designer was named Sean Fletcher and Heather is his wife. Happy Birthday!

Mulldrifter Birthday Trivia

My birthday was the 24th but I was working. Do you have any birthday trivia for my favourite blue card Mulldrifter? :)

The Evoke mechanic was originally design as instants and sorceries you paid extra mana to turn into creatures but the rules were super wonky so we did it the reverse way where they are always creatures and you pay to keep them around. Happy Belated Birthday!

Mulldrifter Creation Trivia

Seeing as it's my birthday, could you give some trivia on mull mulldrifter? One of my favorite cards!

Mulldrifter was the very first card I made with Evoke. It was a sorcery that drew you two cards and if you spent extra mana, the card turned into a creature which went onto the battlefield. The Rules Manager at the time suggested we make the mechanic creatures with enter the battlefield abilities (and later death triggers) that died if you didn’t pay the Evoke cost. Something about rules integrity. : ) Happy Birthday!

Card Drawing Comparison

In a design skeleton, would you put divination and mulldrifter in the same space?

They fill the card drawing slot so they wouldn’t coexist in the same set.

Evoke vs Echo

New 17 Nov 2014 Asked by cubeapril 18 Comments

Why do you think people like Evoke so much more than Echo, when they're almost the same mechanics? Mulldrifter at 2U with Echo 2 is a far stronger card, but I think most people would find the original more palatable.

Evoke you opt in when casting the card while Echo you have to opt in when playing it in your deck. The audience, on average, is just happier with the former.

Card Design Suggestions

I'm going to make a Maro theme deck for casual, and I thought it would be cool to try keep it to cards you designed. Any card draw or other spells you could suggest? Abby colour is fine. :-)

I’ve made lots of card drawing cards. Two of my best: Mulldrifter and Deep Analysis.

Green Card Drawing

New 03 Nov 2013 Asked by tsukuyomihime 13 Comments

Since green's card drawing is tied to its creatures, would it be possible to get something like Mulldrifter without flying in green?

In theory, yes that might be possible. Note that blue is still stronger at card drawing so it might cost more if done on green.

Mulldrifter's Power Level

New 08 Jun 2012 Asked by follypersist 3 Comments

Was Mulldrifter a mistake?

It was slightly more powerful than I think we thought it was (and we knew it was good). I don’t think it was a mistake though. We are supposed to push cards every year and I don’t think Mulldrifter caused major problems. That said, we tend not to reprint cards that we thought were over the line so while I don’t think we were upset we printed it, it’s chances of coming back aren’t great.
