Handling Art-matters and Tokens

New 24 Jul 2022 Asked by llanowarminotaur 26 Comments

How should we handle art-matters cards with tokens? It seems reasonable that if I use an official Soldier token for a soldier, that it would have that art. But what if I've sketched my own soldier on an Infinitoken, does that count as the token's art? What if I have a tattoo on my hand and use Handy Dandy Clone Machine? What if I make a Soldier, but I don't have any soldier tokens handy and use a Knight token instead?

Art matters cards look only at official art, but that does count official tokens with art.

Using Prosthetic Hand in Gameplay

If the Homunculus token from Handy Dandy Clone machine enters as a copy of Slaying Mantis and you have a prosthetic hand, would you be allowed to throw your hand onto the battlefield for its etb ability?

I have ruled yes, but only if you use a prosthetic hand. You can’t just bring one to a game.

Acornelia and Chitterspitter Interaction

Hi Mark. Taking further the Acornelia/Chitterspitter question: if Chitterspitter becoms a creature, I have The Ozolith and my hand is a token from Handy Dandy Clone Machine, it's possible to move all acorn counters onto my hand. Since my hand is a part of me, can I use these counters with Acornelia? :)

Nice try, but no. The counters can’t be on any permanent, even you.

Un rules question: If the 2/2 homunculus token from handy dandy clone machine somehow becomes a copy of slaying mantis as it enters, how do I throw my hand from three feet away? Can I punch a creature to fight it?

There’s no way to throw your hand three feet, so it can’t do the enter the battlefield effect.

Segovian Angel Creation

New 27 May 2019 Asked by tonyredgravedmc 70 Comments

Maaaaark! Segovian Angel! You're gonna need a Handy Dandy Clone Machine to make you 2 new hands for high-fiving the one responsible

The card started out in the Hackathon as part of a cycle I made of little versions of iconic creatures. I think I called the white one Wee Serra Angel and it was a 2W 2/2 flier with vigilance. (Making common, but nostalgic, French vanilla designs was hard.) In vision design, Kelly Digges came up with the idea of making it Segovian and Ethan shrink it to a 1/1 in response.

hey Mark, can I get an unstable ruling? if I have a token from handy dandy clone machine represented by my own hand, and someone enchants it with Hazmat Suit (used), do I lose the game right away or do I just lose 2 life once?

You lose 2 life when it touches you and assuming it keeps touching you, no more life loss.

Token Disappearance Rules

What happens if you enchant a token from handy dandy clone machine with hazmat suit used (and the person with the token doesn't realise you can make the token disappear at any time)?

If your hand has a Hazmat suit on it, don’t touch it with your other hand. The affected hand isn’t touching itself.

What happens if I activate Handy Dandy Clone Machine's ability using Mishra's Toy Factory?

I would say you would have to find a way to have your hand tokens interact with a toy in some flavorful way. Like riding little toy horses.

Is someone acting as a Handy Dandy Clone Machine token, "in the game" for the sake of spells targeting someone "outside of the game"?

Yes. You can’t ask someone who’s actively a hand token to do something required by someone outside of the game.

That would be me. I have high-fived myself. I liked it.

A Unstable rules question for you C: Handy Dandy Clone Machine: Do they have to be technicly "live" human hands? Or does, say, any of my prostetic arms/hands work (or am i left with zero/one hand)? What about "artist hands" ie sculptures used by many artist to help paint hands?

It must be a living hand attached to a human. The one exception is a prosthetic hand if it’s actively in use by the player.
