Saving Text Space with Numbers

New 13 Jul 2024 Asked by themartiangeek 3 Comments

Have you ever considered saving text space by using numbers for multiples of X (like 2X for the second part of Pest Infestation, 5X for Crackle with Power, or X/2 for Hydroid Krasis)? The German versions do the last one. Or how about for the number of dice rolled (e.g., 2d6 instead of two d6) like the Spanish cards do?

It doesn’t save much space and makes it a little less clear.

Naming Missed Opportunity

May I request that you deliver a polite but disappointed shake of the head to the person(s) responsible for naming "Infested Fleshcutter" for not naming it "Sword of Mite"?

My first request for a head shake.

Conditional Wrath Possibility

New 16 Feb 2020 Asked by tmdoublezero 31 Comments

Do you think white could get some sort of conditional wrath at uncommon? Like red gets pyroclasms and black gets infest veriants

Wrath of God effects are rare as it kills all (or almost all in some cases) creatures.

Theros Reprint Query

New 28 Jan 2020 Asked by gophilipbowles 34 Comments

"Do you know if either Zombie Infestation or Sarcomancy were discussed for reprinting in Theros Beyond Death?" FYI, Sarcomancy is on the Reserved List and Zombie Infestation doesn't fit Theros' flavour, as the only 'zombies' are Returned. I would have liked Sinister Concoction, though, a sacrificial enchantment that also fuels the graveyard.

I do not know.

Protection Mechanics Explained

New 30 May 2019 Asked by galeforce-wind 55 Comments

I'm wondering, if a creature (ex. Auriok Champion) has protection from a color (ex. B/R), will that protection prevent effects such as Infest (All creatures -2/-2 until end of turn) or will they still affect it?

Protection has four effects:1) The permanent with protection can’t be targeted by spells or effects of the relevant quality (usually color).2) All damage from the relevant quality dealt to the permanent with protection is reduced to 0.3) Creatures of the relevant quality can’t block the creature with protection.4) Artifacts or enchantments (aka equipment and auras) of the relevant quality fall off the permanent with protection.-2/-2 to all creatures does not fall into any of those four categories, so no, protection won’t stop it.

Red Enchantment Technique

Could red get a card like Gremlin Infestation that enchants enchantments?

It would be within Red’s color pie.

Ingest Mechanic Rationale

New 02 Sep 2015 Asked by remakingmagic 59 Comments

Why is ingest a combat damage trigger rather than an attack trigger like Annihilator?

Because the creature has to actually hit you to spread the poison. Also, one of the answers to poison is stopping the infect creature from hitting you. EDIT: Oops infest not infect. The answer’s basically the same. Making it combat damage forces more interaction and the flavor is better.

Mechanic Design Comparison

New 20 Aug 2015 Asked by maskofcybernetics 38 Comments

So out of the two of the most hated mechanics (Annihilator and Infect), which do you feel was the most poorly designed, or which had the least design space?

Those are far from the most hated mechanics. The minority that dislikes infest really dislike it though. Infect is better designed than Annihilator for a number of reasons (future design space, developmental issues, etc.)

Mogg Infestation Insight

New 17 Oct 2014 Asked by virre-linwendil-deactivated2018 15 Comments

It's my birthday but I can't figure out a card to ask about (though I did enjoy playing with moggs infestation in my first deck that ever won a game after a year of casual play). I could ask about Go but I won't. We go with Moggs Infestation.

Mogg Infestation is an example of a card from the past in a color we wouldn’t do today. The most likely version of this card today would be black.

Preemptive Answers Defense

New 12 Feb 2014 Asked by bringthepiecesbacktogether 17 Comments

I know you're not a developer, but what do you think about cards like Gaddock Teeg that outright makes your opponent unable to play the game? Similarly to infest, land destruction and some other cards. I think it's terrible design.

I believe, as long as they are kept in check, preemptive answers have a place in Magic.

Black's Survival Strategy

New 13 Sep 2013 Asked by penguinpaladin 9 Comments

Was it intentional that black's new higher-toughness creatures are better at surviving things like Pestilence and Infest, or was that just a lucky coincidence?

It wasn’t the reason we did it, but I like it.
