Cheatyface Game Rule

New 14 Jan 2024 Asked by jack-os-5d 30 Comments

Cheatyface rules question: if i play cheatyface and the game ends while cheatyface is still on the battlefield and i simply leave it there instead of shuffling it into my deck for another game, do i get to start a new game with cheatyface on the battlefield?

No.

Unfinity Collector Requests

New 03 Oct 2022 Asked by jeffsachs 32 Comments

Hey Mark,

I want to thank you for giving Unfinity Collector Boosters a "list" slot. This is going to help me in my dream of making a fully foiled all un-card Commander deck (to get the best use of Super Secret Tech). I would like to request foil printings of: Timmy, Power Gamer; Strategy, Schmategy; Bronze Calendar; Jack-in-the-Mox; Checks and Balances; Common Courtesy; Free-for-All; Cheatyface; and Underdome.

In addition the following are really hard to get a hold of in foil and could use a reprint: Johnny, Combo Player; Who/What/When/Where/Why; Gleemax; Mox Lotus; City of Ass; Super Secret Tech.Thank you for all you've done for silly magic!

You’re welcome. I wish you the best of luck in your mission.

Cheatyface Rule Contingency

New 28 Oct 2021 Asked by silpheed-tandy 32 Comments

suppose my boss is playing a game of Magic close to me, and i'm also playing a (different) game of Magic, and that we're playing on the same table in the coffee-break room. Cheatyface says that i may sneak him onto "the" battlefield (if i got him into my hand legally). am i allowed to sneak Cheatyface onto the battlefield under my boss's control?

No. It has to be your game.

Story for Cheatyface Week

New 13 Sep 2021 Asked by sinkingtime 100 Comments

I guess it's Cheatyface week or something? So let me share my favourite story.I once cast one legally, paid the 3 mana even, to mild confusion from my opponent. Then next turn when i attacked with all 4 of them, the look on his face was glorious!

Thoughts on Cheatyface

New 12 Sep 2021 Asked by aceofmoxes 57 Comments

Do you regret cheatyface?

I wish we’d had a better template to clarify how to use it, but no, it’s brought lots of fun to lots of players, so no regrets.

Cheatyface Card Playability

New 11 Sep 2021 Asked by titania776 23 Comments

As a continuation of the Cheatyface questions. If i place my hand down face up having the first card being Cheatyface and my opponent doesn’t catch it does that count as me sneaking Cheatyface into play? PC love the card!

No, Cheatyface has to leave your hand.

Cheatyface Usage Rules

New 11 Sep 2021 Asked by popcornbunni 35 Comments

What counts as sneaking Cheatyface onto the field? Can he go down under a played land and reveal himself to attack the next turn? Can you put him down then tap UUU, wait 4 seconds, then use the UUU to cast a different spell because you never explicitly said you were using it to cast him?

The first is acceptable, but the second is not. In tournament play, we call it misrepresentation. Remember you have to legally have gotten Cheatyface into your hand to sneak him into the battlefield.

Perspective on Un-Cards in Commander

New 17 Jul 2021 Asked by honor-basquiat 49 Comments

"The Un-sets are a very weird product" Some feedback you might find interesting. I'm a casual Commander player but I'm against silver bordered cards in the format. I would be fine with playing cards like Super-Duper Death Ray or Surgeon Commander but I have no desire to play with cards like Mother of Goons, Frankie Peanuts or Cheatyface. Commander is already complicated and the last thing I want are additional cards that add extreme ambiguity and unsolvable rules questions into the game.

It’s not all or nothing. You can play with the Un-cards you enjoy and not play with ones you don’t. If your group is okay with it, a few Un-cards can be very fun.

Cheatyface Rules

Does Cheatyface have to be snuck in from hand, or can he come from anywhere

You have to legally draw Cheatyface and then you may sneak him onto the battlefield from your hand.

Black-Bordered Cheatyface

New 04 May 2018 Asked by gibsoncat9-blog 25 Comments

I think the asker meant would you ever make a black-bordered creature that could *only* be put into play via cards like Reanimate or Sneak Attack.

No. Cheatyface technology is as silver-bordered as it comes.

Hiding Cards Rule

New 06 Dec 2017 Asked by moone513 25 Comments

Since Ol' Buzzbark doesn't have Just a Second, can't my opponent just hide all their creatures?

You are not allowed to hide your cards. (Okay, other than Cheatyface and Entirely Normal Armchair).

Gatherer Update Info

New 24 Nov 2017 Asked by sartoriusoftheabyss 35 Comments

Just an FYI, the Unstable FAQAWASLFAQPAFTIDAWABIAJTBT says you updated Cheatyface's Oracle text, but on Gatherer it's still exactly the same as the card text.

Unglued and Unhinged are going to get a Gatherer update (for the first time ever) in December. I don’t know the exact date.

Cheatyface Play Tricks

New 18 Nov 2017 Asked by stud-yawgmoth 142 Comments

I don't understand how Cheatyface and the new chair are supposed to work. Is only way to cheat them into play is to put them on the table from your hand right in front of your opponent's eyes, with no trickery, and hope he doesn't see it right away? I can't imagine a scenario in which my opponent wouldn't notice a new permanent appearing on the battlefield. Am I missing something?

It’s called being sneaky. Trust me, there are a lot of ways to do it.

Drafting Cheatyface Rules

New 18 Nov 2017 Asked by ihavenoclue99 36 Comments

If I have a pile of Cheatyface cards and I take them to draft, am I allowed to use them if my opponent doesn't notice immediatly?

That’s not how Cheatyface works. You have to legally draw it before sneaking it into the battlefield.

Silver Border Cheating

New 18 Nov 2017 Asked by darksteelplatypus 49 Comments

"If you’re cheating with silver border cards, you really don’t understand the point of them." With the exception of Cheatyface and Entirely Normal Armchair, I presume.

Correct. : )

Cheatyface Comparison

Do Enterily Normal Armchair follow the exact same unrules as cheatyface?

Essentially. Note that you have to draw Cheatyface legally before you can use his ability.

Normal Armchair Concept

Was “Entirely Normal Armchair” an attempt to “fix” the Cheatyface mechanic?

People like Cheatyface so I made a similar card.

Un-Rules Cards

New 16 Nov 2017 Asked by scentedcherryblossompuppy 62 Comments

I was planning to ask you if you already knew which cards where going to generate the most un-rules questions a-la Cheatyface/R&D's secret lair. But then I saw Rules Lawyer...! Way to create work for yourself! :)

The FAQ is 60 pages and no way I hit everything.

Cheatyface Gameplay

If an effect allows you to legally cast Cheatyface from a zone other than your hand, can you sneak it into play from that zone?

Yes.
