Psionic Magic Colors

New 30 Oct 2023 Asked by nothingbutland-blog 48 Comments

In general psychic magic falls into Blue color pie...even the breaks Psionic Blast, Psychic Purge, Psychic Allergy, Telepathy, Telekinesis( what a wasted card name) with the occasional shift into Black Psychic Spear, until you hit Pyrokinesis being Red. Cpuld you see psychic magic/powers across all colors?

I could imagine a psionic themed set where we spread it across all five colors. In a vacuum, it’s pretty blue.

Psychic Purge Color Alignment

New 30 Jul 2021 Asked by al-pakabol 39 Comments

Me and my buddy were looking through old cards when we saw Psychic Purge. Looking at it, I dont think it's very blue. Would you say it was a bend or a break, if either?

It wasn’t technically a break when it was created as early Magic let blue do a little direct damage. It’s clearly a break in the modern color pie.

Ra's al Ghul Nature

New 29 Aug 2019 Asked by jaxxisr 59 Comments

I don't see black in Ra's al Ghul. His goal is to preserve the natural order of society, and his method is an indiscriminate purge of wicked cities. Am I missing anything here?

He’s the leader of the League of Assassins.

Blue Psychic Damage

New 11 May 2019 Asked by tbjanowski 31 Comments

Psionic blast, psionic entity, psionic gift, psionic sliver, psychic venom, psychic purge, psychic barrier, psychic allergy, mind bomb, are all examples of blue using psychic for damage. Are any of these still available to blue under current color pir restrictions?

No. Blue no longer gets direct damage in its slice of the color pie. It’s still able to flavor things as psionic if used on an ability blue can do.

Color Hosers Rarity

New 13 Feb 2018 Asked by theroguepyro-blog 27 Comments

Can we still get color hosers, a la Celestial Purge, Deathmark, Combust, Flashfreeze, or Autumn's Veil? Or is that not a thing anymore?

They still can happen but they are infrequent.

Worldpurge Bend Justification

But I love Worldpurge. :(

It’s probably technically more a severe bend than a break.

Worldpurge Color Break

New 10 Aug 2017 Asked by coriell1 34 Comments

On the subject of bounce, does that mean Worldpurge was a bend/break?

It’s a break in White. That card shouldn’t have been white. Having that high an amount of hybrid messed too much with the color pie.

Gold Dragon Query

New 03 Aug 2017 Asked by sinecwid 67 Comments

Can the gold dragon made by sword of D&D be exiled by radiant purge or other cards that care about multicolour.

The gold dragon is monocolored as gold is just one color.

White’s Permanent Removal

New 18 Feb 2017 Asked by deathtouchroadrunner 48 Comments

I always thought white could destroy/exile any kind of permanent given enough mana, color symbols, or other costs/conditions. At the very least it has a lot of effects that are pretty close (Archon of Justice, Mangara of Corondor, Saltblast, Angelic Purge, Karmic Justice, etc.). The flavor's always made sense to me as a high-level judgment that something has gone beyond being safely/effectively imprisoned, particularly if taking care of it requires some self-sacrifice for the sake of society.

White can Oblivion Ring “target permanent” but monowhite isn’t supposed to get “destroy (or exile) target permanent”.

Managing Card Comments

New 21 Feb 2015 Asked by lazcarno 11 Comments

When working with a constantly-changing card file, how do you prevent changes to a card from causing earlier comments on the card to "not make sense?" Do you purge obsolete comments whenever a slot undergoes a major change, or keep some kind of record of what a card USED to look like? Or do you just leave the old comments and let people figure it out?

Comments are dated and get moved to the “retired comments” field when addressed.

Inbox Purge Stance

uhhh, you might want to purge your inbox...

It feels wrong to purge. I like to hope that one day I’ll get to them.

Color Hate Card Strength

New 24 Oct 2014 Asked by goldenpineapples 27 Comments

Why are red and black's "hate cards" historically weaker than say, white's? Is this intentional or simply difficult to reflect mechanically? (Celestial purge vs. combust, glare of heresy vs. peak eruption)

I should introduce you to Perish and Boil. Or Gloom and Red Elemental Blast.

Psychic Purge Opinions

Psychic Purge: Equally irredeemable as hornet sting, better, or worse?

I am much more forgiving of off-color pie cards from Alpha. EDIT: Okay, and Legends.

man, the old legends card Psychic Purge must drive you insane.

It’s not exactly on color pie.

Handling Can't Discard Mechanic

New 26 Feb 2012 Asked by kycygni3 1 Comments

Continuing askingsomequestion's post, are there others like that? Do black's enemies have "can't discard"? The other colors?

“Can’t discard” doesn’t work as cards can’t have continuous abilities in the hand. What we do is have cards that have an effect if you are forced to discard them. Of the nine cards that have this ability all but two are white and green (black’s two enemies) or artifacts. The two remaining cards (Psychic Purge - blue and Guerilla Tactics - red) are both from the first few years of the game.
