Defender Slotting in Sets

New 11 Aug 2023 Asked by brotein-manganiello 19 Comments

Do defenders/zero power creatures that can deal direct damage like Brimstone Trebuchet, Archer's Parapet, and Vent Sentinel count as creature slots in terms of set skeletons?

Usually, no.

Beast Not Wall

New 15 Jan 2019 Asked by theuninvitedghost 45 Comments

"Because it’s a Beast and not a Wall. Am I missing something?" Battlement - parapet at the top of a wall, especially of a fort or castle, that has regularly spaced squared openings for shooting through. synonyms: castellation, parapet, rampart, balustrade, WALL, bulwark, barbican, bastion;

But the battlement is sitting on a giant beast.
Also, we don’t make creatures with creature type Wall that can naturally attack. (Some can attack as part of an activation or trigger.)

Colored Artifacts Usage

New 15 Aug 2015 Asked by cairnwanderer 11 Comments

If colored artifacts are actually deciduous, could they be used the next time you make a card like "Archer's Parapet"? Please? Surely this is an artifact creature at best.

Calling it “deciduous” is probably wrong as it’s something used so sparingly. It is a tool available but one we have to use very carefully as not to undermine the identity of artifacts.

Wall Creature Type

New 13 Dec 2014 Asked by yupimmadbro 36 Comments

I just taught a person to play Magic. We are currently opening some new packs together and handed me an Archer's Parapet and asked why "Wall" was a creature type.

Exactly. I’m okay with something like Living Wall, but Wall of Stone - come on!

Defenders' Game Impact

New 11 Dec 2014 Asked by onceamormon-blog 20 Comments

Do defenders with abilities that progress the game to end count towards the creature slots? Examples such as Archers' Parapet activating to have opponents lose 1 life. What about a card like Doorkeeper activating to mill X cards?

The issue is are they functions as creatures not if they’re advancing the game. Other card types do that.

Outlast Mechanic Reception

New 20 Sep 2014 Asked by veloxiraptor 28 Comments

Are people coming around about Outlast yet? On its own I could see how it would be perceived to stink, but Abzan has access to all these stall cards like Archer's Parapet and Dazzling Rampart that are so good at buying time for your Outlasters to do their thing.

They’re slowly coming around.
