Could Magic see a red/green ooze similar to Yule Ooze in black border? With a different second ability, of course.

Yes.

Will Fruitcake Elemental and Yule Ooze get errata'd to Food as well? :)

They can’t for two reasons:1) It’s an artifact subtype.2) All Food has “2, T, Sac: Gain 2 life.”

Tokens and Game Mechanics

New 23 Dec 2016 Asked by truegrove 33 Comments

Can I eat a Thopter represented by a cookie to regenerate Yule Ooze? Would this be considered a sacrifice effect?

Yule Ooze just cares that you’re eating, so yes you could eat a token that’s food. I’m not sure what the game does to tokens that disappear. My guess is they’re gone.

Yule Ooze Pun

New 17 Feb 2015 Asked by pwnylawyer 34 Comments

In the holiday card podcast, every time you say "Yule Ooze" it sounds like "You'll Lose". Was that intentional and was there ever any discussion of spotlighting that aural confusion?

It wasn’t only intentional, it’s why the card got made. : )

Red's Power Limits

New 18 Dec 2014 Asked by sigmasupreme 20 Comments

You seem to have said "red, while not normally destroying, can effectively destroy creatures." (regarding Yule ooze) So this means that cards like Decimate are within the color pie. I heard before that red did not destroy creatures. I'm confused.

Red does not destroy creatures. That’s why I said Yule Ooze was color bending. It was not color breaking because creatures are not traditionally a major weakness for red.

Yule Oooze Pie

New 18 Dec 2014 Asked by ixe8 11 Comments

Is former Holiday promo Yule Oooze breaking the color pie? Do you feel torn over the card between your love of oozes and your hatred of color pie violations?

Yule Ooze bends the color pie a tiny bit but it cones nowhere close to breaking it. Green can destroy all non creature permanents and red, while not normally destroying, can effectively destroy creatures.

Holiday Promos Playability

New 25 Mar 2014 Asked by mtgflyheight 11 Comments

Are holiday promos (like yule ooze) playable in un-set builds? I got my ooze from the contest back in 2011 and It's just occurred to me that well, maybe I should use it? Then again maybe I shouldn't. keep it pristine. Dunno. Oh and Hi! =D

Silver border cards are all welcome in Un-world. Okay, black and white border cards are also welcome. Un-world doesn’t discriminate on border color.

Hi Mark-I was wondering is Wizards doing another Happy Holidays card for 2012? Also have you thought about doing an april fools day promo ala the Un-cards? Best wishes

This is the seventh year we’ve done a holiday card. Previous years: 2006- Fruitcake Elemental 2007 - Gifts Given 2008 - Evil Presents 2009 - Season’s Beatings 2010 - Snow Mercy 2011 - Yule Ooze 2012 - Naughty//Nice

Yule Ooze Rules

I assume that, like Fat Ass, we are not allowed to eat the delicious cards to regenerate Yule Ooze?

That is correct. You have to eat food. And according to the Unhinged FAQ, gum is not food.

Holiday Card Design

New 19 Dec 2011 Asked by xnylived-deactivated20220422 3 Comments

Who designs the holiday cards? Is that something you do every year, or is it a special task you give to someone in design?

I’m in charge of the design for the holiday card but the work is usually done by a handful of people I assign to the task. This year’s card, Yule Ooze, was inspired by a name by Mark Gottlieb. Gottlieb had suggested this name for years but I knew it wanted to be a gold card (Oozes are red and green, of course) and I wanted to finish out our monocolor cycle of holiday cards first. Yule Ooze was designed by a combination of Shawn Main, Ethan Fleischer and myself.
