Unfinity Sticker Update

New 14 Apr 2024 Asked by nootnooter34 26 Comments

Hey Mark, i'm not sure if you're the right person to contact, but something's been bugging me for a while now.The Unfinity sticker sheet "Happy Dead Squirrel" was printed with an ability sticker incliding the text "{T}: add {2}" and has the updated oracle text "{T}: add {C}{C}", in line with other cards that previously added generic mana.In contrast, the Unfinity sticker sheet "Unglued Pea-Brained Dinosaur" was likewise printed with an ability sticker incliding the text "{T}: add {2}" but has not received the updated oracle text.Is there some reason for this? I know rule 106.10 makes this irrelevant for gameplay, but I still think it would be nice to have consistency.Kind regards, A concerned player

It’s just an oversight. Both should tap for CC.

Hokey Pokey Variations

New 16 Feb 2020 Asked by maria-human-was-taken 36 Comments

How exactly does one do the Hokey Pokey? The unglued version is different from the unsanctioned version which is different from oracle text.

There are many ways one can do the Hokey Pokey. Any version will work.

Silver-Bordered Trivia

New 08 Feb 2020 Asked by sylvhem 34 Comments

Hello Mark! My birthday was a few days ago, but I’m afraid my question got lost. Can I have some trivia on a silver-bordered card or a product containing silver-bordered cards?

We explored putting bumblegum in Unglued 2 (the set that was never released), but when you add something edible to a product, it adds a whole bunch of new rules that made it undoable for us.Happy Belated Birthday!

Un Products Success

New 06 Feb 2020 Asked by etherosleveque 34 Comments

Happy to see Un products doing well enough to get reprints for the first time, and very excited for Unsanctioned. I first came to Magic well after Unglued, and was happy to get the few packs that I could at the time. Similarly, I was out of the game before Unhinged, and just lucky to be able to pick up some packs that my LGS happened to have. I love the concepts of Un products, and want to see them continue.

Me too. : )

Frame Limitation Impacts

New 05 Feb 2020 Asked by lucas2099 25 Comments

Original Richard Garfiel Phd art got cut, does that have anything to do with the new frame limitations?

It’s because the frames aren’t individually graphically designed as they were in Unglued and Unhinged.

Dice vs Coin Flipping

New 03 Feb 2020 Asked by wholesome-yandere 50 Comments

can you explain why we can’t have die rolling in black border but coin flipping is ok

Richard put coin flipping in Arabian Nights. I put dice rolling in Unglued. If those had been reversed, maybe the opposite would be true. People are more likely to naturally have a coin than a die, I guess.

Unsanctioned Origin Query

Are any of the new Unsanctioned cards originally from Unglued 2?

Nope.

Card Name Box Design

New 29 Jan 2020 Asked by thesoundofdrumming-blog-blog 39 Comments

Is Infernal Spawn of Infernal Spawn of Evil's extra-large name box to accommodate its long name purely for silver border, or is that something you might use if you had reason to in black border as well?

Unglued and Unhinged has all its frames individually designed. That’s not something we’re able to do now.

Red Tutoring Issue

New 27 Dec 2019 Asked by darknessstardw 78 Comments

Me: “Tutor role call!” White: “enlighten tutor” Blue, “mystical tutor” Black, “vampiric, demonic, diabolic tutor, and razaketh’s rite” Green, “worldly tutor” Red, **sits quietly** Uh we have Uh....goblin tutor?” Me: “that’s an unglued card sorry not legal.” Red: **crying internally.** So yeah that’s my question, why doesn’t red have a mono color instant/sorcery tutor spell that searches for a card without a back fire like discard at random, life loss, specific tribe etcetera?

Red’s the color bad at planning ahead.

Removed MTGO Mechanic

New 10 Dec 2019 Asked by anomalocariscanadensis 39 Comments

in "Ask Wizards - May 2007", you said there was a mechanic that you removed from Future Sight because it was too hard to code for MTGO. what was that mechanic, if you can talk about it?

It was based on the Double cards from Unglued. You did an effect now and at the start of the next game with the same opponent in the same match. Magic Online isn’t programmed to connect games in that way.

Un-Commander Singleton Rule

New 03 Dec 2019 Asked by fuckyeahtumblo 35 Comments

Unmmander Rules: does every version of a card with the same name count as a different card? I was thinking about building a Unmmander but getting Unglued/Unhinged cards here where I live is kinda difficult

Un-Commander is still a singleton format, so only one card per name allowed.

Unpopular Cards Insight

New 09 Nov 2019 Asked by mrpopogod 118 Comments

"our research shows players aren’t fond of permanently defacing their Magic cards" - You mean there aren't a lot of Ironman Magic playgroups anymore?

No. Fun story. We did market research on Unglued. I was told that the two most unpopular cards were Blacker Lotus and Chaos Confetti by a large margin. The data people doing the market research said that they cross referenced all the various elements - art, name, flavor text - but couldn’t find any correlative connection between these two cards. I said, “Don’t worry. I got it.”

Commander Achievements List

New 05 Nov 2019 Asked by petruscaex 50 Comments

Mark, have you ever heard of Commander games which use "achievements list"? It's like a system of gaining points when you do certain things, like casting your Commander more than 4 times in a game, saving another player from losing, defeating two oponents with Commander Damage and so on. It's pretty fun!

It’s how the Unglued and Unhinged prerelease tournaments worked. You then got a raffle ticket for every point you earned.

Favorite Un- Cards

What are your favorite Un- cards? (I'm super excited for Unsanctioned, by the way!!)

I have many favorites. Today, I’ll say Squirrel Farm from Unglued.

Unsanctioned Cards Flavor

New 13 Oct 2019 Asked by gus-goose 48 Comments

Are the new card from Unsanctioned flavored from bablovia, somewhere else, or nowhere specific?

The new cards were designed to feel at home in either Unglued, Unhinged, or Unstable.

Reserved List Exemptions

New 11 Oct 2019 Asked by lgosvse 46 Comments

Now that silver-bordered reprints are on the table, I decided to take a look at the Reserved List to see what the possibilities are. i was surprised to see Unglued cards weren't added to the list, despite Unglued being printed at a time when cards were supposed to be added to the Reserved List. Do you know why Unglued was granted immunity? ("I don't know" is an acceptable answer to this question.)

It wasn’t a tournament legal set so we didn’t feel the need to guarantee not to reprint anything.

Unhinged Creation

New 02 Sep 2019 Asked by arcanistlupus 19 Comments

Why was Unhinged built from scratch, rather than using the framework of Unglued 2?

It was many years later and Magic design technology had improved. Also, the Magic brand team had a few requests that affected the design.

Abandoned Projects

New 02 Sep 2019 Asked by thesoundofdrumming-blog-blog 18 Comments

Similar to Unglued 2, are there other sets and products that have gotten abandoned a significant way into development that you can talk about?

Unglued 2 is the product abandoned the farthest into design. We even had art done.

Un-sets Difference

New 02 Sep 2019 Asked by arcanistlupus 26 Comments

You seem to consider Unhinged and Unglued 2 as separate entities. What makes them distinct? Why isn't Unhinged just Unglued 2 revived and renamed?

There is only about a four or five card overlap between Unglued 2 and Unhinged. They are, for all intents and purposes, completely different sets.
