Living Wall

Walls as Creatures

New 09 Aug 2023 Asked by mrpopogod 42 Comments

"Walls being creatures makes little flavor sense" - With the notable exception of Living Wall (incidentally, one of my favorite pieces of Magic art).

I do agree Living Wall makes sense as a creature.

Living Wall Creative

"I like my creatures mostly sentient or, at bare minimum, alive." So Living Wall is ok? Especially with that amazing Anson Maddocks art?

Living walls are the ones I mind the least creatively.

Starter Deck Memories

New 08 Aug 2015 Asked by skecr8r 18 Comments

My best friend and I managed to convince his mom to stop by a bookstore, where she begrudgingly bought us a starter deck. We were 6 years old and we were equally fascinated and disgusted by Living Wall - which later allowed me to conclude we had a revised starter (it was after Unl. came out). We didnt speak English so we just invented our own rules. My friend went to a GP 2 months ago to play Legacy and we still play together with my cube. This will most likely never change, so thank you Magic.

Living Wall Observation

does it bother you that the best example of a wall as a creature, Living Wall, is itself actually an artifact?

It’s just proof to me that artifacts are more artifact than creature.

Wall Creature Type

New 13 Dec 2014 Asked by yupimmadbro 36 Comments

I just taught a person to play Magic. We are currently opening some new packs together and handed me an Archer's Parapet and asked why "Wall" was a creature type.

Exactly. I’m okay with something like Living Wall, but Wall of Stone - come on!

Walls as Creatures

Players likes Walls. A Wall represented as a creature makes little to no sense. Would the type line "Enchantment Creature - Wall" help solve this issue? It seems like a Wall of Fire is essentially an enchantment that functions like a creature.

My issue is with a wall being a creature. How is a wall a creature? Sure, I’ll buy Living Wall but most walls are inanimate. Creatures should not be inanimate.

Alpha Cards Modern Potential

New 27 Jul 2013 Asked by doopboopdoop 13 Comments

Following cards from alpha are not modern legal and have no reserve list, color pie, complexity or power level concerns, think you could see if any can get fit into a set?: Dwarven Warriors, Hurloon Minotaur, Copper Tablet, Conservator, Burrowing, Celestial Prism, Castle, Animate Artifact, Ironclaw Orcs, Ironroot Treefolk, Lance, Living Wall, Obsianus Golem, Orcish Oriflamme, Pearled Unicorn, Plague Rats, Phantom Monster, Phantasmal Forces, Scavenging Ghoul

Interestingly, most of those cards we’ve made better versions of them.

On Asking Questions

New 28 May 2012 Asked by extremeconsiderationthemovie 0 Comments

is it cool that I ask a million questions a day or do you find it annoying? and is Wall of Denial a wall you are cool with? it seems like a semi living creature that is also a wall who intercepts attacks

I love getting questions, so ask away. The walls I’m happiest with are walls that feel like a living thing (Living Wall) rather than a nonliving object (Stone Wall).

Opinion on Walls

New 27 May 2012 Asked by reddyneddy 12 Comments

It makes me sad to see you hating on walls :(. As someone who was amazed as a child by the 'Living Wall' in his revised deck (and yes like almost everyone we thought it could block all the enemy creatures at once!). I think you can still throw in a wall or two out there, but you have to make it feel like a WALL. Make it like a 0/10 and able to block any number of creatures. Or immune to combat damage (It's so big you cant just smash it with your sword). Also - Legendary Wall anyone? :)

It’s not that I don’t like walls. I just don’t think they make any sense as creatures. Creatures are supposed to be sentient living things. Wall of Stone?  That’s an artifact not a creature. I’m in the minority on this opinion though which is why we still have walls.

Card Attack Rules

New 01 May 2012 Asked by stormofcrows 1 Comments

I've got a silver-bordered rules question, if R&D's Secret Lair is in play, and I control a Avian Changeling and a Living Wall, can the Avian Changeling or the Living Wall attack?

Yes, because R&D Secret Lair will keep defender off the card and the rules now don’t prevent walls from attacking (all walls normally have defender but not in this one case).
