Hanna's Fate

The time has come to once again invoke the right (rite?) of birthday trivia! In your original version of the Weatherlight Saga, did Hanna survive? Or was she always doomed?

Hanna survived.

Parent/Child Trivia

New 19 Mar 2023 Asked by dkirzane 37 Comments

It's my son's 9th birthday, and we love playing Magic together! Any parent/child Magic trivia you can offer?

The first patent/child combination to both get legendary cards (where at the time we knew they were parent/child) to the best of my knowledge is Barrin and Hanna. Can anyone think of something earlier?Happy Birthday to your son!

Weatherlight Character Cards

If you could bring one Weatherlight-era character forward in time in order to design more cards for them, which would you choose?

I’d enjoy making more Hanna cards.

Caracter Cards of Characters' Family

RE: The Kenriths. Even then I believe they have other children that haven't received cards. However Teferi, his wife Subira, and his daughter Niambi all have cards.

True. Someone in the notes also pointed out Barrin, Rayne, and Hanna.

Un Rules Question on Artifacts

New 18 May 2022 Asked by mikecarlucci 36 Comments

Hi Mark! Un Rules question: I know Assembled Ensemble is an Un card but how do you determine what is an artifact creature based on the art alone? Does Disenchant from Tempest count? The artificial sliver depicted in the set would imply that. Thanks!

There’s some common sense needed. In the case of Tempest Disenchant, the card show Hanna using Disenchant on a Sliver and the only one it would make sense on is the Metallic Sliver which is an artifact creature. Also, if you check Metallic Sliver, they look the same.

Insights on the Character Rayne

New 20 Feb 2022 Asked by sudodevnull 63 Comments

My birthday is tomorrow. 2+ years ago, my wife was pregnant with our second child. I really wanted a boy and his name would be Ryan, RJ for short, after his father. If it were to be a girl she would be named Rayne, an anagram of Ryan + e as a compromise. Our first daughter is named Lilly. I wanted Liliana, but lost... another compromise. Needless to say, on Oct 6th 2019, my second daughter Rayne was born. I did not know there was a character named Rayne in mtg until 6 months ago when I happened to search the mtg card database. Immediately I bought a NM foil, to hopefully one day pass to my now 2 yr old daughter as a commander for her first edh deck. For my birthday, can you give me some deep knowledge on Rayne. I know you single handedly designed that set. I would love to know more about the character Rayne.

Rayne was a chancellor at the Tolarian Academy. She was wife to Barrin and mother to Hanna. For her card design, I wanted to play up her smarts and her protectiveness, so she draws cards when your stuff is targeted. She is part of a vertical blue cycle of creatures that gets a bonus if enchanted. She’s a very cool character.

Fathers/Daughters Trivia in MTG Lore

Doing a small bend here.Invoking birthday trivia on behalf of my eldest daughter who is 7 days old today! (She missed father's day by so little!)Any trivia on daughters / fathers in MTG lore?

Hanna, of the Weatherlight crew, was Barron’s daughter. He wanted her to be a great wizard, but she instead became an artificer, much to his disappointment. Happy Birthday to your daughter!

Trivia on Barrin or Obliterate

New 07 Aug 2020 Asked by blood-fish-god 49 Comments

Waited a year for this, so invoking birthday trivia! Can I have trivia on either my favorite card, Obliterate, or the character depicted, Barrin?

When we created the Weatherlight Saga characters, we wanted to tie someone to the previous story, The Brothers War. We liked the idea that Hanna grew up at the Tolarian Academy, so we created the character of Barrin to be her father and tied him to Urza. Happy Birthday!

Hanna's Navigator Title

New 26 Feb 2017 Asked by izandai 52 Comments

Hanna's card is Hanna, Ship's Navigator. Sounds like a pilot to me.

The navigator and the pilot are not the same job. Sulu was the pilot of the Enterprise but Checkov was the navigator.

Hanna's Reprint Potential

New 16 Aug 2013 Asked by ancientseabonewitch 20 Comments

What are the chances of Hanna, Ship's Navigator being reprinted (either in a core set of supplemental product) so that we can see the Terese Nielsen DotP version on a paper card?

The best chance would be a supplemental product.
