Acidic Slime

Land Destruction Memory

New 13 Apr 2024 Asked by blaze-1013 66 Comments

I just want to say my most miserable game of Magic happened sometime during Return to Ravnica standard. In it my opponent got out an Acidic Slime super early and destroyed a land. They then did it again. And again. I never had more than 3 lands that game. I might not have had more than 2. This would have been over a decade ago and I still remember how unfun it was. I get commander players want tools to control ramp, but making sure people can play is insanely important and should take priority.

Just be happy you weren’t playing when there was a deck built around this card:

Acidic Slime Counterparts

What is more likely to see print, a red counterpart of acidic slime or the black counterpart?(assuming the abilities get modified a little to be in color.

Flavorwise, an acidic slime makes more sense in black than red.

No MLD in Commanders

I would like to request NO Armageddon effects in Commander precons. Many players buy these and play them against each other unaltered, and you risk alienating playgroups like mine who do that and don't want MLD on the table. Acidic Slime in Meren of Clan Nel Toth was already too much.

There are better places for mass land destruction than Commander decks.

Green's Land Interaction

New 18 Jan 2017 Asked by piogre 54 Comments

In modern sets, green seems to usually have land destruction either alongside a land-tutor (such as in Reap and Sow), or as an option alongside artifact/enchantment removal (such as in Acidic Slime) - this definitely feels more flavorfully green than straight land destruction, as it's either destroying some land to make way for new life, or destroying the land as a side-effect of destroying something unnatural.

I agree.

Green's Land Destruction

Is Green now number one in land destruction? Very efficient green land destruction spells like bramblecrush and acidic slime makes me ponder the question.

Green is number two. Red is still number one.

Acidic Slime Classification

Is Acidic Slime a Virtual French Vanilla creature?

Yes, after the first turn it is just a creature with a creature keyword ability, deathtouch.

Did you design Acidic Slime? What are your thoughts on it?

I did not although I was part of the design team. I like it quite a bit. A very flavorful ooze. Also it helps the ooze deck handle some problems.

Missing Ooze Lord

New 06 Aug 2013 Asked by sirlrb 14 Comments

Let me just say how sad I am right now that there was no Ooze lord in RTR block. We were given a one drop in Experiment One, a two drop with Scavenging Ooze, a three drop in Predator Ooze, Slime molding to to fill holes in our curve, and good old Acidic Slime as a five drop. Standard is screaming for an Ooze Lord. WAY TO DROP THE BALL! :P

I’ve already said publicly that I made a mistake not putting an ooze lord in Gatecrash.

Slimes in Other Colors

New 18 Jan 2013 Asked by timebender13 4 Comments

Why don't we see slimes in colors other than green? It seems like it would be a natural fit for something like red, as it is very primal. You could have something like a slime that gets bigger every time it kills something, representing the slime absorbing the fallen foe. You could also have slimes destroy equipment attached to a creature it damages or something, representing their acidic nature. (Not to step on Acidic Slime's "toes")

Both black and red have also had oozes. (All the colors if you count changelings.)

Land Destruction Combo

New 31 Aug 2012 Asked by iiyama88 3 Comments

I was drafting M13 the other day and realised that Roaring Primadox and Acidic Slime make a very nasty combo in M13 that can deprive people of land. So if Wizards generally believe land destruction to be unfun, how did this combo get into a format designed for new players?

We’re not against land destruction existing or evening happening. We just don’t like it cheap and fast such that it never allows a player to play spells.  The combo you’re talking about takes a while to set up and is fragile.

Land Destruction Dilemma

Rather often you say that "Land destruction is unfun, so we weakened it a bit." (paraphrased.) Why then do you keep printing Acidic Slime? A Stone Rain for 1 more mana with an additional target option and a 2/2 deathtouch body seems like its too good, especially with flicker effects running around. It's not uncommon at my LGS to get completely blown out by Acidic Slime+Restoration Angel+Phantasmal Image starting on turn 3 or 4. At least Stone Rain is harder to copy.

One more mana means a lot when we’re talking about land destruction. EDIT: It’s been correctly pointed out that Acidic Slime is two more mana.
