Bestow on Storm Scale

New 21 Jan 2016 Asked by loleverythingisk 20 Comments

Mr. Rosewater! Today's my birthday, I was wondering if there is any trivia for ashen rider, stormbreath dragon, or underworld cerberus. If not them, then how about a bit on bestow and it's storm scale.

Bestow was designed for Born of the Gods but we moved it back to Theros because we needed it to make the design work. I’d put Bestow at 7 on the Storm Scale.

Large Set Dynamics

New 04 Oct 2014 Asked by kvanever 17 Comments

Are large sets designed to be a little spikier than small sets or is that confirmation bias since I'm a spike and there's just more cards period in large sets for all three groups. I'm asking becuase of things like Snapcaster, RTR/GTC charms, KTK charms, Stormbreath Dragon, and Siege Rhino. Large sets seem to have more spiky cards.

Large sets also have more Timmy cards and more Johnny cards. Yes, large sets are larger. : )

Monstrosity and Trample

Regarding monstrosity, trample, and 'safety valves', Stormbreath Dragon and Stoneshock Giant both exist. Your argument is invalid.

Okay, Question Marks, help me out, What is anaivecynic saying?

Birthday Wish and Trivia

Hey Maro, it my good friend Brian Durkee's birthday. He is the spike of our group and an amazing magic player. Would you wish him a happy birthday and give some trivia on one of his favorite cards in Theros, Stormbreath Dragon? Thanks.

A lot of people thought we forced dragons into Theros like we have into other top-down worlds. It turns out Greek mythology did, in fact, have dragons so the Stormbreath Dragon is right at home. Happy Birthday Brian!

Dragon Appeal

I'm not sure I understand the dragon hate. I really enjoy seeing how you twist dragons around each set, especially with things like Stormbreath Dragon which don't look like traditional European dragons and has an ability set that gives him depth. I think violent, angry winged lizards with bad breath have a place in Magic. Lots of people enjoy them, which is why you guys keep making them. c:

Have no fear. A lot of people constantly telling us they like them will trump one guy on my blog informing me people don’t. : )

Red Constructed Pushes

Can you ask a developer for some examples of red cards they've recently tried to push for constructed?

I was told Stormbreath Dragon, Searing Blood, and Ghore-clan Rampager.

Theros Protection Traits

New 24 Oct 2013 Asked by orlouge82 19 Comments

In Theros, Master of Waves gets protection from red, Mistcutter Hydra gets protection from blue, and Stormbreath Dragon gets protection from white. Why weren't there any creatures that get protection from green or black?

Because it wasn’t actually a cycle.

Sam Stoddard's article today on the design and development of Stormbreath Dragon was really great! I'd love to see more articles like that.

I will pass along the info to Sam. I’ve done a few similar columns over the years. My best was the one on Maro: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/mr49
