More Reminder Text on Cards

New 03 Mar 2022 Asked by the-machine-orthodoxy 61 Comments

I play the card Duh! so I might be a little biased, but I think we need more reminder text, especially on powerful creature cards. :)

: )(Duh! destroys creatures with reminder text.)

Duh vs Alexander Clamilton

New 15 May 2020 Asked by olyviarayne 38 Comments

Can Duh destroy Alexander Clamilton? Trying to decide if the italics explaining wordy is considered a reminder text or not since wordy isn't considered a known rule.

It’s definitely reminder text, so yes, Duh will kill him.

Silver Border Rules

New 10 Dec 2019 Asked by blood-fish-god 24 Comments

Silver border rules question: silver border cares about the actual card not oracle. So if I have a card with reminder text on oracle but not on the card, it can’t be targeted with “Duh”, correct?

Correct. When a card is looking for a certain trait on a card, you have to look at what is actually printed on the card.

Duh Trivia Request

My Birthday was last week, but might I request some trivia on Duh?

Duh has my favorite reminder text I’ve ever written: (Reminder text is any italicized text in parentheses that explains rules you already know.)Happy Birthday!

Game Complexity Study

New 07 May 2019 Asked by goblinchef 62 Comments

Hi Maro! I guess a few people already let you know about this, but there has been an interesting game theory research done on Magic, claiming that it is the most complex game out there (duh). An article reporting on it was published today on MIT Technology Review.

I retweeted it on Twitter.

Un-cards and Ability Words

New 11 Oct 2018 Asked by elmdormesdoram 21 Comments

Are there silver bordered cards that specifically care about ability words like landfall or delirium? We have, for example, My first tome that looks at flavor text, Duh that looks at reminder text, and many others that look at the full text box, but I can't remember any about ability words. If there aren't, can we get some in Un-4?

Some Un-cards look at all text which includes ability words and reminder text.

Bands With Others Critique

New 27 Jan 2016 Asked by crypsys-deactivated20190627 24 Comments

I did some reading today. Only three creatures have "bands with other", and one of them is Old Fogey. Otherwise, an uncommon cycle from Legends gives legends "bands with other legends". This is actually a very cool innovation since legends and multicolor cards overlapped entirely at the time, so the land cycle was an interesting way to make two new mechanics (legends and multicolor) more interesting and relevant. Banding's gone, but there's something to be said for the design decisions there.

I consider bands with others to be the worst named mechanic ever made. Duh. Duh. Duh!

Ulamog's Fate Uncertain

New 05 Oct 2015 Asked by serahs-sanctuary 73 Comments

Just because we see Ulamog caught in the aligned hedron network doesn't give the full ending; correct? He can escape, he could be caught, it is a pivotal moment that raises more questions than give answers.

I am surprised how many people see one card (in the first set of two, no less) and are like “Well, I guess that’s done.” Hint: It might not be done yet. For the first time, I’m going to reveal something: Oath of the Gatewatch does have a story. (Duh, duh, duh.) : )

Battle for Zendikar Spoiler

I acknowledge that you aren't allowed to just give out spoilers whenever people ask, because it would ruin all of the fun. On an unrelated note, would you mind showing us a spoiler for Battle for Zendikar?

I would mind. You just have to wait until… tomorrow. (Duh, duh, duh!)

Rules Inquiry: Duh

New 15 Feb 2015 Asked by elazar125 8 Comments

Hey Un-rules manager! If I have a Fireshrieker equipped on a creature that doesn't have reminder text of its own, can that creature be targeted by Duh?

No, the creature has to naturally have reminder text to be a legal target for Duh. Being equipped or enchanted will not affect it.

Scars of Mirrodin was originally going to be New Phyrexia and only in the third set of the block would the audience learn it was the plane of Mirrodin (duh, duh, duh!). Happy Birthday!
