Reading Options

New 06 Dec 2022 Asked by mangofisher74 46 Comments

Is there anyway we can read the stories that doesn’t involve a phone or computer? I loved both arcs, but as a 40 yo fan reading on my phone is a miserable experience and detracts from the excitement. I would love to have a pdf to print out, or a kindle ebook to buy for a dollar in order to relax and enjoy the story. In short, the long arcs are awesome, but it is definitely more cumbersome for us old people to read it these days!

So an export for an ebook format would work?

Zubera Honden Trivia

New 20 Jan 2019 Asked by panvoid-blog 32 Comments

It’s my birthday today! (The 20th) Can I get some sweet Zubera or Honden trivia?

I believe the Zuberas were made as a Kindle variant that went on creatures and only counted other Zuberas that died the same turn as it did. They were all Spirits, so they played into the large Human vs. Spirit conflict of the story. The card’s were made to play with the soulshift mechanic and things that let you sacrifice creatures.Happy Birthday!

Requesting Kindle Novels

New 31 Aug 2018 Asked by bonesanity-blog 33 Comments

Hi Mark, are you able to either shout down the corridor at the appropriate employee, or provide me with an email address to use in order to get the Masquerades Cycle of MTG novels added to the Kindle store? I'm about 70% through Bloodlines, and I have Rath and Storm to tide me over for now, but time is running out!

I can pass along the request.

Card Rarity Discussion

New 18 Jun 2018 Asked by tmzerozero-blog 23 Comments

Cards that carw about you having mtipke copies of themselves in the deck are probably going to be rare or lower as a baseline right( excluding cases like kindle becoming a set mechanic)

Usually uncommon or lower if it’s at all something to think about in draft.

Pop Culture Mention

Magic reference on page 269 of the kindle edition of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. Magic took the game stores by sudden storm and drove out all the RPG players.

Thanks for filling me in. As always, I love hearing about Magic showing up in pop culture.

Today? Kindle.

Functional Reprint Necessity

New 05 May 2017 Asked by destructible 32 Comments

Why are there so many functional reprints of cards where the original would have fit just fine flavor-wise? E.g. did we need Illusory Wrappings in AKH when Reduce In Stature would have fit just as well? Or Precise Strike for Kindled Fury in AER?

If the flavor was a perfect fit, we would have used it.

Diligent Farmhand Trivia

New 10 Feb 2017 Asked by shukkets 17 Comments

Today is my birthday! Can I get some trivia for my favorite card: Diligent Farmhand?

Diligent Farmhand was designed as a tweak on the Kindle mechanic from Tempest having a card that counts as a “Kindle” without being a “Kindle”.Happy Birthday!

Kindled Fury vs Precise Strike

New 07 Feb 2017 Asked by johnny-spaghetti 26 Comments

"Sometimes the old name is problematic on the new plane." Isn't the name Kindled Fury universal? There's no particular attachment to any particular plane, and it would probably make sense given how Aether Revolt was about the anger of the inventors. Precise Strike just seems like a waste of name space.

Kindled Fury has a very different flavor from Precise Strike and the former didn’t convey creatively what they needed the card to convey.

Functional Reprints Justification

New 07 Feb 2017 Asked by johnny-spaghetti 23 Comments

What is the justification for functional reprints such as Precise Strike (Kindled Fury)? It seems to pointlessly eat up name space.

Sometimes the old name is problematic on the new plane.

Kindle Mechanism Origins

New 11 Sep 2016 Asked by jonesie42 27 Comments

Is the Kindle mechanic referring to the card Kindle or to something in R&D?

The card Kindle and the nana cards like it. It’s not a named mechanic. It’s a nickname.

Mark why didn't you guys make a full "Kindle"-cycle like in Odyssey and Coldsnap? The Burst& pauper lover in me was deeply sadened :(

A set only has so much space.

Kindle in Standard

New 25 Feb 2015 Asked by lizthegoddess 16 Comments

Do you think Kindle is too powerful to be printed in standard? I feel like it's a balanced and fun burn spell.

Not a developer, but I think it’s fair enough for Standard.

Graveyard Count Mechanics

New 28 Dec 2014 Asked by wujo444 26 Comments

Can we see back in standard cards that counts it's copies in graveyard, like Kindle or Rune Snag? I found them very funny to play.

There’s a chance. As the creator of Kindle, I’m a fan of the mechanic.

Favorite Burn Spell Chat

New 23 Jun 2014 Asked by deepwyld 23 Comments

Yesterday was my birthday! Can you share what your favorite burn spell is, or trivia on a burn spell you had a hand in?

My favorite burn solely is Kindle. It came about because I was trying to make a Plague Rat-inspired burn spell. The clever solution was to count how many were in graveyards so that each one got bigger. Happy Birthday!

Kindle Mechanic Future

New 09 Nov 2013 Asked by martele-deactivated20240512 28 Comments

There's an effect that appears in Odyssey, Tempest, and Coldsnap that follows the template 'Do thing x, where x is n plus the number of cards named in all graveyards'. I love this mechanic, but I fear that NWO means that it could never reappear. Is this true? I could see the effect on Pardic Firecat and Diligent Farmhand never reappearing since it's so obtuse, but I really want the main mechanic to come back. (Maybe with flashback on it too for fun interactions)

We refer to the mechanic as Kindle based on the name of the first card to do it. I like Kindle and believe there is a good chance of it returning.
