Chainsaw Foreshadowing Coincidence

Party Crasher is wielding a Chainsaw. Deliberate foreshadowing, or happy coincidence?

I’ll (seldom) admit to things being a coincidence.

Game Mechanics Ruling

New 24 May 2024 Asked by aalgot 15 Comments

Hi mark
Hypothetical ruling timeLet’s say we have three players, Alice Brittany and Charles.Alice is the monarch and has the initiative, but has no creatures to block with. And Charles has a party crasher. It’s Brittany’s turn, and she is attacking Alice, and so is Charles by using his party crasher.
In this situation, who gets the things.

Basically, the active player gets to order things, so Brittany can arrange it, so she gets the monarch, by stacking the triggered abilities so she gets it last.

Monarch Rules Clarification

New 19 Jan 2024 Asked by aalgot 25 Comments

If I attack the monarch with my creatures and they attack me with their party crasher, and neither of us blocks, then who ends up being the monarch at the end of turn and why?

All the damage happens at the same time, so the Monarch moves from the player that has it to the opponent.

Party Crasher Limitations

New 18 Jan 2024 Asked by aalgot 15 Comments

If my opponent is invited into another game by better than one, can I attack with my party crasher during their combat phase in THAT game? They is my opponent after all.

No, Party Crasher can only attack in the game they’re in.

Party Crasher Rule

If my opponent attacks me with all their creatures and I attack them with my party crasher, is my party crasher attacking alone?

Yes. “Attacking alone” cares about your creatures.

Card Context Appreciation

New 16 Aug 2023 Asked by wind-to-your-sails 36 Comments

I would just like to express great love for the way the cards Stroke of Midnight and Glass Casket provide context for the characters of Ash Party Crasher and Neva Plagued by Nightmares without needing a secondary source like the Meet the Legends articles! Very in favor of this approach going forward!

I’ll pass along the compliment to the creative team.

Silver-Bordered Monarch Rules

New 17 Aug 2019 Asked by lgosvse 37 Comments

Silver-bordered rules question! If I'm in a three-player game, and I control a Party Crasher, and it attacks Player A during Player B's combat step, but Player B is also attacking Player A, and Player A is currently the monarch, then who between me and Player B gets to become the monarch by doing damage to Player A?

The person with the Monarch gets to choose which one gets it if the exchange is at the same time.

Mentor Mechanic Interaction

New 12 Jan 2019 Asked by lathaev-blog 57 Comments

If my opponent attacks with just a Hammer Dropper and I attack during their attack step with Party Crasher, am I correct in assuming that my opponent must put a +1/+1 counter on my party crasher as it is attacking and mentor is neither a may ability nor an ability locked to targeting your own creature?

If Mentor triggers and the only legal target is Party Crasher, Party Crasher gets the +1/+1 counter.

Party Crasher & Exalted

New 06 Sep 2018 Asked by gamma-3 27 Comments

Un rules question: Party Crasher and Exalted. If I attack with my Party Crasher while my opponent is attacking with only one of his own creatures, does Exalted trigger for either of us?

His creature as he controls the Exalted creature and he is only attacking with one creature.

Red's Attack Rules Proposal

New 15 Apr 2018 Asked by dailynator 35 Comments

For trying out some new mechanics for red, what about implementing rules where red creatures can attack on any turn?

You should check out Party Crasher in Unstable. : ) Nowhere close to a thing black border can do.

Party Crasher Mechanics

New 11 Feb 2018 Asked by doneclarks 30 Comments

hi Mark! simple question: why doesn't Party Crasher have vigilance? (that's the goblin that can attack during the opponent's turn). It really wants vigilance. I love Unstable!

We didn’t want it attacking during multiple turns in a multiplayer game. If you want to do that, you have to find a way to give it Vigilance.

Graveyard Attack Mechanics

New 04 Feb 2018 Asked by legendarytravelsized-blog 27 Comments

Do creatures that attack from graveyards with Over My Dead Bodies stay tapped in the graveyard until my next turn? Or do they reset after combat so a dead Party Crasher could attack every turn?

They untap during your untap.

Party Crasher Mechanics

Party Crasher question: I give it vigilance and lifelink, and attack my opponent during her attack step, as she attacks me with a Serra Angel. I block the Angel with my Party Crasher, and she blocks the Crasher with her Angel. Since nobody has first strike, damage is all dealt at once. Does the Party Crasher kill the Serra Angel by dealing damage as an attacker and a blocker and give me six life, or does it die and give me three?

She dies from damage from both combats and you get six life. I assume you also gave it reach. : )

Clocknapper Party Crasher Interaction

Yes. It can attack during anyone’s combat.

Party Crasher Mechanics

New 07 Dec 2017 Asked by otterofslaughter-blog 27 Comments

In regards to the question about Party Crasher, we know WHEN it does damage, the problem is if it's both attacking and blocking, does it deal damage to what it's attacking AND blocking or do you divide it's damage between the things it's hitting

It does its full damage to each creature and takes full damage from each creature. It’s simultaneously fighting.

Combat Damage Rules

New 07 Dec 2017 Asked by mrolp 22 Comments

Party Crasher: how does a creature that's both attacking and blocking assign combat damage? If it isn't blocked, does it have to deal damage to the creature it's blocking before the player? Does it get to deal damage to both?

If it is both blocked as an attacker and blocks as a defender, all damage in combat is done at the same time (save last strike, first strike, double strike and triple strike).

Defending with Armchair

New 19 Nov 2017 Asked by mikstar890 34 Comments

If my opponent attacks me with a Party Crasher during my turn, can i just lazily put Entirely Normal Armchair onto the field, and activate to destroy it?

You have to technically “try to hide it” but essentially yes. The Party Crasher is vulnerable to the Chair.

Armchair and Party Crasher

New 18 Nov 2017 Asked by chewylsb 29 Comments

I don't understand your earlier answer regarding Entirely Normal Arm Chair and Party Crasher. Entirely Normal Arm Chair says I can put it onto the battlefield at any time during my turn, so if party crasher is attacking on my turn I can put it into play and then sacrifice it to kill Party Crasher.

I answered it poorly. Let’s try again. Your opponent attacks you with Party Crasher during your combat. You have an Entirely Normal Armchair in your hand. It’s your turn, so you can hide it on the battlefield. Note if you don’t try to hide it, it’s an illegal play. You then can pay 2 and sacrifice it to destroy Party Crasher. There is no window where your opponent can bounce it so you destroy it. So, assuming you make an attempt to hide the Armchair, there is no way for Party Animal’s controller to stop you. If the Party Animal’s controller figures this out ahead of time (you tried playing the chair earlier and they bounced it), they can always attack with it during their turn like a normal creature.

Hi Mark! If you attack with Party Crasher during your opponent's turn, can they block? I remember reading somewhere that only nonactive player assigns blockers. Thanks!

Yes, if you attack, they can block. The blocker needs to be untapped though.
