Knight of the Kitchen Sink

DFC Variation

New 22 Dec 2023 Asked by strymon 27 Comments

Is it possible to have DFCs outside of Acorn where there the backside can vary - Knight of the Kitchen Sink style? If not possible in cards, how about in tokens? It would be cool to have some of the Morph head games, except with a more interesting front half than a Grey Ogre.

The normal rules can’t do that. A front has to have the same unique back.

Analysis of Unstable Card Division

New 09 Dec 2021 Asked by pontemosca 38 Comments

Hi Maro, continuining with the excercise, Unstable white cards are divided 15/15 between acorn and blackborder cards (counting contraptions and augment/host as blackborder, and considering Knight of the Kitchen Sink as 6 differents cards). Guess this being a newer Unset shows better how you handle them.

Unstable is a much better model than Unglued or Unhinged.

Knight of the Kitchen Rules

How does Knight of the Kitchen Sink work with cards printed before collector’s numbers? Just nothing?

They are unaffected.

Understanding 'Protection from Loose Lips'

New 25 Feb 2020 Asked by minoke5618 38 Comments

One variant of the Knight of the Kitchen Sink has "protection from loose lips" and proceeds to define it. There's also an Aura named Loose Lips, and the guy's mouth is just barely open. Does the protection work due to the name Loose Lips, or the fact that the guy's mouth is barely open in the art?

Technically the latter, but we did check to make sure it did. We would have probably used a different name if it hadn’t.

Unstable Tokens Strategy

New 23 Dec 2019 Asked by ravenknightvincent 34 Comments

Knight of the Kitchen Sink has a version with "protection from black borders". Can I flip the black border Unstable tokens to the full-art side that has no border mid-game?

Yes, but not in response to a border caring effect. Do it earlier.

There are six versions. Which one are you asking about?

Knight's Protection Clarified

New 11 Mar 2018 Asked by oldbezzy 56 Comments

Hi Mark, I'm a new player of Magic The Gathering, my boyfriend introduced me to the game. I really love Unstable and I have a question for you about a mechanic. I was playing The Knight of the Kitchen Sink with protection from even collector numbers, but my opponent had only combined creatures (creatures made by host + augment) on the battlefield. In this case the protection rule applies? And if yes, in which way?Thank you very much!

Add up the collector numbers of the merged cards. If it’s odd, consider it having an odd collector number, if even, then even.

Protection Quirk

New 14 Dec 2017 Asked by piogre 17 Comments

Can the Knight of the Kitchen Sink that has "Protection from loose lips" be enchanted with Loose Lips?

It cannot. Loose Lips has an open mouth in its artwork so it can’t target a Knight of the Kitchen Sink with protection from loose lips.

Grusilda Combat Mechanics

New 09 Dec 2017 Asked by andrewstirlingmacdonald 33 Comments

Unstable ruling needed! I used Grusilda to combine a Knight of the Kitchen Sink (with First Stike) and the version of Garbage Elemental that has Last Strike. So when, in combat, does my new combined creature deal combat damage? Thank you so much for the gift of Unstable. I bought a case!

Both during first strike damage and during last strike damage.

Library Blocking Knight

New 09 Dec 2017 Asked by shm128iii 34 Comments

Question that came up at my Unstable release tonight: Can an animated Library block a Knight of the Kitchen Sink that has Protection from Even Collector Numbers? Is not having a Collector Number the same as having a Collector Number of 0? Likewise, does an animated Library have an actual name, for cards that care about that?

No collector number is neither odd nor even. It is none.

Do the full art sides of the Unstable tokens have no border for cards like Knight of the Kitchen Sink?

Correct.
