Natural State

Simic Philosophy

How natural is “improving on nature”?

Green has many facets. Green both cares about nature, and cares about things being in their natural state. The green part of Simic cares more about the first part than the second.

Contraption Transformation

New 13 Jun 2021 Asked by lettuce-from-the-salad-bar 32 Comments

There are actually a couple (if convoluted) ways of turning something into a contraption, the main one being animating the contraption, then using an effect along the lines of cytoshape.

But the second it leaves the battlefield it reverts to its natural state.

Un-rules on Names

New 05 Aug 2019 Asked by righteousforest 75 Comments

Un-rules question: According to the FAQTIWDAWCC, "_______" has no name in its natural state. If (through shenanigans) two "_______" with the same controller that haven't been given a name yet become legendary, does one of them die? Does "no name" count as a name for the purpose of other effects?

No name is not a name just as no color is not a color. If Blogatog can teach you one thing -absence of a property is not a kind of that property.

Black vs Green Nature

New 21 Mar 2017 Asked by drakyrie 50 Comments

Based on your article you say "Black looks at all the other colors and feels that each of them sees the world as they wish it to be .Black is the only realist, the only color to look and see the world as it is. " but then say "Green is the one color that doesn't want to change the world because green is convinced that the world already got everything right. ". Don't these contradict?

Black and Green differ on what’s the natural state of things.

Urza's Color Identity

New 03 Dec 2014 Asked by trifas 35 Comments

You once said that believe Urza is White/Blue. Then you agreed with a QM saying he sould be black and another one arguing he should be red. As a 5-color lover I have to ask: would you agree that Urza is at least partially green?

I do think he has some green in him. Part of his master plan had to do with finding the natural state of some bloodlines.

Defending Song of the Dryads

New 31 Oct 2014 Asked by ralphthehedgehog 30 Comments

Why are you bullying song of the dryads? What other color would make any permanent into a land? Multicolor implies it uses part of the colors it is composed of, so thats not right. Green is very much tied to the land. No other color has this tie, and so creating forests out of threats is bringing the world back to a natural state.

Not every ability is a monocolored one.

Red's Humans and Devils

New 15 May 2012 Asked by tnessfftto 3 Comments

You said "red was up to other things" regarding why it didn't get more soulbond--by that, did you mean humans tribal and a few devils? Why did red end up getting the lion's share of humans tribal? I mean, sure, people might be angry/passionate in the story, but they might just as easily be thoughtful plotters. (I can't make a case for them being green, as Innistrad really sucked for them in its natural state without anyone imposing law and order.)

We wanted the humans to build an army to help turn the tide and white and red made the most sense to be the human army.
